Given what we saw with DA2, it's likely we'll have a 5:4 gender ratio

I really don't feel like using past experience to state what's "likely" works very well, especially in cases with things that are only entering their third installment.

What if some of the characters revealed are actually Bethany + Carver`ish?

At the beginning you can save Vivienne from something, for example, or someone else instead. Leaving the other to die. The game could have several of those. No way of knowing untill the game is out.

Aye, no way of knowing. I do feel like it's doubtful that we'd see more than one instance maximum because it's a hell of a thing developing all those variables, but never say absolutely never.

You always look at the past to look a trends, but trends can very well be red herring, hence the "likely" and not "surely".

I'm convinced that the "9" companions is no coincidence, that it's too spot on to not be a deliberate even split between the classes, like the core team of DA2 was.

JUst personal speculation, but I'm convinced they'll go the DA2 route insted of DAO's route.

Yeah, I'll give you that choosing the number nine lends credence to the notion, certainly. I have kind of a basic rule-of-thumb with how much weight I put into stuff when it comes to the third installment of a given franchise is all: if the first and second diverged dramatically on an issue, I hold zero strength to the basis that the third will follow either trend. I don't begin formulating theories with strong links to trend until the fourth in such cases.

It probably sounds exceptionally specific, but I can definitely think of quite a few cases over the years in which it's proven justified.

But again, nine companions could well insinuate what you say, aye.

So, do they announce who the next follower will be today or next Friday? It's either the last Friday or the first Friday of the month, right? I'm confused.

I don't think there will be an announcement until the third Friday of next month, followed by the information on the fourth.

So in that case...

Vivienne, Solas, Moustache Man for mages.

Iron Bull, Warden, Cassandra for warriors.

Varric, Sera, and Unknown (Cole?  Please?) as rogues.

And that would make a 6:3 split for male:female ratio, which is rather unbalanced in that regard.  I also think the devs are probably laughing at all of our guessing.  We're probably all entirely wrong.

I will note this:  If the Moustache Mage is Rhys, it is more likely we will get Cole than if he is Dorian.

I do like the idea of the possibility of there being ten or eleven total companions, and we lose one after we start the game up, depending either on our Inquisitor's class or our chosen allegiances.  It would also lend to replay value--you'll try something different so that you can get that other character next time.

Why do people want to choose between characters? :S it sucked in ME1 and imo it will suck just as bad in DA:I lol, i get the reactivity part, but i would not like it from a personal stand point, but all to their own. For the last rogue part why not a female and "fix" the male/female ratio? ;) (like you said).

Wouldn`t Cole or Rhys be....wierd? I mean if you killed Wynne in your playthrough, the Asunder would have happened alot more different. I am not even sure Rhys would have survived if Wynne hadn`t been apart of that book.

I didn't like it in DA2 or ME, but it makes sense in the Inquisition, and it would have made sense in DA2 if it had involved taking sides instead of "which sibling do you want to lose based on your character's class?"  If I'm an apostate sympathizing mage, for instance, I might not want Cullen on my team.

I like having to choose who lives or dies between two companions and I wish it happened more than once in the Mass Effect games, but I'm weird like that.

Or it could just any character. I would rather keep both Kaidan and Ashley and killed Liara instead. If possible, they would allow you to choose who to kill instead of specific couple.

Cole would be strange, regardless--but I like him because of the whole spirit/abomination/demon dichotomy.  Whoever heard of a compassionate demon?  But there's nothing strange about Rhys.  Of course I never killed Wynne, but I got the impression that even if you did, the spirit that protected her would have brought her to life again, hence the novel.  (Could you kill Wynne?  I do not remember that.  It's been far too long since I beat DA:O.  I'm replaying it, slowly...)

But, without any images of Cole other than a possible screenshot that is more likely to actually be the Inquisitor, I suspect that 8 and 9 will be Cullen and Mr. Moustache (who will probably be Dorian, not Rhys--Rhys had black hair, this guy has brown).  That will leave us with just 2 rogues, unless Iron Bull is actually a rogue--which some people have argued, but I remember there being dual-wielding warriors in DA:O.

I guess that'd be cool but I would prefer it be a tougher decision for me than just picking my least favorite companion.

You could kill Wynne in the Circle Tower, and later during the sacred ashes quest. If you defiled the ashes.

Ok, a fine point. In ME1 it was between two party members which of one of them you probably wanted to shag, and the differnce wasen't that big in either game after that. So if it's on a more political plan like i think you mean, then perhaps it's a better idea then i imagined at first. Time will tell i guess :)

I would like to choose between two characters if it means one of my favorite concepts gets in when they wouldn't otherwise and I wouldn't like it if I have to choose between two of my favorite concepts, because I'm totally not a hypocrite.

Ooh! Do you have a link handy? Must see!

I know this has already been confirmed as not happening by David Gaider, but I'm kinda wishing Maevaris was one of the remaining companions. She'd scratch my Tevinter magister itch and kicks some serious ass.

Sorry for the late response. Here it is.

I am absolutely not convinced at all that there will be an even 3, 3, 3 distribution of companions across class.  It might end up that way, but it might not too.  We know for sure that we have 7 companions confirmed:

Cass - human female warrior

Varric - dwarf male rogue

Viv - human female mage

Solas - elf male mage

Iron Bull - qunari male warrior(?)

Sera - elf female rogue

Grey Warden - human male warrior

The only people who are really possibilities still for the other two spots are:  Cullen, Dorian, Cole, and Moustache Guy.  We know that either Dorian and/or Cole will not be companions because they are the only two left from the leaked survey and it was confirmed that not all of those characters are still in the game.  However, a dev also said that the war room concept art had "several" characters who aren't companions, which means that "several" of Cullen, Moustache Guy, Leliana, and Scribe Girl are not companions either.  And, of course, there's always the possibility that we haven't seen anything from a possible companion so far, although unless it's deliberate, seems unlikely at this point.

I guess my point is that until we get some more evidence, it seems like it's really totally up in the air for the last two spots.
