I look forward to Nevarra, but I'm still of a mind we won't see many cities at all, so I'm in my limited knowledge wondering where they'll stick a Veil Tear up there.
I'd be fine with Cumberland and Val Rouyeaux.

For instance, I would like to know a retroactive count of endings for DA:O using the same logic. Or DA2, for that matter. Did DA2 have sixteen endings because of a combination of choosing Mage/Templar, your siblings state of existence and if you had an LI or not (and who that was)? Or would DA2 be considered just 2 endings (a tepid 2 ending status for Mage/Templar) by this same metric we are saying DA:I will have forty?

Bioware is promising a staggering 40 possible endings for the game, dependent not only on choices made in character generation but by actions taken throughout the storyline. [Mark] Darrah stresses, however, that the endings will all be meaningfully different from one another. You won't find 40 endings with only slight degrees of variation between them."
This will be quoted endlessly by grumpy people after the game, with lots of silly arguments over what is "meaningful" and what is "slight".

Truer words, bro, truer words.
The forums are going to be impossible after the game comes out. I always prefer the speculation part of the forum experience, not so much the endless ranting portion that's sure to come.

Only if all of the endings are grimdark for the sake of grimdark and shoddily put together.
Bad written endings are ruthlessly scrutinized. Well written ones less so.

Because everyone knows there is an objective, global standard for "well-written" endings that all forum goers acknowledge and adhere to.

People won't really be upset by the ending so long as there is at least one good ending were if you did everything right and put a lot of effort in the trilogy, you can get the best possible outcome were everyone is safe and Thedas is not royaly screwed.

So kill every crazy powerful person and annihilate the demons?

Dragon Age is not a trilogy, at least not yet. And Thedas already exists in a constant state of being royally screwed, I doubt anything will change that. The next threat will always be looming.

There's probably not going to be a "happily ever after" style ending, if they plan on making more games. There will probably still be plenty of issues in the world.

I agree with the sentiment of this, at least. I think if there's at least one or two really, really satisfying endings, people won't start the doomsday, 'bioware is over' talk all over again.

Hmm, I'm now very curious to see what the pre-order bonus(es) will be now that they've confirmed there'll be no companion DLC.

While "argumentum ad populum" is a poor way to argue a point, it is a good way to predict behavior of the masses. If the majority of people think it's well-written, then there is less of a chance of people complaining that it is bad.

as long as they follow the rules they established for their world and how it works, then I'm okay. If they have to whip out a last second thing that denies those rules at least have it make sense, it's when it doesn't that i pretty much go "NOPE, I'm out"

Upgrade to the Signature Edition Inquisition and receive exclusive access to the Leliana Hair Color Creation Kit.
She's a bard of Orlais, a Hand of the Divine, a Hero of Ferelden and a heck of a fashionista. Leliana is coming to town, and she is positively enthralled with the opportunity to spruce up the scalps for an entire army. With the Leliana Hair Color Creation Kit, you won't just be able to stylize Cassandra's practical cut, you'll even be able to grow hair where you never thought possible. Solas the pigtailed? Iron Bull the Rastafarian? The possibilities are endless when this spunky chick is behind the chair wheel.

Probably armor and weapons. Or some sort of starting bonus for your strongholds. If they're not doing DLC companions I can't see then doing DLC quests (like Warden's Keep) either.

No Day One companion DLC probably means Bioware will get more of my money. Damn. My principled stance against Day one purchases was a nice saver
While "argumentum ad populum" is a poor way to argue a point, it is a good way to predict behavior of the masses. If the majority of people think it's well-written, then there is less of a chance of people complaining that it is bad.
But it doesn't take very many people to cause regular arguments on the message board. Just a few people who feel misled, and the help of a troll or two. If most people are inclined to jump to Bioware's defence, that'll just extend the threads.
The subjectiveness of the "promise" means that they'll inevitably not meet expectations for some people. Unless they really knock it out of the park with some sort of totally unparallelled awesomeness, anyway.
