I tried unsuccessfully replaying DAII a few days ago and one thing that I had forgotten is how much I disliked the looks of some companions, especially Isabela and Fenris. I guess this can be fixed using mods for pc, but not for consoles, not with official tools anyway.

For those of you who haven't played SWTOR, in that game, every companion gets around 5 alternate versions so that the player can choose the way they look. I find it an excelent idea and I barely have any companions in that game with the default look.

I don't see why the same thing can't be used in Inquisition. It can be an interesting feature for people who like doing multiple playthroughs as well.

I know DA:II had this in some way with the family members changing based on the character creator options, which means bioware is not totally opposed to it. I propose giving the control directly to the player and extending it to every companion.

I disagree we shouldn't have option to change character appearance. After I read how people hate Solas because he is bald   All faith in humanity destroyed.

And I ma one of those people who liked we can't change companions armour but apparently I am only one "I am your leader Aveline and Isabella exchange armour."

I hope at least Bianca will be locked for Varric and we can't change his weapon.

IIRC, we can change their armor and armor appearance can be set to something so that you can still keep a look that you like and put on a piece of armor with better stats but a look you don't like, so I guess that could do the trick for you :)

In an ideal world I would like my companions to change there looks on how much time has gone bye instead of me forcing that change on them

I wouldn't want to change their physical appearance. I'd prefer it if some of our choices were reflected in how they dress or some of the armour choices available to them like in DA2 when they're romanced. Perhaps the inquisitor siding with mages gives a companion access to a more mage styled armour or if the inquisitor aids some soldiers over defending their keep they get a different choice to the other way around. I believe we have more access to companion equipment this time around and so you wouldn't have to use it, but it's there.

You can change their appearance with a mod ... see mod threads, though, as to whether we'll have them for DAI (answer: hazy, at least initially).  ;)

They will be no longer limited to iconic outfits/armor anymore, though. That they've said.

I usually don't use them because by the time you get access I've already got used to their default look, but they kind of make sense in SW:tOR because they can alleviate the oddity that there are loads of people running around with the same companion.

But that doesn't apply in DA:I, so I don't really think they make sense.  Also, the customisations that change skin colour would have some awkward political overtones, as well as potentially not making much sense within the world.

If it stuck to hairstyles - together with the already established ability to change clothing - it might work, though it'd still be a touch odd for the player to be telling people how to wear their hair.

I think the only reason they did the alternative look for SWTOR was because it was an MMO, there are a lot more people and with a need to have a unique look for the game.  And they add that feature to have give the feel that you are playing your own unique world.  However, with Dragon Age it is a separate thing, it's a solo play.  Sure you can do armor and clothing, but skins and hair no.

I can see that they added that to swtor because it's an MMO, what I don't see is how it would harm solo playing. The only problem I see is with the implementation. I can agree it gets a bit weird to have a companion looking one way only to change it after you recruit him. But maybe other ways can be found, I didn't say it had to be a carbon copy of swtor.

To me, the more I can customize and differenciate each playthrough, the better

The only visual changes to companions that I'm okay with are logical ones. Such as armor upgrades, and potentially aging (if the game takes place on a long time frame like DA2). I am not okay with allowing the Inquisitor to decide what color or style of hair their companions should wear, for example. That's their decision to make.

I actually don't mind this idea. Having something like the ability to change hair color/length, eye color, that kind of superficial stuff without modding would be cool.

I actually like the route Inqusition are taking, every companion looks unique but theyr uniform can be influenced.

I think this was fine in swtor so that everyone wouldn't be running around with companions who looked exactly the same. DA:I, no, pretty much goes against everything they seem to want for companions' appearances.

Well... you have to admit Solas looks kinda... random.  As if made by clicking "random choice" on the charakter-creator... as if not much effort was put into creating his appearance - lacking personal style... something that made him unique.

And that has nothing to do with being bald. Minsc was bald and he's one of my favorite Characters ever.

I was more ok with SWTOR doing it because it was an MMO, but other than that we shouldn't be allow to customize our companions like that

Since, as I recall, we are supposed to be going to be able to change the 'colour scheme' of the Inquisitor/trix (in terms of the clothing and armour) I think it would be good if the Inquisition's colours matched that scheme, so the troops and banners matched the colours of the leader... even a particularly indecisive one ;)

I don't think this would be very appealing for technical reasons if nothing else. In SWtOR the graphics are more simple and the players and companions are not custom modeled, they are made with the CC which is a set number of faces where you can change the skintone, tattoos, complexion, etc...but it's still the same face that hundreds of NPCs and companions have. As much as I would love to see a bunch of videos of white Viviennes and hairy Solas (/sarcasm) you'd end up with either very bad looking companion customizations, much less detailed and thought out than the originals (since they wouldn't be custom modeled) or a sizeable money sink for custom modeling 3-5 times the number of unique companions than the original number.

I disagree that you should be able to change their appearance

HOWEVER I really love that they're bringing back the ability to change companions clothing. The biggest thing that bothered me in DA2 about Fenris (other than his attitude and annoying voice) was that he was ALWAYS wearing weird battle armor with spikey fingertips :3
