If I remember correctly The Calling would just help you understand about the Architect , Loghain not liking the wardens , and well Marric's private life.

Not much to do with Asunder , there's just Fiona ...you'd get her background story.

She doesn't have a huge role in Asunder anyway.

If you really don't want to read the book , you can read a short version on the DA wiki and go ahead and read Asunder.

Expect that Fiona is the Grand Enchanter, I agree with the fact her role wasn't that big (expect formally stating that Mages should rebel in front of the templars, seekers, the chantry, and Lambert) but her job is.

No, he didn't. Both Fiona's child and Alistair were born on the same year.

Well in the book and before Maric and the Wardens go to the Deep Roads, Maric says that they need to go to Redcliff to make a personal stop. Granted it takes 9 months to conceive a child (I think not sure about elven biology) so unless it was at the start of the year and it went on to the end of the year, maybe. Says Alistair was born on 9:10 doesn't give the month.

Edit: Okay, I just reread the Wolrd of Thedas book, and in the timeline on the bottom and it does say that Alistair was born in 9:10, however, it does say that Maric did meet the Wardens and stop the Architect until 9:14. That's four years, which means there is a third son of Maric, and Alistair isn't Fiona's son. Proof right there.

Edit the edit: Aparently the book has errors, go figure.

The 9:14 date for The Calling in TWOT is incorrect. Per the errata for that book released on the official Bioware blog

Page 141: There are rumors in some circles of an intelligent darkspawn known as the Architect, who attempted to unearth and kill the remaining Old Gods and taint the entire surface world. Though the timeline says 9:14 Dragon, most reliable sources state these events actually occurred in 9:10 Dragon.

The Calling and Alistair's DOB are both 9:10 Dragon.

Well on that case I undo my edit.

Umm Feynriel has decidedly elven features. No there is no pointy ears but he does have the slight build and small features of half elves. There is nothing slight or small about his features.

They used a human male model for him, what are you talking about?

No I said he didn't have pointed ears or anything. The lore says half elves have slight builds and slight features.

http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Elf

The exact part is in the notes:

The children of elves and humans are "human" by all appearances and are generally referred to as "Elf-blooded". They may be referred to as "half-elf" in a slanderous fashion. Children of elves and dwarves are dwarven to all appearances, and such offspring are extremely rare. This is due to a number of reasons. a) the small number of dwarves in Thedas, the elves are reclusive in mating with other races as their offspring would not be an elf c) mating between different species does not easily produce children d) the fertility rate of dwarves is very small.

Bah, i hate the copy feature here, everything I copy looks awful lol.

But they were visible? When I first saw him ingame his facial features looked elven to me, I instantly noticed that.

Feynriel looks like a human in every way to me, except that his face is hella narrow. Mostly in the jaw.

(Ignore the text on the image).

Every time I think of Feynriel, I think of his hideous, eyebrow-less girlfriend. "My maidenhood, blah..."  :P

So...The World of Thedas. Worth a read?

Yes, his narrow face is kind of what we are referring to-slight features.  I guess we could say feminine possibly but that isn't accurate.  He looks like an elf, especially a DAO elf.

I think The Calling is definitely worth a read. I think its the best of Gaiders books.

But I don't think it has lickity split to do with anything in DAI so you can go right ahead to Asunder.

While a great book, The Calling won't have much of anything to do with Inquisition. The only thing I could think of is letting you get a better grasp of Fiona.

The Calling was my least favorite of the books.

I'd still say you should read Stolen Throne, that's the best one.
