I'm starting to think that my idea of a rage demon possessed nug follower could become true with magazines being so full of mistakes.

 

Since the latest OXM error, I'm starting to think that Iron Bull and Sera might not be followers and the whole thing is speculation from "journalists" who saw some stuff and though it meant those were companions when they received no confirmation from the dev about it. I actually found it strange that Solas was in screenshot showing the party, but not Iron Bull in the latest magazines despite apparently being revealed. When Cassandra, Varric and Vivienne were revealed, they all showed up together in party screenshots.

I know what you mean.  I makes me wonder, though, if Iron Bull isn't a companion, then what is he? Important, obviously, but in what capacity? Is he the Military Advisor we've all been debating about? Which would be... interesting.

 

So, Dev-confirmed companions: Cassandra (W), Varric ®, Vivienne (M), Solas (M)

Companions seen in-party with Inquisitor: Blonde Elf, Bearded Warrior

Other Characters: Iron Bull, Dorian*, Cullen, Cole, Flaily Hands*

        *These two could be the same character

 

Of those, I'm starting to think that Iron Bull or Cullen are likely to be the Military Advisor, and Dorian/Flaily the companion. Cole I personally think is an NPC, but that's just me.

 

So, by possible class--

 

WARRIORS: Cassandra, Beared Warrior, Iron Bull, Cullen

ROGUES: Varric, Blonde Elf, Cole

MAGES: Vivienne, Solas, Dorian

UNKNOWN: Flaily Hands (if he isn't Dorian)

And since all three magazines have used some version of the sentence: "Iron Bull is a qunari with a dark past", it sounds like they were hand-fed that line by Bioware's PR person, or got the same five-second briefing about the character. 

 

The magazines have all got things wrong, but crucially, they all got different things wrong. They were unanimous on revealing Solas and the Iron Bull, and I think that information is almost certainly true.

 

(Plus, the survey said Iron Bull was a companion. Ditto for Sera.)

But we've never seen Iron Bull in concept at with the Inquisitor, have we? He's always off by himself. Makes a girl wonder. Also, we've never seen him in the party like we have with the Blonde Elf or the Bearded Warrior. Just... putting it out there.

It actually occured to me this morning that the Follower Fridays aren't supposed to reveal all the companions before the game comes out. Which makes me think there's at least one companion they want to surprise us with. Either because we already know who they are and than don't want to spoil the fan-gasms people might have, or because knowing who they are would spoil the story.

 

So if it's someone who falls into the first category, I would say its either Cullen, Cole, or (dare I say) Hawke (probably my own wishful thinking cos no one else seems to think this is possible).

 

If it's someone whose in the second category, it could be someone we already know, or who will be introduced in DA:I, that we wouldn't be expecting to join our party (similar to Loghain in DA:O), so knowing they're a companion beforehand would ruin the story.

The bit of info about IB might be based on some questions for the journalists to the devs. So far Bioware always shown companions when announcing them in DAI. Based on the recent inaccuracies I woudn't be sure about IB.

Lets put it this way, David did tell the journalist some stuff about him (the PR line), but it is possible the "he is a companion" is an assumption they have made at this point. I mean, two out of three magazines made the claims that Morrigan was a party member and we know none of the dev would have made that claim to them.

I thought there was a picture of Iron Bull in the party where a dragon was knocking over a stone wall? Does anyone remember the one? 

 

I went hunting for some Iron Bull images, but the only one with a dragon that I found was this one from PAX, I think. There's another where he's gazing at a wall being rebuilt, but, again, all on his lonesome.

 

It could mean utterly nothing, but if we're scraping for details and information, I don't think we should assume anything about these characters unless a Dev has said it. (And did a Dev say anything? The most I remember is that Iron Bull is chilli dogs, but does that mean he's a companion, or simply important?)

1 more female elf, and 1 golem or some other kind of "non-human" creature. And by non-human, I mean those that don't look humanoid - skin, walking on two feet, two arms, all that.

I don't think so, I believe that's the Inquisitor on fire, then Varric, Solas, and Cassandra ducking around the pillars.

The one near Solas is Cassandra, and the one near Varric is the Inqusitor.
This Shot was taken with all the other in the magazine, where the party is Rogue Quizzy, Cassandra, Varric and Solas. IB isn't present.

Because the devs haven't said a word about Sera, the Grey Warden or DHMG officially... but everyone knows they exist, and are more likely than not to be companions.

 

This thread has shown that there are only two spots left - arguably one, if DHMG is in - and unless they consciously don't show or talk the ninth companion for the next six months, it's going to be really difficult to keep that hidden.

I snagged this from the twitter thread.  Varric was confirmed as beef bourguignon, which is a fancy name for really nice French-style beef stew:

I believe that according to the Twitter thread, IB was confirmed as the Chili Dog.  I'm not sure though and I'm still waking up, so I'm not up for going back through that thread yet.  Oh the picture next to Cassandra is supposed to be a baguette, but the creator couldn't find a good picture of one.

IB wasn't confirmed as anything and beef bourguignong is not a fancy name for a beef stew. It's a traditional French recipe made with red vine.
