One of the problems I had with the previous bioware titles was the disjoint from what you can do in combat vs how your abilities can react to the environment. If I am playing a mission that requires me to burn something, I shouldn't have to get a torch to do so if my abilities can do the job.

During the demo, I hear around this time there will be a more reactive environment. How far do you think this reactivity extends to?

PS: I am grateful that we are even having something like this. Probably one of the prime things I am looking forward to.

From what i've seen in videos and magazines there is more environment interactivity than before... the character is moving slower when walking in the mud or water (maybe snow too!). From a recent screen we can see some enviromental destruction... maybe it's contextual, but it's a welcome surprise anyway

My hope is that's it's not just enviromental destruction for the sake of crushing things, but actually to enhance the layout so each encounter each playthrough, so that it might play out differently, dependant on what parts of the are gets destroyed. (Blokades, chokepoints, openings, etc.)

well, a gamespot employee, also a fervent battle field 4 player, told me that everything, from building to mountain to flat ground, in the pew pew pew game is...susceptible to volatile forces.

as DAI uses the same engine, you might be able to do the same.

This is a good point. One of my favourite aspects of Jagged Alliance 2 is how differently combat plays out if I decide to change my approach. In large part, that is supported by the destructible enviornments. Instead of using a fireteam and clearing out an enemy base room by room, I could simply bombard them with mortar shells from the other side of the map.

Don't know if this counts but some areas previously closed off can be opened.

I dont remember where exactly but I think at the PAX 30 min demo . One area they showed was in the desert map where an area was filled with deadly gas and you could send your agents to clear it making it accesible. Another example was saving or failing to save the town in crestwood(?). If you failed the town is lost for ever.

I wonder if you were to use the stonefist spell there'd be a crack in the ground, or if after someone breaks out of da2 style petrify there'll be rubble on the ground?
