A little attribution to the original taker of this shot might be nice, yes?
You can find it, and his other work (which is phenomenal) here: https://www.flickr.c...th/15588069073/

Honestly I just don't see Varric x Cassandra.
Just don't get the appeal.
I honestly think that thread was a troll or just something to strike up fun conversation. I doubt they were really serious.
But then again, five minutes on tumblr's tags shows a lot of absurd things people seriously "ship" and are passionate about.

Well, nobody is profiting from it nor is anyone passing it off as their own. It's a picture from a video game, not a primary source on a college paper.

It's the polite thing to do. That's all. Since a lot of good people go out of their way to post attribution, when pictures are posted without it it does indeed often look like the poster is passing it off as their own. What else is there to suggest otherwise? It's good practice to show where you found the picture, to give props to the person who took it or drew it, and to help others find more like it if they want. When it takes but a moment to post a link to where you found something, to not do so or to defend not doing so seems rather ill-mannered and mean. This is meant to be a kind, welcoming and sharing community, yes?

People who want to ship Varric and Cass must come from unhealthy backgrounds. There's bickering couples, and then there's major differences. This is the latter. At best, she's no different than aggressive Hawke with Varric. Which can develop into a respectful rivalry at best. That kind of behavior isn't fun for him. Nor is his conniving little shitty ways fun for Cassandra. And each time in this game, his way of trying to bond with you is being a fellow prisoner or "being out Cass' earshot" or breaking up their fight.

Not really... I've had people take the stupid meme pics I've made of cassandra every now and then. Didn't bother me, because despite what my profile suggests, lol, I don't own Cassandra. I could see if it was actual fan art. Certainly. Or if it was a picture of someone's inquisitor with cass who they passed as their own.
But just cool pics of Cass? Seriously? No. Look at Mr. Gif, lol. Obvious_Shining throws those out daily, never expects credit for it. He's just happy to spread the love for Cass.

You can follow the URL of the picture back to wherever it was taken from, you know? There's your source.
Also, "... it does indeed often look like the poster is passing it off as their own." The f**k? In what way?

The url of Jay's Cass picture does not go to any of the places he has posted it. It was downloaded and uploaded to tinypic. So no, no source.
If people are just taking screenshots of cutscenes, whatever. We all see those same scenes a million times over. What people like Jay do is spend a lot of time and energy in composing, playing with cinematic tools (altering bloom, tonemapping, dof, etc) to get the picture they want. Think of it more like photography. Just because anyone can take a photo of someone riding a bike (http://erickimphotog...et-photography/) doesn't mean that there is no need to bother attributing or giving credit to specific photographers for their specific photos.
I honestly am shocked it's such a big deal. Why is it so important to insist that no credit should be given? Why be so hostile to people who make things? Isn't being kind and thoughtful and welcoming to people in the fandom more important than standing your ground and saying "f*** you I'll take what I like because I can"?
Look at all the people in this thread who post a source link to the images they find. Why is that such a dreadful thing to avoid doing? Is it a matter of pride? You have the right to do whatever you want and no one will tell you otherwise? That's the only thing I can think. It's just about asking that people be considerate and nice to each other. Pretty radical stuff, I know.
Come on guys, just don't be an ass about it, is all. This fandom has always been amazing about sharing and appreciating each other's stuff. It works better for everyone if people share in good faith.

You were the one who made it a big deal by complaining about it.
Not sourcing screenshots isn't some ego-filled hate ****** like you seem to be making it. When I link a picture from DeviantArt or something and I don't cite it, it's not because I totally drew it guys just believe me, it's because it's nothing even remotely resembling an issue. I'm not implicitly claiming credit for it by not hyperlinking back to the original author.
In what way is me not linking sources "being hostile"? What in god's name are you even saying with that statement? Is me not linking back to their page taking away their income and slashing their tires? I don't know where you get off with this guilty-until-proven-innocent sh*t, but you can drop it.

Inquisitor: Finally, a chance to sit back, relax, and drink until I can't feel my face.
Cass(slowly peeking put): What are you doing?
Inq: HOLY ****** MAKER!

Who wouldn't want a highly inaccurate play about the Inquisitor's exploits based off of hearsay from villagers and servants with the plot holes filled in by a terrible bard?Honestly I just don't see Varric x Cassandra.
Just don't get the appeal.
The Inquisitor- Cast as a human, because of "marketing reasons"
Cassandra- Pretty much unchanged from her exaggerated depiction in Dawn of the Seeker. Now with added tragic backstory after Gaylan's death at the Conclave.
Iron Bull: Take the standard stoic Qunari and give him an eyepatch.
Blackwall: Cast as the real Blackwall. Thom Rainer's story is being reserved for another show.
Solas- Think Yoda meets the Mad Hermit from DAO. Can control shrubbery, because hedge mage.
Dorian- A sad, drunken Magister who joins the Inquisition with the hopes of returning to Tevinter a hero. Complains about everything constantly.
Vivienne- Cast as a vain, power-hungry mage, who despite all posturing isn't anywhere near as clever as she thinks she is.
Sera- Cast considerably younger than she actually is, treated as comic relief and the Inquisitor's kid sidekick.
Cole- Ser Not Appearing in this Show (no one noticed him)
Varric- Is pretty much still Varric although he has more shady ties with the Carta.
And then after witnessing the train wreck you can pass judgement on the writer!

That, and they can wear that snazzy helmet... or not look like a waddling penguin or starvation victim. More things here than marketing!

Honestly...it sounds better then what we got...the game is about what I feared it would be...if it was released a year ago.
I had pretty high hopes a year ago. When they had origin stories. edit: apparently.

I do. I'll wait and see and all that, but I don't see much potential for that setting anymore. Past, present, future.. Either boring or borked.
Maybe "boring" isn't the right word for the past. I just don't see the appeal in revisiting old events.. knowing how the galaxy ends up.
