I hope we are. I really do. But when things are admittedly called a "toybox", it just confirms my example about children earlier. And I will say I am a better fan than that. 

 

You're taking it too personally then. It's a simple term used by fans to denote their own little haven. RPGs serve as escapism, obviously. For some people, to call it a toybox just means "It's where I can craft my own story". Sometimes the basic story isn't enough. Sometimes we're limited by what we can or can't do in-game, and it sucks some of the fun out of it.

 

That's why people like Merela and I call it things like sandbox/toybox. I can only speak for myself (though I would assume Merela's stance is the same, or similar) but it's not that I want a world devoid of the threads that tie it together, nor that I want to have "fun at the setting's expense", but rather that I want to tell the story that works best for me and for my world-state -- MY world-state, as opposed to Bioware's, meaning how I envisioned things working out.

 

Which is impossible in terms of full-on canon, of course. I can never see the world react as I wish it would, whether it lines up with my imagined world or not (for instance, Kirkwall has heavy implications for a Viscount Hawke who was ousted by the Red Templars, yet this is never addressed at all and in fact Kirkwall is not in danger of RT control at all. Of course my Hawke sided with the Mages and was named Viscount in my headcanon, but was still forced to run because of RTs).

 

I would rather see the option to play as a Dwarf available -- even if it's implemented in a half-assed fashion that leaves me criticizing Bioware -- because then no matter what I can still tell the story I wish to tell. Without the options, I'm limited more and more.

 

Even if Bioware screws the pooch, I can still fix it in my own mind.

 

To say nothing of how it helps me grow as a writer.

 

Besides, all of Inquisition was implemented in a half-assed fashion IMO. Calling the race options out seems rather like cherrypicking, y'know?

Yeah, I don't bother on Xone either. Didn't know PC was better though.

 

They only look slightly better so you and I are not missing out on too much.

I find that it's hard to tell unless viewing it on the actual pc. A lot of these pics I showed look a lot better on my actual rig on the tv versus viewing them here on my laptop.

I'd like to see more hair/beard/eyebrow options in future updates or DLC. Outside of shaved, long, mullet, and what appears to be the result of Dorian's barber having an off day there aren't too many options say if you want curly hair.

I could use something less bushy in the mustache and goatee department for the inevitable Bruce Campbell Inquisitor. His look from Xena seems like a good fit for Thedas:
