Keep telling yourself that, we all know what you really think, but don't worry we won't tell anyone  :bandit:

LOL. I actually got that mostly out of my system with all the naughty fanfic I wrote after DA2 came out.

Cullen sort of makes more sense to me as a follower than as an advising NPC. I mean it does sort of look like he might just be an important NPC, but I don't really see what qualifies him to be the "military" advisor. Templars are such a specialized military branch and he's spent his career basically just guarding Kinloch Hold and the Gallows. And both of those ended in disaster. I'd think the military advisor would be someone more like Loghain, someone who's basically a renowned strategist. Maybe an experienced chevalier, that way the three NPCs could even be different in who they're associated with (Leliana with the Chantry, political/economics advisor with Celene, and military advisor with Gaspard).

I would think Cullen would want to be more directly involved with the fighting, considering he might take the Red Templars as an insult. Plus he could add a perspective about lyrium addiction. Obviously this is just personal feelings on the matter and I'm sure whatever the writers do with him they'll make it work, but if they ever intended to elevate him to companion this seems like the game they would do it in to me. So I'm still holding out hope for him but who knows.

@davidgaider

@SeeTheFlickers I suppose that depends on who you assume the three warriors are, and whether we only have three warriors, doesn't it?

David said this in response to a Cullen fangirl who was sad he wouldn't be a companion. He could've just ignored her comment, so maybe it's something.

I think David actually enjoys not confirming anything.

True, but it's fanart based on leaked concept art, no? This lineup seems extremely plausible to me, given what we know.

I had a flash of imagining Loghain (he is alive in my planned Inquisition PT) and Leliana as advisors for the Inquisitor and I think I blew a fuse. LOL.

I love the idea of having to see him struggle with his lyrium addiction for some reason.

It is yes. Based on the survey leak if I remember.

Though, Cullen's outfit there is based on real DA:I concept art. It was the picture of him in the leaked survey:

(I think it's... pretty significant here that Cullen and the Scribe Lady are the only two characters not pictured holding weapons.)

Same. We know it's a big deal, but haven't really gotten a chance to explore what that means for Templars that actually have to deal with the addiction long-term.

What do you feel the lack of weapons signify?

That they are major NPCs and not companions.

No thanks.  I'd rather not have a weepy confused withdrawing drug addict in my party. <_<

While I enjoyed little things like Anders fighting with Corypheus' Call and losing (nothing like a pre-boss warm up!) having Cullen go through that is not my idea of a good time.  If Cullen is another companion, I'd rather see him struggle with the emotional consequences of his actions and towards the splintering of his Order.

By the way, I heard that "Scribe Girl" (aka Jasmin) was not a companion.  Is there a source for that or did I just remember wrong?   I hope I remembered it wrong, because we need another lady in the party.  Balance things out some more.

I do know I don't want Cole in the party.  He's too complicated to explain well for newcomers.  It took pretty much an entire book to explain him and while I'm sure they could condense his story some, it still seems like a very tricky task.  He isn't like Loghain.  Loghain, who was in the Stolen Throne, was pretty easy to explain enough for the player.  Granted, they left out some of the details of his story in favor of those that recruited him later.

Cole, in the other hand, has this bad tendency to be forgotten without blood magic, has the mentality of (by the end) a young teenager, and has a history so convoluted that it's tough to explain.  With the word budget that David curses with all his being, I can't see how they could get Cole in.  Sorry if I'm bias, but I'd rather have another female companion in the group than him.  Don't get me wrong, I loved Cole in the book.  I just don't want to see him in game.

Then I wonder why you would have them all together with other companions. It seems.....odd. Unless they were not originally shown that way?

I'll have you know scribes are deadly when cornered. Those quills can take an eye out.

I'm pretty doubtful that the "scribe girl" is a companion because of the whole clipboard thing. What is she going to do what that in battle? lol

It just seems really unlikely to me that she's not some kind of administrative NPC.

That isn't to say there wont be another female companion, though. I would just be really surprised if it was her.

It's a fanart

When I said that the clothes seemed totally legetimate and strangely accurate the first time we saw this pic, people said, " it's a fanart " ( meaning it isn't legetimate )

I already know who was right. ( me as well ) We have now seven folks confirmed with this " fanart.  "

Vivienne, Cassandra, Varric, Solas, have the same clothes in the game... And I bet it will be the same for Iron bull and Sera..

Look at how the artist worked on Cullen... That doesn't only come from his imagination. But, you're right, it's still speculation. We'll see who is right.  :P

Sorry sorry sorry, I know you wrote an awesome post about Cullen but you mentioned Loghain as our military advisor and I was filled with a mighty need oh my god.  :crying:

Anyway, now reading the rest of your post...

What you say about Cullen and military positions is very, very true, now that I'm really thinking about it. He was obviously a kid in DAO, and while he's older as of DA2, I don't know if his military knowledge has grown with his character. So, while I could see him being the military advisor NPC, it would make more sense for Cullen to be a companion on this basis.

Good catch.  :)

Yeah, that's because the artist saw the leaked survey art. The character design is identical. There's no confirmation that all those characters are companions or even in the game.

They were.  I'm going to be blunt; just because most of them are confirmed (or about to be) confirmed companions, they could have all be drawn at the same time.  Bare in mind, those survey pictures were never meant to be seen by the public.  Plus, David said awhile back that not all of the characters from the leaked survey will not be companions.

It was from Andy Bennett's Febuary Daily Draw. Vivi, Cass, and Varric are all accurate because he had screen shots and character kits to work from. The rest he took inspiration from the leaked survey and the Matt Rhodes concept art.

You were right, the outfit was taken from the survey (I wasfocused on the War room piece).

However, he's quite wrong about Moustachio, he was supposed to have a sword and a triden-shaped staff, not that strange looking staff.

Yes, I did see where David mentioned that, which is why I have been doubting of late. *sigh* Still hoping, though.
