I wouldn't use possible female NPCs has proof of anything...we haven't played the game yet. There could be more males NPCs than females ones for all we know.

The trick is influential and dominate female NPCs. So far we have... what... Gascard for the dudes?

Is this hooded dagger wielding person (in the left upper corner), the same as this one:

All i really got the reference from is the hood and that it's a rogue lol, but it's something. It may just be the inquisitor though.

If it really ends up being a 6:3 male to female ratio...I will be sad.

Ooo, could you explain why you're doubting the Grey Warden as a companion? I don't think I've seen anyone on the forum with this view, and I'd love to hear why.  :D

Why do you doubt the GW is a companion?

I missed this earlier.

It would be more accurate to say that I don't believe he's a permanent companion. I expect he will be a Ser Jory, another male warrior who showed up in a bunch of early screenshots. The writers even came on the forums and chatted to us about his personality and background because they did such things back then.

Either we've already seen concept art or hints of those last two OR BioWare has managed to keep them completely secret.

Until BioWare explicitly states otherwise, I will continue to hope/believe that Cullen will be a DAI companion.

As to the other options that have been discussed, I have all the books but haven't read them yet, so meh to any book character, (considering a large portion of the player-base may not know who these characters are either). Especially one who is mentally a child, as stated by D.G.  :o  I really find it hard to believe that there are people who want a romance with such a character.  I've discovered through these forums that there seem to be those who would want to romance a rock or something equally ridiculous, so.....whatever floats your boat, I guess.

If they do include book characters as companions, I hope they take the time to really explain their backstory in the game, and not just assume players know who they are. If they make such assumptions (I'm looking at you, Kai Leng), it could really make those characters seem shallow and one-dimensional to players who are not in the know.

Definitely the Inquisitor in the art. I assume it is in the screenies.

It is entirely possible, Origins had a 6:3 male to female ratio as well (not counting the DLC character).

I know, I should read them all! So far, the only DA book I have made it through is The Stolen Throne. There were so many characters I wanted to slap, that I just wasn't in a hurry to read any of the other books. :P  I did read The Silent Grove comic , and I plan to read the books too. Maybe sometime this summer when I am less busy.

I'm hoping for a duel wielding rogue there has been one in the two previous games I would be disappointed if the only rogues we get are archers.

We do not know what the game plot is about, nor the NPCs that will dominate it. We only know that Leliana, Morrigan and Flemeth appears in the game, but they could have like 2 minutes of dialogs total for all we know.

We could just change the weapon set for them, no biggie :)

I think The Stolen Throne is alright, The Calling is a notch or two above alright, and Asunder is genuinely good.

Should your response to TST somehow follow my trend, you ought to find The Calling OK and Asunder reasonably decent, haha.

I thought the Calling was terrible. Asunder was very good, though.

Haven't read Stolen Throne yet; haven't seen anything about it that would make me think I'd like it, either.

Honestly, Cole makes for a better plot device than a companion.  And since we were told by DG that we were getting someone from Asunder back and that there are only a couple slots left, I think Adrian makes a good choice for the fem/mage slot.  Warrior is most likely the Bearded Warden.  I am really hoping for a fem dwarf rogue as Sigrun was my fave character from Awakening.   :D

What about the possibility of companions leaving and being swapped out? After all, in Origins, Alistair can be replaced by Loghain, and in DA2, you can have either Bethany OR Carver depending on your starting choice. So it may be the case that while there are 9 slots for companions, we might actually have something like 10 characters to choose from.

That feels like a waste of resources. If we got 10 companions to choose from ( i don't think so though), but we can only use 9 of them....that don't make sense imo... why put some serious resources and time on something perhaps alot of people won't see? But if it is what you say, then i hope we get to "choose" somewhere at the beginning hours of the game like the Carver/Bethany situation, so that we don't get the Loghain thing again :/ (waaaay late)

I work it out at 4:3. It's only 6:3 if you include dog who is, well, a dog and Loghain who is mutually exclusive with Alistair

Then they 'wasted' resources in DA2 by forcing the player to choose between Bethany and Carver. It's not exactly unprecedented for them to create companions that the player will not be able to use in different playthroughs. Likewise in Mass Effect, you could recruit Morinth or Samara, and you could kill off Kaiden or Ashley in the first game, yet Bioware still included both as companions in the third game, even though in any given playthrough the player would never interact with one of them.

In fact, having one companion slot open to two different characters has happened in so many Bioware games I would genuinely be surprised if no such option happens in Inquisition.

Also, didn't the writers list 10 different foods the companions compared to?  When I made a list of my speculations, I had one extra because I was assuming 9 companions.  Has that been addressed before?  I haven't been able to read all the companion speculation threads so I'm not sure.

Everyone was mentally a child at one point. You don't think characters can grow?
