Shepard's purpose is to save everyone's ass, even Liara's.

The entire cutscene is implausible. It's the "confrontation conversation" with the boss where the boss gets to explain his motives to the peon protagonist. Just shoot the f***er! Did you go in there to kill him, or to have tea with him? Do you really care about his motives? No. You went in there to kill him. So do it. In before David says "that's not heroic."

Shepard's purpose is to stop the Reapers. That's how he saves everyone's ass. Helping Liara on her little crusade has nothing to do with that. It's a favor at best.

As for the confrontation, it's the first time anyone sees a yahg. Some hesitation at the unkown is not so bad. Beyond that, it's just troperiffic.

The evidence is piled on by you and those like you every day. Every single day.

Post upon post upon post of whining 'Liara got this! Why didn't my love interest get this?' I could probably pull up ten examples posted within the last half hour. Post upon post upon post of accusations of 'favoritism.'

People weren't satisfied with their love interest content. They're powerless. 'Hating' Liara is the only weapon to have to punish BioWare for apparently valuing Liara over whoever they value.

Incredibly childish and ineffective, obviously. But...there you go.

No again incorrect.

Completely correct. You're upset that BioWare didn't give you what you want. You're powerless to do anything about it. This is your response.

Isn't that right?

Of course, there's another big reason as well. As one of the most 'Paragon' characters, and certainly the most mandatory one (perhaps alongside EDI), Liara makes an excellent target for players frustrated that the narrative frowns on 'evil' choices. They 'hate' her as a means to punish BioWare for Renegade choices not panning out the way they wanted them do.

<- Paragon Player (Then again I play renegade too which I suppose makes me one of those evil flip floppers that do all the choices in a game D: )

< - Disliked Liara since ME2

So...yeah what is that ridculous argument supposed to mean?

This is overwhelmingly common human behavior, of course. People do such things all the time, all the time, to 'hurt' people they're otherwise powerless against. Their parents. Their bosses. Their 'friends.' Even society as a whole. It's incredibly obvious and generally very predictable.

What other explanation is there? You don't like that your waifu got so little screentime. Reasonable, but to the extent that you argue about it is, to put it in a way, silly.

No. Because I don't hate Liara, nor have I ever said that.

You see David your problem is your comprehension of the problem. Namely that you don't comprehend, you see something you disagree with then flail and shout that people want to do some nonsense like 'punish BioWare'. None of us really have a solid basis of where you are coming from because you strawman the argument then add in some subtle insult while doing this very same kind of crap about how easily you crushed a non existent argument and how silly everything is

Seriously dude, grow up.

I'm pretty sure shooting him would just, well do nothing. Yahg's are pretty big, and he doesn't seem stupid enough to have his barriers down in a standoff, like Ashley and Carth.

Shooting him may not do much damage, but it does stop the conversation and put Shepard and co on the offensive.

And yet I end up shooting at him anyway. I'm there to kill him. If shooting does nothing, then why the hell is Shepard pointing a gun at him in the first place?

And why is that?

Paragon and Renegade should be removed because they are poorly defined and inconsistently used.

Your argument: " In a spit-second decision where instict and emotion are the only things fast enough to fire, I'm not going to try and save my LI because it isn't easy. Instead I'm going to save this random blue chick I may not even like."

Seems legit.

Should I even bother going into the massive flaws in positioning in that scene? Namely, why is Liara so close she looks like she's about to hug you while the second squadmate is at the appropriate distance such that no single attack would compromise both of you? Or how about the fact that Liara could and should've gone "lol nope" with her biotics, showing off badassery in combat in what's supposed to be her DLC? Congrats on undoing a game's worth of implausible character development Bioware, in the end Liara still needs me to save her ass?

But don't let details get in your way. Liara is perfect and any and all attention given to her is only the right and flawless way of the universe. The rest of us simply don't "get it" right?

Well, you really don't get it. Shepard doesn't try to save the second squadmate because it is impossible.

I didn't know LotSB is about Liara saving Shepards ass. And you're really complaining about the positioning in that scene? Liara stands too close...that's your argument?

But don't let details get in your way, she's obviously Patrick Weekes' and Sylvia Feketekuty's waifu.

You would be suprised how far people will go to save someone they love. When it comes to protecting someone you love you don't think about what is impossible, you do the impossible.

How convenient for you. Ignoring both the mechanics of a split-second decision and the actual timing of the throw. And ironically the angle, since seeing it again I'm not even sure what the other squadmate gets hit with.

And you're really complaining about the positioning in that scene? Liara stands too close...that's your argument?

No, Liara moves too close, behind Shepard, compromising her gun in the process. The other squadmate moves behind as well but being further back and the yahg being so tall their angle may still work. Really, looking at it more carefully the entire movement is stupid. Shepard staring like a brick, gun lowered, Liara the same, the third squadmate looks alert but their gun was lowered as well. Who the hell animated that? The way they came in, evenly spaced, all covering the target was perfect. This is awful. Favoritism aside, they should all be dead after a fuckup like this.

I'm really skeptical about complaints regarding Shep saving Liara. LOTSB was always advertised as Liara-centric. You paid $10 to spend more time with Liara. This is her story. The desk throw is a dramatic contrivance to remove the less relevant squad member and says nothing about anyone's competence or how much they care about the third squad mate.

Centric doesn't mean the other characters are non-existent. In fact, that was one of the biggest complaints about LotSB, that the other squadmates weren't even there.

More to the point, I've got an unconscious person (who may or may not be my love interest) lying on the floor (and if it's Tali, possibly a suit rupture), and instead of checking to make sure they are okay, I have to go hug some crazy blue chick?
