Not everyone. I think that Cullen will be a companion and probably the last one revealed. He's on the fanart drawn by someone who knows Bioware and where so far six companions ( if we don't count the grey warden, but I'm sure he is a part of the team ) are confirmed,  Cullen was also on the leaked survey, and some other pics, like, sera, the grey warden, Iron bull or Solas. We also somewhat need the point of view of a templar or at least an ex-templar , or a renegade templar in DAI. So yeah.

Also, everyone was convinced that Alistair wouldn't be in DA:I because his voice actor wasn't called yet, everyone was wrong...

I might be wrong, but I bet that Cullen will be a companion !   ( didn't say an LI huh... )

I would love if you were right, but I'm afraid the naysayers are beginning to defeat my resolve to stay hopeful. I don't care if he is a romance. While I would certainly enjoy if that were an option, I would just really like him in the party as I have felt he would be a great companion since DA2 when his character developed so much.

@ElitePinecone I don't doubt he will be in the game in some capacity, it's just that if he remains an NPC like in the 2 previous games, it makes it feel impossible to really get to know his character more than superficially as I would like to, and that only seems to happen with companions/party members. He is all business in DAO and DA2, and if he is in charge of a military branch for the Inquisitor in DAI, I can imagine he will be much the same. I always wanted Cullen as my BFF, which I just don't think is possible if he isn't a companion, even if he's a major NPC.

I'm done with Cullen, to be honest. A cameo is one thing, but I don't want him to have a role in this game. He has no business involving himself in Orlesian political affairs, and I'm getting pretty sick of him at this point. The more we see of him the less I like him.

Regardless of your opinion of Cullen (which is fair), why do you think he should be involved in Orlesian politics if he's in the game ? We have 5 regions that will cover different plots. Not to mention that Cullen, if present in the game, would be involved in the mage-templar war, which we know it's one of the plots in the game.

Cullen is the most conventionally attractive male out of the possible remaining speculated male characters and none of the other males we've seen so far are conventionally attractive. That explains most of it.

But what about his character makes him interesting? I don't really remember him too well from any of the games.

I have various reasons to think Cullen is not a companion, the principal is tied to my 3/3/3 class split theory, Theory that involves the warrior slots to be full (Cassandra, Iron bull, GW).

But I definitely see him as a important NPC.

Oh my, I hope you don't speak for all Cullen fans! We have many reasons why we want to see more of him! It's just that the question of "Why Cullen?" has been asked (and answered) so many times on the BSN that we sort of ignore the question these days. If people don't find him as interesting and worthy of growth as we do, then oh well.

I see him getting involved in Orlesian affairs if the Divine suddenly decided she needed a moderate Templar heading up the Templar Order/backing her up in reforming the Circles. She would need someone that was an anti-thesis of everything Lambert is. Considering that Evangeline might not be around if

Spoiler
... that makes Cullen a good choice.

I agree 100 %. I just cannot understand WHY people like him so much. He is dull personalitywise, he doesnt look good and he has blond sheephair.

He's handsome, has a nice voice and he fights by your side at the end of DA2, even if you're pro-mage.

Also the way he gets shy when he talks about girls. It's a personality trait he has in both games and it's endearing.

You don't need to understand why though. People like different characters for different reasons.

I don't want to seriously insult anyone that really likes his character, but I don't think there would be nearly as much following if his character model was less attractive, is what I'm saying. The slots are almost all gone and a lot of people wanting to romance a male aren't seeing anyone they're interested in, so they're disappointed.

Ah, I wasn't aware of that. I don't know very much about the game; I've heard a few things, read a few things, seen a few things, but not all that much. I thought it was just focusing on the Orlesian war and whatever the hell is going on with demons appearing all of a sudden. Regardless, I would still rather not see Cullen. I liked him in the first game, but now I'm just done with him.

I know plenty of people that don't find his model attractive but still like him as a character and want him around because he isn't interesting narratively. Personally, he doesn't hit a whole lot of buttons for me, but I still plan on romancing him with my mage Inquisitor if he is a LI because I am attracted to the possibilities the writing might entail for that scenario. =p

But i don't see that as an Orlesian politics plot, but a mage-templar-Chantry plot.
For the record, for Orlesian politics I'd say something related to the Orlesian Civil War.

Aaaaah, gotcha. I thought you meant the Divine and her issues with Lambert. I got confused since she is also Orlesian. =p

The mage-templar war and the OCW are the only known plots, but there are other hinted plots, plus visiting Nevarra, Ferelden and the Free Marchers would provide other plots. If you want, I can tell you which plots might be present in the game.

He became really attractive in DA2 and it just pissed me off because I still couldn't romance him.

Mostly I just like the story possibilities of influencing him to the point he breaks his vows and gives into the temptation of being with a mage.

Well, just look at his clothes; Never seen that one before. Nowhere in DAII. It's truly iconic for a templar. And iconic clothes could very well mean companion !  :P

I do hope you'll love me in the future !  :)

I'm not saying it's everyone that likes the character. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be a judgmental jerk about it, either. I could be happier with the potential LIs for Inquisition, too. lol

If he's anything like me he's just kinda flustered with people connecting dots without a pen. An even approach to classes wasn't even in Origins and 2 and just because there are nine companions now doesn't mean it will be this time, to say nothing of the fact that we're currently sitting at only one companion who is absolutely confirmed as a warrior.

Actually, it was sort of even in DA2, once you reach act 2 you only have 2 rogues, 2 warriors and 2 mages to choose from (Sebastian is paid DLCs).

It's so strange when people ask: "But why do you like Character X when I find him/her so booooooring!" It's as silly as asking someone to explain why they like chocolate ice cream. Obviously, because it tastes good, but some won't think so. You like what you like, and sometimes that defies explanation.

To me, Cullen is a filled donut and  up until now, we have only been allowed to nibble on his outer layer. I want to get to the cream filling of the character!

(Now that I re-read that, it sounds a bit risque, but honestly I'm just hungry.) :P

For me, he's interesting because he's a Templar who has seen the worst of both the Templars and Mages. Since Inquisition takes place in the middle of a Templar/Mage War, I think his perspective could be helpful to someone looking to settle the conflict.

Yeaaah, even though I am tired of the wounded bird/fix me romance trope... I kinda wanna make a huge exception for Cullen. Haha.
