By the point isn't that normals aren't capable of creating slave-based systems. It's that we have no proof mages can create a magocracy country without slavery. Which we have no proof of.

A worthless point, when you only know of one "magocracy country" to begin with.

The Dales didn't have slaves at according to DA lore and it was ruled by mages.

We know too little of the Dales and Arlathan to know if mages were the some rulers.

Then maybe take a look at Loghain's Ferelden.

Sigh. I never stated people i Thedas can't support or create country with slavery. I said that he shouldn't have posted example of IRL. And I already suggested that normals in Thedas can create slave based countries.
And no, Ferelden wasn't a country based on slavery with Loghain, becuase slaves weren't used in Ferelden. Loghain supported slavery by selling elves in Tevinter.

But you said that we shouldn't use real countries as examples (despite the fact that Dragon Age is made for a real audience, and examining it through the lens of contemporary society is perfectly valid). Mort's point is that there are examples of societies based on slavery that exist within Thedas for comparison.

Loghain needed slavery to keep Ferelden running, or at least so he claims. So Ferelden's economy was very much based on slavery, for however brief a time.

Not my fault if Bioware made only one current magocracy country and don't give enough info about the possible others.
And beside, I already said I don't think a magocracy country wouldn't necessarily end with a slavery system. I said that we have no proof it'd not happen.

MisterJB isn't saying that normals can't create slave-based countries. It's that some of the normal countries aren't based on slavery.
Plus, it doesn't seem to me Orlais would collapse without it.

true, but Orlais have proven just as cruel as Tevinter in some aspects. The only reason why Tevinter need slaves is because the leading upper class mages need sacrificial lambs which are their slave because they use Blood magic most likely to control some of the population and battle the Quanari which they still are at war with.

If their slaves disappeared well the upper class mages would lose a lot of their power and the people would turn against them because the cruelty the people had to endure for thousands of years. In theory Mages could make a country without slaves, but in order for that to happen well Blood magic has to be made illegal.

Ferelden's economy required the slave trade at that point in the story. That they were shipping instead of using is pretty irrelevant to the point. The point before was that Tevinter couldn't establish an economy without slaves. Well, neither could Loghain.

No, Loghain needed slavery to keep Ferelden running. His complete incompetence left him with no other option.

Ferelden needed money for the army. They didn't need slaves to support their whole economy. And Tevinter is in need of slaves for their economy regardless of the situation. Ferelden was on the verge of destruction.
But assuming you're right, it doesn't change the fact that Ferelden create a slave-free system before and after the fifth Blight, as Nevarra and the Free Marchers cities, and Antiva. Magocracies have none confirmed so far.

The Dalish gives us a clue how the Dales ruled, Mages are the "leaders" that take care of the major decisions and guide their people. while people (elves) with knowledge take care of some of the minor stuff like burials and such.

Well, not really. Slaves are needed becuase they whole economy is based on slaves.
But yes, i theory mages can create a slave-free state. We haven't see one so far though.
I'm not saying that normals states are necessarily good though.

No, the point was that normals can create a slave-free state withotj collapsing. Loghain's situation proves that one country needed sell people to survive (in a particular situation). It doesn't change the fact that many normal countries aren't like that.

But it is your fault if you extrapolate ridiculous arguments from that one example.

The dalish prove how the dalish clan system works. There's reason why mages are i charge, since they're the most suited in finding and preserving the elven lost lore. There's nothing that could confirm that the Dales were the same, though it is Indeed implied that elven stated were ruled by mage. My point is that we don't know enough about them.

I didn't estrapolate anything. I stated plently of times I don't believe magocracy would necessarily end with slavery. I stated we have no proof, and we don't. If you want to continue PM me.
Back on Adrian, I doubt she'll be in DAI.

Um well, considering the topic is about her, it makes sense if people talk about her lol but alright. Sort of like how you only dump on vivienne in her thread, same thing.

So, question: should I just drop my self-imposed taboo about referring explicitly to the gory deaths I would deal out to the characters other people like?

Oh, please do. Perhaps you could start with Morrigan, my fav! You could watch her and her mother try to eat each other. They both have big mouths anyway-

Just kidding though, I would want to hear Adrian's side of the story, and more of her history.

Sure. I don't approve of her methods (or her stance, since I'm neutral and I prefer moderates) and actions, but i think she was a well-written character.
I don't know how my character would deal with her (expecially because he woudn't have my knowledge o her actions). I'll probably try to support other mages leaders to rise in power.

only if she doesn't get a crappy appearance like Kai Leng (I'm talking about personality and motives and all that, not her looks).

I'm really on the fence if she'll show up, I imagine we'll finally get to meet Fiona, and if we do, I expect to see Adrian with her.

She would at least be marginally useful then.

She already was useful for rebellion.
