Temple of Dumat with that captured scholar was really cool. But I didn't get that far in the playthrough where I sided with mages, so I don't know what's the deal with this Samson guy. Or is it the same?
Same place , different story.

The lack of Calpernia is one of the reasons i cant do the mage quest anymore, i enjoy fighting the Venatori much more than the red templars.
What rubbed me the wrong way is the unrealistic amount of Venatori on that path. Red templars at least were a big enough force to form an army that didn't just come out of nowhere without anyone in Ferelden noticing.
On top of loghain you've got the Arishok as well , i thought he was an awesome " Villain ", not even sure villain is a good way to describe him though since he had cause for how he acted.
The proper word here would be - antagonist.

I believe there are a bunch of rebel mages among the Venatori but yes it does seem a bit odd.
Venatori are the Cerberus of Dragon Age apparently, getting numbers out of a thin air and stuff.

I wished they had done more with Samson than just make him a one dimensional villain.

Yea, because of that i let him take Isabela a couple of times lol. I wonder how the Arishok would react to the Iron Bull, i dont think he'd like him much.
Yeah, I can see that. "Begone, fool."
So far, the Ben Hassarath seem like the oddball Qunari.. and failures at whatever it is they're supposed to be doing (out of 3 we've seen).

Lol yea, i like the Iron Bull but i wish he was more Arishok and sten like , you know a real Qunari instead of a human with horns.

Agreed , my guess is they thought along the line of " well they knew him from DA 2 so we arent going to flesh him out as much as we do Calpernia".

I think a serious female Ben Hassarath would have been better. Like a Samara.. but maybe a bit more off putting.

Agents and spies aren't known for following rigid rules and sticking to dogma. They're supposed to be independent thinkers and masters of improvisation. They have to be good at bending and breaking rules so that the job gets done. Being Qun-lite is part of the job description for the Ben-Hassrath. It's why you see oil and water when you compare Origins Sten with Iron Bull/Hissrad.

Reminds me of a movie.. called Rush. About an undercover vice cop who becomes an addict (this story has been told many times though).
edit: Actually that, and mix in Randy Quaid from Kingpin.

He didn't seem one dimensional to me. For instance, when approached at the Well of Sorrows, you could hear the real love he had for his men in his voice. It surprised me.

He does? Interesting.
I admit that I haven't seen much of him yet. Only a few moments during some videos on YT.
My next playthrough will conscript the mages, so I'll see more of him then.

The letters in Emprise du Lion and Maddox give more insight into his character. I just felt like those were squandered on him and development would have better served Corypheus.
That's the problem with BioWare stories. We're either getting our asses handed to us, or we're kicking theirs and taking names.

I see more potential Corypheus like villainy not in Corypheus, but in the Inquisition itself. He's just a prelude. And the fact that many will vehemently disagree and relish in how much "good we can do" just proves my point. People love the power. In their hands, it's only a good thing. They are the god the world needs.
We're not quite there yet in how the Envy demon sees it in the Champs of the Just, but it could be.

I fully expect the Inquisition or the next Inquisitor (if there is one) to get drunk off power if the Inquisition doesn't disband.
I want to be that villain

Let me be the blesser of all souls.
