It really depends on whether you want to trust an actor's interpretation of the game material. ;)

Not to worry, though. Clarification will come, in due time.

Ouuuut of liiiikes. But I like this.

Probably well before that. I know people on the forum leap on every bit of info and demand confirmation for every hint now now NOW...but, let's face it: we haven't even revealed all the followers yet, never mind a single romance. There are still many months to go before release, and the big marketing push has yet to really begin.

Don't you see? We're dying over here! It's like we're trapped under water and romance information is an oxygen tank ever so slowly sinking down to where we are!

Nah I'm kidding, we can be patient. Kind of. Sort of. Not really. We try.

I'm all for being patient.  And for speculating over every piece of information that we can while we are patiently waiting for confirmation.  Those don't have to be mutually exclusive!

With Cassandra, Feathers, Cullen and maybe Iron Bull being warriors i doubt there will be a 5th one

IF (and that's a big if at this point) Cassandra, Cullen, Iron Bull, and the Warden are all companions, then it's very very likely that the final companion is a rogue or mage.

Fourth, you mean. :P

If Cullen isn't a companion, there are only three warriors confirmed.

Or it could be a custom class like a golem, dog or a nug

Well okay then, not counting Cullen we have 2 confirmed warriors and one possible (because i still say Iron Bull can be a rogue dual wielding great swords  ), in this case we could get a 4th warrior and we'll definetely get a 3rd

I find it... presumptuous to assume how many companions slots are supposedly left. Please forgive me if that sounds rude, but what I mean is how many are confirmed companions? We know Vivienne is. Solas has been seen enough... and then there's Cass and Varric... but who else beyond those 4 has concrete confirmation? And even then I'm not sure of any of them, except Viv. We've seen the characters, yes but those 4 are the only ones I've seen consistently. Maybe DA:I could be like Jade Empire in that not all possible companions are recruit-able in every playthrough? And who you recruit, or even run into, depends on choices you make as you play? So the final companion count may not be what we think. The companions seen thus far may not be what we think. I haven't been able to scrutinize every bit of info because of work so, have I missed something? I just... don't recall any character being a definite companion besides Vivienne along with "seems probable and mostly confirmed" of a few others. I really don't know where this final count of there being only 2 slots left comes from.

I think a lot of the companions are a pretty sure shot. We definitely know about Varric, Cassandra, Vivienne and Solas. We saw warden and Sera in party footage, so I think they seem like a pretty safe bet. Then there's Iron Bull, who we've seen a lot of art from, but not necessarily any in the capacity of a party member. He seems like a firm guess, but lesser so than the others. Cullen isn't anywhere near "confirmed", to me. We've specifically seen a dev in here with a vague maybe/maybe not response, which is the opposite of confirmation. I'd say the last 2-3 slots, at least, are still open for debate at this point.

Ok, correct me on this please, aren't a rogue suppost to be stealthy and quick in the attacks? also we haven't seen a rogue duel wield great swords/axes before, and don't give me that "but the Arishok..." like it's proff...sure i mean rogues can be big people aswell, i guess, but from all the concept art/trailers we have seen for IB, he is holding ONE great sword, not two...of anything really, so why is it that some people think he is a rouge if he is a companion? :S MAKE ME SEE IT YOUR WAY! lol :)

So here's the quick update and, keep in mind, a lot of this is using "semi-confirmed" (which is just a fancy way of saying speculation with pretty solid supporting evidence).  You are correct in saying that only Cassandra, Varric, and Vivienne have ever been officially confirmed by Bioware as being companions.

Cass, Varric, Viv (that's three)

Solas - the elf mage.  He was "confirmed" as a companion by a German magazine after a visit to the studios.  We've seen screenshots of him in battle and Gaider come on BSN to correct people about his name (but not about the speculation that he was a companion).  He's pretty much all but officially confirmed at this point.

Iron Bull - the qunari warrior or rogue.  He was "confirmed" by several magazines as a companion, but some of those magazines also posted incorrect information.  We've never seen gameplay footage of him.

"Sera" - the elf rogue.  She was "confirmed" by at least one magazine as a companion, but I'm not sure how reliable that is.  She was also seen in gameplay footage in the party along side the Grey Warden.

The Grey Warden - a human warrior.  He has never been confirmed but was seen in both gameplay footage in the party alongside Sera and in the companion armor customization concept art.

Cullen - a human warrior.  His VO has confirmed that he's returning as Cullen and has put in about 20 hours worth of voice recording.  He also "confirmed" "romance and companionship" as well as "raunchy" dialogue that he's recorded.

That's where people are getting 8 companions.  We know that there are 9 companions, so that would leave 1 spot left.  You are correct, however, that only three of the eight have been confirmed officially.

I would be pretty surprised if Iron Bull was a rogue dual wielding great swords, because we've only ever seen him with one great sword. There are some smaller weapons on him, but the "equipped" weapon is always one great sword and there's obviously not another one anywhere on him.

I would prefer another mage at this point. We never had 3 mages in any party in any Dragon Age game, so it would be a nice change. And if the rumors are true and DHMG might be a Tevinter magister, it would also be the first time we would have 3 entirely different perspectives for the use of magic.

Not that I would say no to another rogue, but I'm good with Varric.

Well i believe people think he might be a rogue because they also think Cullen and Feathers will both be companions and warriors and that we will have a 3/3/3 class ratio.

I like the idea because of how ridiculous it is

I enjoy reading things like this, particularly things that people toss around as if they're simply givens and old news at this point.

It's too bad this leads to disappointment in the long run, but I guess that's really on the individual speculator,

Not quite true. I've just been walking around Kirkwall with Bethany, Anders, and Merrill trailing after me with their blue mana bars making my yellow stamina bar stand out awkwardly.

Personally, the equal balance of classes (3/3/3) means little to me because I trust the devs to make it balanced regardless of the classes you choose. They went into decent depth on this subject at the Pax Prime panel in September, I think.

Honestly, I think a lot of it is just people trying to solve the mystery. Some people no doubt get incredibly attached to their ideal and disappointed when they don't get it after convincing themselves that their biased presentation of the evidence proved it must be so, but I think for a lot of people it's just a game of clue. The fun is in piecing together the "evidence" and making your guesses, whether they pan out or not. At least, that's why I'm here.

Ah. I wasn't aware Solas' confirmation was suspect. Okay, so three... Where do we get the number 9 for companions? Past games?  Maybe there are fewer? Or More? Or quest specific companions? One thing I loved about Jade Empire was that playing it a different way could have you run into a different companion than any of the others you'd had. I think there were 2 or 3 that were like this which I thought was cool and wouldn't mind seeing implemented again. Anyhoo, thanks for the clarification.

On the DA:I site it says you can choose from 9 companions.

But, there isn't anything to say that you can/will get all 9 of them in the party at the same time.  There were 9 companions in DA 2, but you could only have 8 of them at a time since Carver and Bethany were mutually exclusive.  I'm not saying that it's likely that this is the case, just that your idea of mutually exclusive companions could still happen.  We have nothing to indicate either way, to be honest.
