The only loyalty that matters now is the Inquisition.  B)

Which is basically what I tell him afterwards.

Everyone gets mad at Varric for keeping the Hawke hidden, but not Leliana about the HOF. (Leliana is still one of my favorite character.)

Inquisition or not, if one of your closet friend give you away to the "bad" guys, then you would want others to stay away from that "close" friends. If they did something like that to their closet friend, what makes you think they won't do the same to others?

He knows better than to think of her as the "bad guys". She tells him clearly that she meant no harm at the end of DA2... he had his chance to stop the b.s. and go "Wait... Seeker. I know where Hawke is. Sorry." But he decided to be a little turd.

In any case, at least Hawke willingly becomes a part of the Inquisition's efforts (maybe not fully, but it's kind of the same alliance you get with other NPCs).

Maybe Varric was thinking that was a lie just to get Hawke to show up to his own execution, because he did "start"(cough Anders cough) the mage/templar rebellion.  What better way to get a point across then to kill the one who was at the heart of it all.

Besides, whoever Hawke supported would had caused the other side to hold some animosity towards him/her. "Hey! That's the person who slaughter a bunch of our people(mages/templars). He should pay for the crimes he has committed against our people." Cue Conclave breaking out in a fight, because the group Hawke supported would obviously be backing him up.

Varric proved he is a true friend by hiding Hawke , that's the kind of person I'd want around me personally because you know that once you become friends they won't sell you out the first chance they get .
Varric had absolutely no reason to be loyal to the Inquisition up until that point , the organization was still pretty new.

Sounds like you're loyal to Varric over Cass.

That stuff doesn't matter as much when the world is falling apart.

He proved he is not a true friend by not helping the Inquisitor get a valuable ally. Varric has proven himself a liar and you can't trust a liar. I'd kick him out of the organization if I could.

It does to some , besides as he said the Inquisition already had the Inquisitor, a guy capable of closing rifts ( which was the only problem at the time ) so he didn't think Hawke was needed and rightfully so , when he final was ( ie after Corypheus showed up ) he went and got him.

Especially if Hawke was a blood mage, who romanced Anders and was totally fine with the chantry explosion. But then why would they want him as a leader of the Inquisition is beyond me.

That's only because the Maker sent my/your ass to fix this mess.

Generally not a good idea to depend on miracles. ;)

We don't talk about blood mage Hawke anymore.

Not even Hawke does. lol.. He condemns blood magic in this game.

He wasn't really friends with the Inquisitor by that point, they were not much more than acquaintances but he was with Hawke , has been for 10 years, that's what I meant.

As for you wanting to kick him out, your game your call

I'm headcanoning that Hawke being a blood mage was another lie Varric told to make the story more interesting.

I must have imagined him showing all those signs of friendship then.

Unfortunately I can't. He's stuck in the party.

That was not the maker. The Inquisitor touched Corypheus orb and gained to power to close rifts. The Divine shoved you out of the fade to save you. There was no divine intervention whatsoever.

Yea I just find it incredibly weird that people expected Varric to just give up a friend he's known for 10 years for an organization he barely knew.

Because the world is at war, because he's talking to someone who actually is interested in problem solving, who respects Hawke..

It's better to just talk to this person, instead of lying and letting someone hide... doing jack. That solves nothing.

What, every Hawke says that blood magic is bad? lol

My sided with the templars, it was fitting, so I didn't pay it much attention to that phrase.

You must have ,in his eyes his friendship with Hawke >>>>> you , and rightfully so.

There is always he option of never talking to him and pretend he isn't in Skyhold.

Considering if he was friends with my Hawke he'd know my Hawke would want to help, clearly he isn't as good a friend with Hawke either.

No there isn't. He starts one of the main questlines by revealing he is a lying snake by writing Hawke for help.

Yeah, it's the same all around.

If he was a blood mage in DA2, that's probably just another of Varric's lies. To make him more "sexy" and "suave". With Nutella spread on his face.
