You just seem so unhappy with BioWare in general and haven't seemed to express any real excitement over the upcoming game.  I've seen you express a lot cynicism and discontent based on previous games, and I'm not giving you a hard time for that.  You seem so down all the time and have admitted to going into threads just to troll them. <slight glare>

Do you have anything positive to say about the thread topic?

Me a cynic?  Perish the thought....

I can provide you with a response I gave totally not David7204 from a bit back

Or I can say, article looks interesting but I am going to take any statement about endings or characters with a whole shaker full of salt

Please do so.  I'd like to hear some positive thoughts you have about the upcoming game for once.

I have no idea who David7204 was/is.  I'll assume that's Bob judging from some of the reactions that posters have given him.

I think BioWare is moving in the right direction from DA2 and maybe even ME3.  They seem to realize that their last entry in the DA universe was not popular, at all, and they seem to want to win back the audience, and they seem to be avoiding some of the stickier points from ME3's debacle (though that ending quote is still slightly facepalm inducing, to quote a friend of mine "they have got some cheek to say that")

Bob from Accounting formerly David_7204 formerly David7204 was a user who managed to unite Dragon Age threads against him, I'll let that sink in

I'm skeptical. I remember the marketing and hype of ME3.

that and there's already elements I'm not fond of at all:

"Presumbly as a result [of the Fade tearing open throughout Thedas], you're also endowed with a singular ability: you can close these rifts wherever they appear throughout the continent."

So, we are super-special snowflake and the only one who can close veil tears?

On Party Banter: "One other addition you can look forward to is more dynamic party banter...For the first time, you as the player-character are able to chime in as well."

But Hawke chimed in on party banter a few times in DA2. Example:

  • Merrill: I think Hawke likes you, Isabela.
  • Isabela: You think so, do you?
  • Merrill: S/he looks at you all the time, and then s/he looks embarrassed and pretends s/he's busy with something else.
  • Hawke: I can hear you, you know.
  • Merrill: (Giggles) See?
  • Isabela: Hmm. I'll have to think about that...

Most of the time when you're playing an RPG, you're a super special whatsit that can solve all the problems and collect all the deeproots and kill all the things. That's the job of being Lady or Dude McProtag. Being special and super. And also a bit of a snowflake. Otherwise, what's the point of playing if you're Lameass McAverage pants that really can't solve problems and tends to only screw it up and drink beer?

Is there any other reasonable explanation for why anyone would ever trust a random person (/elf/dwarf/qunari) with the entire fate of Thedas though? The Inquisitor has to be a special snowflake, otherwise literally nobody would listen to us.

At the very least, the Inquisitor having a special sekrit power means we have to be consulted by other characters who have actual power, and that's as good a starting point as any to growing the organisation ourselves.

If the Inquisitor was a nobody who was really good at killing things, nobody would ever let us run a massive organisation. Or if they did, it'd be as an underling to someone with power and experience, like Cassandra or Leliana.

I can imagine it allll now.

Cassandra: Hey, you, yeah you...the surface dwarf whose job it is to clean out the chamberpots every morning. You're going to lead this organization. And everyone in Thedas will respect you. Because of your history of cleaning chamberpots. By the way, I hope you know the right way to hold a sword. You're going to need it.

Dwarf McProtag: Um. Sure.

Darrah clarified the 40 endings phrase (and I think it was more try magazines that misunderstood what they meant), though it seems still pretty ambitious.

However, I think it's now based directly on player input. Like 'Press X to chime in while Varric is making fun of Cassandra' or something similar.

I don't know if this question's been asked already, but has anyone else noticed the OXM leak mentioned "Morrigan...is likely to return as a party member again as well"? Anyone think this will actually happen?

Yes.  It is now possible to pick a dialogue response based on the banter (when applicable), as opposed to the Inquisitor simply stating a line automatically.

They've already ruled that out in other interviews, it looks like a mistake by OXM.

Wait, did I get that right? Multiple dialogue options? In party banter?

Mr. Schumacher, this better not be your idea for an April Fools' joke! Otherwise I'll be pretty sad.

From what I've read from the preview in the French magazine , it sounded like the banter in the ME3 citadel DLC.

You can take sides during banters , I assume by clicking on the companion you agree with , or not do anything and remain neutral.

I noticed it and summarily dismissed it. OXM's track record is flawed at best and GameStar claimed directly otherwise.

Just got my copy, here's a few point's.

The whole Kokari wild's thing was actually OXM's doing, they ( the devs) didn't actually mention a specific level, what they said was that the levels on average are 3 times bigger than the largest levels in the series.

Stealth and Taunt have been revamped, mages can heal but they can't spam healing spells.

We can target individual body parts that allows us to wound or disable our opponents, targeting a dragon's wing or wings will ground it, rogues can cause deep gashes the example they gave was a rogue attacks a dragon's leg which leaves deep gashes causing it to hobble, falter or stumble.

The demonstration they saw was on medium settings which could be how it looks on the 360 though that's their speculation.

We will be going to cities, it was mentioned that we'll be going the capitals of Orlais and Neverra, so Val Royeaux which was most likely where the party was in the trailer, and Nevrra city, Cummberland which was mentioned a few times in the series which isn't the capital just very large and is one of thebiggest cities in Thedas.

We can learn more about the lore by exploring the areas itself rather than getting a ton of dialogue, by exploring the Emerald Graves we can learn more about the elves history and humanities role in their oppression. So exploring will pay off quite a bit since according to the article they want to tell stories through the settings themselves.

Environments include forests, jungles, wind swept plains, desserts, a marsh, massive fortresses, palaces, in addition to the ones talked about before, bogs, mountain ranges.

We presumably gain the ability to close the rifts from the tear.

Each race has a vailid reason for being the inquisitor, and not everyone will trust us, these aren't from this article but I saw a few people talking about it.

Not a chance. What BioWare considers different endings doesn't match up with what the rest of human society considers different endings...

I think you mean "every game company that promotes different endings." Star Ocean 2 advertised 128 different endings: they actually meant short epilogue scenes. TW2 advertised 32 endings (lawl). For ME3 it was actually IGN that said 16 distinct endings, not BioWare, but the point remains to not be very concerned with pre-release statements like this.

I would rather BW said something like, "we made sure not to skimp on ending material." This could cover ending variety as well as just making sure the ending is reviewed and not rushed.

Edit: Outdated now since Mike clarified, but still.

We've already seen a similar element in action with the closing DigiExpo footage as the Inquisitor approaches a minor NPC and a dialogue wheel pops up at the bottom of the screen. You can continue wandering around the Keep and auto a "farewell" if you choose not to even manually choose a dialogue option with the guard in question.

Translating such a clockwork system into party banter, while awesome, is not remotely unbelievable after seeing that.

Nice to hear, especially about Sera and the endings. So now we have 2 warriors, 2 mages and a rogue. Wonder who the 3rd warrior will be.

By two warriors are you referring to Cassandra and the Iron Bull? If so the third warrior appears to be the bearded Grey Warden companion. He isn't officially confirmed yet, but he appears in plenty of concept art and at least one gameplay vid. Short of official confirmation, he is about as close to a guaranteed companion as you can get.

That being said we don't know for sure that the Iron Bull is a warrior yet. That would be my assumption, but it is also quite possible that they could give him a rogue spec.
