Anyone ever wonder what makes Liara such an expert, that she is needed to return to Normandy when EDI takes over EVA's body?

I know its to make room for Garrus in the group but that's just a stupid excuse for it. When there are people far more qualified and knowledgeable about that already on the ship.

It was either Liara or James, I guess they could have made it a choice but it sounds quite stupid to send James back to check on the Normandy.

I also was totally unaware that scene on LotSB was not LI dependent. That was just wrong. It's right in the beginning of the boss fight. Shepard covers Liara while the second one gets covered by debris. If you romanced Miranda or Jacob or Thane, and brought them, they would be laying unconscious while you covered Liara. The writers shouldn't have played favorites there. Since this was Liara's mission she couldn't be knocked unconscious. So the way out of this one would have been to have no one get knocked out, and have Shepard move toward the LI, if any, and if no LI, toward neither. Basically everyone takes cover. The writers blew it. Since I only played this with a Liara LI, I didn't know this.

Quite honestly I think the Asari as a whole should have been written more like Aethyta, Aria, Enyala, Wasea, Vasir, Samara, and those commandos we ran into in ME1. Monogendered should have defaulted to androgyny in behavior with variation. I didn't mind Tevos and Irissa. I would have liked Liara to have been written more consistently and not shoved at everyone. If the perception is there it happened.

A lot of that could have been fixed by designating certain characters as not expendable in ME2: i.e. - Garrus, Tali, Miranda, Samara, Legion (no you cannot sell him to Cerberus), and Mordin. Okay now we've got the Turians, the Quarians, the Krogan, a potentially different Cerberus plot with Miranda instead of having it be about finding her sister, Samara because they wanted to show the monastery. But because everyone could die in 2, their roles were relatively minor.

Part of it was probably favoritism, but I think it was also the fact that the writers wanted to make the boss fight more difficult. However, another way to keep the other squadmate out of the battle would have been locking them out of the Shadow Broker's office. Maybe some mooks could have tried to flank them from behind right before they entered the SB's office, and while the other squadmate was attempting to cover their six, they would get locked out of the office in the process.

I think the third companion should have simply been active for the fight.

Never said I didn't want that myself. In my earlier Adept play-through, I would have loved having Garrus help Liara and I take the SB out. His overload would have been useful to take down the SB's shields, and his Squad Armor Piercing Ammo would have also helped whittle down his armor. But nooo...

Yeah, with Legion/Tali, Mordin, and Miranda we would be covering most of the content in ME3. That would be a good core group to keep alive.

Is that what you've deluded yourself into thinking 'playing favorites' means?

David's talking about people deluding themselves.

Oh, the irony.

My comments must be extraordinarily powerful and dangerous for half a dozen little bees like yourself to come buzzing around every time I make one. Do you all message each other? Is like some sort of defense protocol for you? Your way of defending yourselves against what I say?

To address the issue: The reason why the fight with the Shadow Broker takes place with Liara is incredibly simple. I suppose not for this forum, though. Because it's Liara's mission. Liara's enemy. Liara's fight. 'Favoritism' has nothing to do with it any more Garrus getting dialogue with Saleon is 'favoritism.'

Really. I'm amazed this isn't overwhelmingly obvious.

Looks like Massively called it. Though as I remember, David ranked the Liara/Shepard "cooldown hug" after the fight with the spittle-demon as the best scene in the entire trilogy.

No, David. To people, perception is reality. If the perception that this is playing favorites exists, then it is there. You are the one who is being delusional.

Yes, actually we do have an elaborate communication network set up to inform us all every time you make one of your insightful comments.

The path to enlightenment is a hard one, and we all need to be guided to the true meaning of heroism. Who better than Bobvid to lead us there?

But it is one of the best scenes in the entire trilogy IF you're a Liaramancer.

Nope. Sorry Julia. Reality is reality. All the 'head-canon' in the world won't change plain facts. Such as the fact that LotSB was content written around Liara. Such as the fact that Mass Effect is not a story written around which character is the player's love interest, as you seem to think.

Then it should not force the player character to hug other characters. There should be a dialog option to hug said character or don't hug said character. There should be no "auto hug." Therefore you are wrong.

It wasn't just the entire trilogy...

Hey, you got a Liaramancer on your side, here. Don't push it. I don't think she sucks. I think the others got shafted.

Exactly - it's great for them, but it was an entirely different experience for me that first time when Shepard dove to Liara's rescue and left Tali splayed out on the floor without even checking on her or speaking to her after the fight.

Wow. What a brilliant and eloquent argument.

But no. I'd hate to see a developer terrified of writing including that may include love, affection, friendship, trust, or any other emotion because players might not feel the same way. A terrible and tragic waste of narrative potential.

I'm glad to have characters to Liara moving the plot along whether the player 'likes' it or not. After all, nobody's putting a gun to your head and forcing you to play the game. We wouldn't get content such as well...Lair of the Shadow Broker otherwise.

You're perfectly free to...'head-canon,' as you say, Shepard speaking to Tali afterwards.

FFS, when you can elaborately define your relationship with every other character (right down to telling Thane and Samara to stop whining about their problems) why does Shepard HAVE to feel affection for Liara?

What makes her so special that we can't be allowed to choose how to define our relationship with her?
