Okay, but Tevinter has other problems. To me it sounds very much like an... oppressed country. Oppressed by mages, that is.

No, I agree, it does have other problems. Major problems. Just not necessarily related directly to the original point. Kind of like how templars having a rapefest in Kirkwall isn't necessarily inherently related to non-mages being in control of mages as a stand alone point.

Well, okay then, agree to disagree?

it's culture thing in Tevinter people are taught mages rules, they are allowed to be total dictators about everything and people live to serve them and if you want to go up ladder and become a ruling class you have to know bloodmagic and be a total a-hole.

doesn't mean there aren't good people in Tevinter, they just don't get to rule for very long because of the Stalin kind of mages that doesn't want changes in their empire.

Having one of the biggest circles in Thedas in a place where the veil is very thin as hell and in a city and former prison was a recipe for disaster to begin with.

Again multiple problems with this situation Meredith (getting crazier as time goes on), Orsino (hiding a bloodmage murder), Anders (I don't need to explain this one) and then there is the revered mother (she didn't step in when she needed too, she should have had Meredith and Orsino sit down with her there and work out a solution).

I don't really disagree with what you're saying here.

Yup, apparently it's the whole staple of their economy. Tevinter is so united in keeping it that they'd assassinate an archon who tried to abolish it.

That could be considered a point in the favor of normal people.

At least they can create countries that won't collapse on themselves if you abolish slavery.

Well, you don't have to be magic to get caught up in that downward spiral. We've seen that in our own world history.

It's funny.... I've been thinking a lot about possible new solutions to the mage-rpoblem, but I never come any further than something like the Circle.

But, to get on-topic:
There's no doubt in my mind we'll see Adrian in DA:I. That is, if she hasn't died in the war already.

I'm glad you feel that way! I'm pretty optimistic about it, or even so much as just hearing about her.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

NORMAL people never had slavery, and they CERTAINLY never went to war to prevent its abolishment.

Everyone knows Ancient Egypt, The Roman Empire, Medieval Europe, The Confederacy and various sex trafficking rings in the modern day have all been run by wizards.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Where did anyone say that normal people never create slave-based systems?

I would be pleased to see Adrian in DAI. But if we are going to meet a Libertarian leader, Fiona would please me even more. She has so many ties to not only Asunder characters and the Mages-Templars conflict, but also to the Wardens and the Theirins...

As someone else mentioned, I wouldn't be shocked if she usurped Fiona by now, or at least tried

The better question would be where people got the ridiculous notion that mages would somehow be incapable of creating any other kind of system.

If non-mages make slave-based systems, and we know that they do, then discriminating against mages on that score is absurdity of the highest level.

I actually wonder how rare magic is in the Tevinter Imperium... It might be more common, at least due to their preservation of mage families...

I'm sure it's far more common than it is in other regions.
(I couldn't lump all of my replies into one because I'm on mobile and it's annoying)

Hmmm... I wonder if she or Fiona could make an appearance in The Masked Empire... Perhaps her attempted usurpation of Fiona's station could take place then~

Making examples of IRL countries is irrelevant to DA. Thedas isn't our world.
So far we saw normal countries not based on slavery, but we didn't sede a magocracy country without slavery. Dalish and Chasind are clans/tribes, and In Rivain (other than we know too little to judge it), mages have power, but they're not the only one to hold it, so it woudn't be a real magocracy. We don't have an example of a magocracy country not based on slavery.
I wouldn't say that a magocracy country has to run on a slavery system, but that's just theory.

Oh, there have been more ridiculous notions. For instance, equality between normals and mages.

Well technically Orlais have slaves (or rather the upper class does), they are just not called slaves.

No, but logic is logic in every world.

One of the fan theories if I remember correctly is that Fiona is Alistairs mother.

Never the less I could see some tension between Adrian and Fiona if they are going to compete about being top dog.of the libertarians.

By the point isn't that normals aren't capable of creating slave-based systems. It's that we have no proof mages can create a magocracy country without slavery. Which we have no proof of.

Technically, they don't. Practically, you could make a case they do.

And the country wouldn't collapse on itself if the elves were to suddenly all die.

MisterJB isn't saying that normals can't create slave-based countries. It's that some of the normal countries aren't based on slavery.
Plus, it doesn't seem to me Orlais would collapse without it.

The Dales didn't have slaves at according to DA lore and it was ruled by mages.

Then maybe take a look at Loghain's Ferelden.
