lol.. people actually sig their love for dwarf/human romances. Like it can't be just male/female (or whatever).. it's always the racial pairing fetish that gets brought up. Not that it's just simply a relationship.

Also.. Are you midgets in real life? That would make some sense. Because I don't understand where any of the pride and fanfare comes from otherwise. I assume I'm just talking mostly to other men here.   :)

I'm about six feet tall so I don't really count as a midget. My roommates and I are all engineers so we're basically dwarves (at least the building stuff and drinking ale bits). Plus dwarves are awesome, I don't see anyone else building a fully lit underground highway system.

Yeah, and some women gave me their answer on this.

Something about dwarf/human pairings being cute. I think.

I think it's stupid, and still revolves around a shallow fetish, but at least it's something. I can understand it.

I'm actually planning on romancing Cass with my male dwarf.  Just because the option is there.  The height difference isn't that great, plus I have a thing for tall women/short beardy men pairings but I would hardly call it a fetish, it just feels refreshing.  Real life husbando is a good head taller than me.  But he's big and kinda beardy (at times).

Gonna hold out that extra inch on me, are ya? :P That's okay, that just means I can go down faster ;) They love that.

Dwarves are cool (in fact, I'd like a whole dwarven game), but I'm talking more in the context of romance. And this Inquisition in general. It all feels so forced.

So what gives? You're almost as tall as I am. If you saw Cass in a bar or market, would you suddenly think.. "damn I wish was this stumpy 4 foot bearded dude..I'd walk up right now. It's so ideal. It's the only way I imagine getting it on with her".

Where are you coming from as a typical male, I mean? Honest question.. I really would like to know. :)

Nah, it's nothing like that. If I saw Cass in a bar or a market, chances are I wouldn't do anything at all. Me as a guy, I don't go up to women and try and hit on them at all. They've got enough **** going on in their own lives, they don't need me adding to that.

And plus, Cass might throttle me in the attempt since we're strangers :P

That isn't to say I don't have friends who are women or that I can't make friends. I do and I can. Nor is it to say I have not had girlfriends. I have. I'm fine around women, I just don't see the need to bother them in a bar (which is meant to be relaxing IMO honestly) or when they're out and about. If something happened and we got to talking, sure, that's different. And I'd take it from there. But a bar? Mostly when I hit a bar, I'm there to relax as well myself.

I just happen to think that the Cadash/Cass dynamic works very well. Moreover, since DAO I've been a supporter of Dwarves and can't really imagine playing as other races (I do, but I don't have nearly as much love for the experience as I do for a Dwarf). Hell, my Aeducan went for Morrigan and Leliana as well (though he was also the type of guy who banged a lot of people).

Question, would you say the same thing about a tall guy and a short girl (hell, BW/Cadash -- which is also a good pairing due to the nature of the two characters -- springs to mind in the context of relationships in DA)? Relationships take different forms. Tall men and short women, short men and tall women, fat, thin, black, white, etc. Societal perceptions of what's attractive in the end matter little.

For me, when I say I love a character, I mean just that. I love the character. I'm not going to go out and find a body pillow with their image on it and marry it, nor would I say the people I interact with who share my appreciation of a character would do so.

If they were real, and if I saw them, would I like to get to know them and be friends with them? Sure, because then they'd be real, though as I said I wouldn't try and force the interactions between us. I'd say that's a bit of a natural reaction anyone would have, if they liked/loved a character. We see a little spark of ourselves in characters we enjoy, I believe. That leads us to appreciate them. If you got the chance to truly know them, rather then a set of pixels or a rather disturbing fantasy of how you're "knowing them", wouldn't you do the same?

Don't take the bar/hitting on thing too literally. Just talking about about meeting in general really. :)

I'll give you credit for imagination at least. I don't see how the dwarves fit well at all. People who say so are trying too hard, and just fans of a race, ignoring the story. The game was originally human only and it still shows. One exception is as Carta douchebags, manipulating the Chantry and lyrium trade. A lot of potential there. Otherwise, there's little room for good roleplaying. You have to force everything else.

Well, there is all the constant qunari/human wars here ;)

As for me, Dwarves are more bearable than that. It is funny to see though, lol. My thing is that dwarves and qunari seem so irrelevant to the overall story.

Qunari are worse because they have no background to speak of. No real culture. Nothing. It strictly operates on a fetishistic/physical level. Even the writers can't work much with it, except comments on appearances.

Gaider didn't want to put an actual Qunari in, because the culture is so hated by many fans. But he was iffy on just including the race alone.. he used the word fetish specifically and knew it'd just revolve around that. But something got in the way of those reservations and they did it anyways.

This is the definition of dumbing down though. Even the crappiest RPGs make race selection more meaningful than that.

On that, I agree. I'd argue that the game, despite its desire to make Elves seem important, still ends up being written primarily for a human protagonist.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm actually rather annoyed at how Inquisition handled the Dwarves. Mostly, I'm rewriting everything from the top-down in my universe. Dwarves had the potential to fit rather neatly into the area considering the events going on, but it's squandered in the end.

But in the sense of strictly Cass and Cadash, it's a good dynamic between them. Especially if you're a snarky Dwarf, in which case she'll ask you if all Dwarves are so snarky or if it's just you and Varric.

That's precisely why I enjoy playing Cadash so much ; because he doesn't fit the story. The Inquisitor should have been anyone but him, but tough luck! It's not the noble human, or the dalish elf who screwed up the Elder One's plans but the Carta runt.

It just sounds like more cuteness. Transferred to the main story itself.

I'm not a fan of cute... but that's probably obvious :D

There is something to say for a criminal, rather then a noble or a wanderer or just a merc, saving the world again -- doubly so if you played a Dwarf in Origins, where either way you're considered a criminal.

(Kinda sad a Brosca doesn't joke about that to a Cadash in the letter though).

Really? I wasn't aware that their culture was so despised. I personally find it to be interesting. The Qunari/Qun were the best part of DA2.

It's interesting.. but nothing a lot of people want to live under or enforce. That's a niche market.

There is indeed something ironically delicious about dwarves saving the world of men not one, but twice. I went for that scenario myself as well. It was very satisfying.

Nothing wrong with being a criminal. It's being an irrelevant criminal that sucks.

No one would write a novel this half-assed.

I put it this way earlier.. think I'll try again. throwing it out there.

I like kids. They're imaginative and don't take things as seriously as I do. Sometimes when kids play with toys, it's all very random. They have a pile of batman figures, monster trucks, sci-fi spaceships, and their sister's barbie doll thrown in the mix. And they somehow have fun with all of them, making them interact, and doing random things that batman or barbie don't really do. Or they grab a lego man and make him drive the monster truck. Or whatever. And he crashes into the spaceship and saves the world. And barbie and batman get married. And make lego man the godfather or their baby. Yay!

It's cute. It annoys me though when the same randomness is in adults. And that's all I say. :P
