I know there's a trend on BSN to celebrate those people who play aggressively and complete matches quickly, but I'm not convinced that's the best playstyle. I'm sure it's fun for you to finish quickly (especially when soloing) but what about your teammates, they might not be having fun and it could effectively leave a sour taste in their mouth.

I prefer to begin with a slow grind and give a chance for my teammates to warm up. As we start to work in unison there's a chance to pick up the pace and become more vigorous. There are several good signs if the team is working together.

1. The person on top between rounds keeps changing; which implies the scores are close on the scoreboard.

2. You start to synergize with a team mate, you both fit together nicely.

3. When the circle hack begins everyone rushes to it to come together.

4. On waves 8 and 9 everyone starts shooting their missiles loads like a pro.

The ultimate good sign is asking at the end wherever everyone enjoyed it or not. If everyone is satisfied at the end, I consider job done.

What's your playstyle?

re: #1 -- I rarely check the scoreboard during play

Otherwise my pug strategy is mainly to try and kill as quickly and efficiently as possible (I'm such an average player that I rarely dominate and kill hyper fast).  A few other rules I follow:

-- try and stick close to at least one other teammate

-- reviving teammates is a priority

-- joining the hack circle/escort is a priority

-- if not disarming the objective, try to engage enemies away from it.

Game synergy, when it happens, provides the best experience.  But, lots of pug lobbies are just revive fests -- lots less fun.

My playstyle is to stomp face.

I try to synergize.

But mostly I just vaporize.

Some want me to apologize

They just need to recognize

Cloven hoof and pointed horn

Is the Lord Darkness not my form?

Every wolf suffers fleas.   'Tis easy enough to scratch!

And we all know who will win the match.

Ideally I like to see as few points as possible between first and last place at the end of the match - it means everyone is pulling their weight.

If I can't keep up with the top-scorer (if that's not me) that's not really their problem - and of course, if anyone can't keep up with me, that's not really my problem. The game is not really hard enough on U/U/G (my preferred setting) to require well co-ordinated teamwork, just run around whilst keeping an eye on what people are doing and take the opportunities offered.

For example, dropped into a full tech-based team, game-in-progress yesterday when I was using a Fury. So much Throw to detonate Tech Bursts or Fire Explosions everywhere.

Conservative.

I often trail on the leader board until later waves when the rambos start going down. I often end up top when they've rage quit  :D

I play pretty aggressively and follow the golden rule 'kiting is for scrubs', be it solo or team game.

My playstyle involves excessive rage-gelling, and rage-nuking geth primes and geth, in general.

As for the four points you brought up,

1. I couldn't care less about score. If I am playing with someone I know to be an excellent player, I use the score to see if I am pulling my weight. A sub-20 pug gold game is a great game IMO.

2. I try to detonate and set-up combos for team mates. If someone switches to biotic/tech depending on majority of the team's loadouts, I'd say thats a pretty good synergy.

3. Probably one of the better examples of team-play, but one that is rarely seen in pugs. Sometimes it happens and makes the objective go smoothly.

4. Spawn-nuking in team games annoys me to an extent. If you have to spawn-nuke to make the game smooth and quick, that is not an effective team imo. If ppl are nuking for the sake of score, it's a horrible team.

So. much. innuendo.

On a serious note, score margin isn't a good indicator of skills or teamwork. And, as far as I'm concerned, spawn-nuking is never a point towards team play or synergy.

I love it when the team can clear waves very fast, regardless of how many kills I managed to score myself. If I see that there's a very good fast player who carries the team, I will switch to some support class and help him instead of playing on my own.

Reasonably aggressive with quite a lot of rage-gelling involved, I also prefer to use no missiles.

#1 - Basically never happens.

#2 - Rarely occurs. It's nice when it happens but isn't really necessary at all.

#3 - That's pretty common in my experience, barring the occassional score padding scub.

#4 - That normally happens only on wave 11 in my recent experience. I'd rather nobody ever used their missiles unless it's to save a teammate from a sync kill or irretrievable situation.

Don't know why people are bashing spawn nuking?  If I've got a rocket to spare and see a large enough spawn, I'll go or it (of course,  not if objectives or after objectives are completed).  Most sub-20 games I've been in have involved nuking a few spawns.

I see merit in helping a teammate finish off quickly but it would be nice if they could return the favor.

Find the biggest, most threatening enemy on the map, and kill it.  It's sad, but my general approach is actually less sophisticated than ME3's enemy AI.  I just go into "big game hunter" mode.

When I'm not derping out and doing the above, I tend to find the team-mate I have the most synergy with, and work with them on depleting the spawn budget.

It's not generally a problem but it can throw the spawn in a bad location and potentially "pinch" a teammate between two groups of enemies. I try to nuke to speed along waves or deplete budgets at times but avoid it on wave 11.

Unless it's Geth, those robotic sonuvabitches have to die no matter the cost. **** the team, **** extraction, someone's getting a cobra in the ****** flashlight.

re: #1 -- I rarely check the scoreboard during play

I never check the score during a match unless I'm in Spectator Mode, which I admit happens more than it should.  I've said it before - I couldn't care less about score, though I do like to get as many medals as I think should be possible with whichever kit I'm playing

My playstyle tends to be cautious, unless I'm a Krogan (Krentinel in particular), Fury, Batguard, BatSol, Valkyrie, or maybe a few others, but even with them I'm not aggressive in a TMB or cato kind of way.

Other than #1 I agree completely about the kind of things that make for a good match.  (Not that I disagree with #1, it's just not something I'm aware of.)

I had a very enjoyable game on Hydra with Clips7/Blackgas7 last night, where I deliberately avoided him as much as possible as I was playing a GE and he was an Ex-Cerb Vanguard, but we worked together on objective waves, which is slightly more than can be said for the host, who topped the scoreboard but spent a lot of time not doing hacks, though I was happy to excuse him on the basis that he was a Krolord who needed to get his Rage going.  Not that his wave 11 spawn-missiles helped with that, but whatever.  Extraction is what matters, preferably with a full squad.
