DHMG is armed and armored like the Tevinter mage concept art pieces, and the color and straps on the battlemaster are close to the survey art.

In the same way Cassandra's appearance is close to Aveline's.
 
 

They sure do.  The Tevinter Battlemage uses a spear-like staff and a sword (and as he progresses up to level 4 he gets more intricate arms and armor, this is just the basic form).

Heroes of Dragon Age? Sorry, but that's not a credible source. It's not developed by BioWare. And even if you take that Tevinter Battlemage as evidence of anything it doesn't really help your argument. That Battlemage isn't carrying a staff, just an ornate sword with a long handle(the weapon is only like 3 feet long) and Mustache guy is carrying a pike.

I'm not sure if it does, because he's reprising the role of Cullen. Gaider said that casting for a certain character takes place late in the development process, but they already had Greg Ellis for Cullen since DA2. Companion or not, I don't think Cullen is going to play a minor character. And since GE got in so much trouble for the Cullen tweet, I don't think he'd say if he's done any VO work since.

 

That's a good point. Greg Ellis has actually voiced Cullen since Origins! They wouldn't need to cast him. As long as the dialogue was written at that point, which it probably was if my theory about Jennifer Helper writing his Story/Romance before she left is true.

Could you link a few of the images that make you feel that DHMG is more likely to be a warrior than a Tevinter mage?  Similarly clad warriors?  You very quickly dismiss the art I've collected showing similar design themes, but could you show some visual evidence that your theory is more valid than mine?  I'm not saying that art doesn't exist or your theory is wrong, but they're both possible and neither are definite.

Also, your long sword idea is wrong: he's not using a 3 foot long sword.  Here's the Tevinter Battlemage silhouette from different angles.  He is holding a spear- or sword-like staff and has a sheathed sword on his hip.  Dragon Age is a multimedia experience, but I guess it's your choice to exclude one entirely.  The artists on Heroes of Dragon Age might not be making exact replicas of in-game DA models, but they're getting their material somewhere.

I had to ask the very nice fans over at the Heroes of Dragon Age forum, they have good screenshots. It looks like the Battlemage's sword turns into a staff as he levels up, the same thing happens with the Tevinter Laetan Mage.

 

(The level 4 Tevinter Arcane Warrior looks *nothing* like DHMG, but the Tevinter Arcane Mage has robes that plausibly look like DHMG's War Room concept from behind.)

 

I wasn't able to get a side-on view, but the silhouette you posted is evidence that he's holding a staff in the fouth upgrade tier.

 

(Oh - and the bottom end of that staff in the last image is pointed.)

 

I remember reading that the studio behind HoDA collaborated quite closely with Bioware during its development. If I had to guess, the artists handed over a fair bit of concept art and then the 3D modellers at EA Capital Games recreated them roughly in a different engine.

 

Parts of that model look very similar to the survey concept of DHMG, particularly whatever those strips are on the bottom of his robe. It's a pity the black IP-obsuring bar covers his midsection, otherwise we'd see if the belt was similar too.

And what? Siloettes are completely different from him. And he has spear, armor and sword not stylized staff. Fans of magisters find them even in warriors.

I know that people are mostly joking when they say that DHMG is semi-confirmed, but I'm not really even seeing where they are getting that based on what Allan said.  Is there some context that would help me connect Allan's comment as anything other than just an offhand joke?  Is it because the message mentions his being like that because of a magic experiment?
