Although they might not be, their situation is certainly...Hairy.

I think shaved is more striking than a short hair cut, and Vivienne seems the sort who'd always go for a striking option.

Besides, when you have a face like that, why would you distract from it with glorious curls?
Or maybe she is just too practical for Orlesian hair fashion. Too smart to shove birds in her hair.

Haha, probably. Even for trivial things, she seems smart, ![]()
One of my Hawke's had a buzz cut. I head canoned him as some sort of mage monk. Looks like I'll probably make a buzzed inquisitor as well. ![]()
I love how I know that's from the Fenris romance (probably rivalry but I haven't played the friendship mance enough to be sure) immediately. XD
Vivianne is the 2nd bald BW character to turn me on.
I'm very disappointed by Viv's hair. I mean, for someone so fashionably conscious, she should have her hair be more elegant and fashionable. I mean, when we hear of the most ostentatious noblewomen of Orlais with hairstyles huge and intricate enough to hold birds inside of them, and if Viv is supposed to be representative of such females, why don't they go far and beyond with her hairstyle? And don't feed me that hat nonsense since there are many short and beautiful hairstyles for females that can be worn with a hat.
Personally, I feel like they gave her a buzzcut because, one, Bioware is sorely lacking in knowledge about black women hairstyles and went with the most stereotypical one they could get away with, and two, they know they have crappy textures for their hair (which is why I believe they made Varric's hair darker than its supposed to be so that they could hide it more easily as well as having several bald companions) so they went with the cheapest route possible to avoid giving her hair. In fact, I really think it's all due to the second reason that they gave Viv such an unfitting hairstyle (haircut, really), since we've yet to see a character with light or long/flowing hair.
You need to look more into black woman fashion then. There is an easy answer to why she has a buzz cut....It's call a wig. Most black woman hair is a weave or a wig. Natural black african hair is hard to grow long and a mess to keep straight.
It's really too early for me to say how I feel about the character designs. I haven't seen enough to be sure. I am a little worried the elves look too much like DA2 elves. In DAO, Dalish Elf was my canon. Yet, if the elves continue to look like DA2...I...just...can't...I love the dalish...But...NO! Just NO!!! And bald on top of that??? NO!!!
The short do is pretty prevalent in some African tribes. Maybe not the buzz cut, but some women have it pretty short. I think it's cool - gives Vivienne a nice tribal accent.

This was going to be something I was going to bring up in an in-universe point; wigs are a big part of the fashion among Orlesian nobility. I won't be surprised if Viv sports her fair share of them throughout the game.
I'll need to make a bald quizzy for the first playthrought. Purely for the lulz.

Yeah, I didn't want to get into the whole weaves and perm discussion since I was mainly talking about what hairstyles she could have and not the process of how to get them. I mean, Isabela is technically black and they never went into any details about her hair, so why do that for Vivienne? All I'm saying is that Bioware could've come up with a myriad of hairstyles for the first black African looking character, especially for one in a country heavily based in fashion, yet they defaulted to something very simple, cheap, and stereotypical. Overall, I'm not terribly mad at the situation, but like I've said, it does irk me a bit.
I like the elf and vivi, but I was always fond of how qunaris hair looked (particularly stens braids) a bunch of prideful warrior guys letting their hair grow out for vanity but making sure to carefully manage it so it doesn't get in the way? I dunno, I like it and want Iron Bull to have hair.

1.Isabela is more indian than African.
2. Isabela is clearly not into high fashion or changing her look alot.
3.If you look in to the 1700's you'll see how popular wigs can be for nobles.
4. Vivienne has to have a new hair style with ease with wigs.

When I saw she was confirmed bald, my first thought was that I love that for so many reasons, and my second was that this was probably going to open up the black hair debate. The obvious solution is if DAI contains other black ladies rocking their natural hair in various styles, which I hope will happen. Vivienne has very clear design reasons for her baldness, but hopefully her lack of hair will be made up for by some other characters.
i am blad so i don't care. but being blad and have no beard is a no
There is part of me that is wondering if these characters are all actually bald or if they're just bald because they haven't modeled their in game hair yet. Like how ME3's Ash was hairless in some alpha stuff while they fiddled with her hair mesh.

Please stop with reasonable suggestions. They interfere with ridiculous speculation. Or just having fun in threads like this. ![]()
I think Vivienne is definitely bald, because Gaider has posted her concept art on tumblr praising it, and she had the buzz cut in it. She and Iron Bull aren't void of hair, you can see the "stubble" of their buzz cut there. If any of them aren't really bald, it's probably Solas, because his head is totally without any stubble texture or anything. I would like it if he ended up having hair. He did in the concept art. I'm not holding out too much hope, though, or I'll be disappointed. He's the only one I really don't like the baldness on.

You just...gave me hope they might add hair (mohawk?
) on Solas...

Or the style he (I assume it's him) has in that art with the map.

Et tu, Brutus Bioware?
I just….I can’t…..I feel so very betrayed. How could they do this? Why have they killed us? I support their games, support their rpgs and now they plunge a dagger into my spine!
Baldvienne, Baldy the elf…Everywhere I turn I see Big ole Bad Baldies. How can one form an Inquisition around conspirators, miscreants and evil? Baldvienne may even have to be neutralized if I cannot control her anti-mage machinations. I would not be surprised as to find out that she’s actually made out of lies. I mean, physically composed of deception, deviousness and duplicitous ambition further enhanced by the inherent immorality of her crude baldness. And that’s why she dresses like that… To hide her lies! Solas will blind the party with his scalp should we enter combat, if he’s not too busy selling us to his buddies in Tevinter. He might just have an 'accident' if he finds himself lacking of healing talents.
Bioware, you were supposed to be the rogaine in our medicine cabinets, not the bald sister that tears apart our ‘fros when we sleep!!
I WON’T FORGET THIS! DO YOU HEAR ME, BIOWARE?!? YOUR BALD LIES CANNOT STOP ME!
I WILL FIGHT TO THE LAST HAIRED MAN!
