I suppose either Iron Bull or the Grey Warden could be an Arcane Warrior? We've seen no evidence that either of them have magic potential in the slightest, but never say never right?

If Iron Bull was part of the Qun, I'd think not. We know what they do to mages. Warden is a maybe?

Arcane Warrior is an elf thing. I think it is much more likely that one of these characters is out. (Thank goodness too: now we'll have a better chance at a 5:4 gender ratio. )

I don't know if it's necessarily a "much better" chance. The early theories, before Cullen looked more and more likely as a companion, were that the survey was correct and the last two slots would be Dorian and Cole. That would actually fill the class distribution now, if Cullen is an NPC.

They stated that companions are leader-types. Cole woudn't fir the description.

The 3/3/3 confirmation is giving me hope that both Mr Mustache and Cole are back on the table.  :D

But that means one of the warriors is probably not a companion...  I'm wondering if NPC romances are going to be a thing this time and that's why we're not getting confirmation of Cullen as a companion even though he's a LI.

3/3/3?

I suppose my theory that Ser Michel would become a companion is probably out. We seem to have about hit our warrior quota.

If this is accurate (and it has been so far, it seems), and we're looking at an even 3/3/3, I wanna say that maybe the Warden would be the third rogue, and DHMG is our third mage, and so everything would fall into place

Well, they said that in Inquisition "you are the leader" and your companions are "the best of the best". I think what she meant was that you're going to have an authority position this time, instead of being a refugee that no one listens to, followed around by a bunch of other misfits that no one cares about. I don't think it necessarily totally eliminates the possibility of Cole.

I'm not saying it's definitely him, though. For at least the last slot, we don't have much evidence for anyone at this point.

If the equal distribution of party roles is true, my guess is:

Mage: Viv, Solas, Dramatic Hands Mustache Guy

Rogue: Sera, Varric, Cole

Warrior: Cassandra, Iron Bull, Grey Warden

I really would like Cullen to be a companion, cos I think we're getting a ton of mage viewpoints (pro circle, apostate, and I'm gonna just guess Mustache Guy will be Tevinter), but not very many Templar viewpoints. But I also see the value of both a Qunari and a Grey Warden perspective. Really, I kind of think the rogues need to get a lot more interesting.

I'm also going to hope that somehwre there's an either or companion - like Bethany/Carver, Alistair/Loghain, Kaiden/Ashley. It makes things more interesting. In which case, I have no idea, but my gut intinct would be Cassandra/Cullen.

I just really don't like non-companion romances, they just feel tacked on to me.

Ugh...please no Cole.

If it is a 3/3/3 split as assumed based on the Pax news.

Let the last Rogue position be filled by an unknown/surprise character.

(although if they did go with Cole....since only a spirit medium type can see him.....would be easy on development....he's an invisible character!)

I would really like Cole as a companion... and to not end up with a 3:6 gender distribution, that's something I'd consider a huge letdown.

Maybe like the Bethany/Carver thing you get to choose between to potential companions? ... like for example, you get to choose the Grey Warden or the ex(?) Templar (Cullen) ... but I don't think that would rule Cullen out of the game...just move him into an NPC position?

I'm mostly grasping at straws here.

Hopefully a woman. I'm going to cling onto the hope that we'll have a fourth female companion until I'm proven wrong!

Well, if it helps, Cole doesn't technically have a gender.

I've also considered that some characters may be mutually exclusive, but I don't think they'd be an "extra". I don't think the overall count would go up to 10. I think you'd just be down to 8 choices after one is eliminated. So, I don't think that would allow an extra warrior. It might help explain the gender imbalance, though, if the two in question are both male.

I'm sure Cullen is in game, though. They've said he's going to be a LI at this point, he's confirmed in game. I'm just leaning towards him being an NPC right now.

I'm kind of hoping Cole isn't a companion so we can get another female character since the gender ratio is so skewed with the people we are speculating.

With the party being balanced on a 3/3/3 ratio, I don't think there'll be mutually exclusive characters.
If there's one, I think it'll be secret like Loghain.

If they want to perfectly balance the classes, then yeah, it doesn't make much sense that they'd toss someone out. Seems to go against the point. I'm thinking there will probably just be the 9 all the way through with maybe possible, but not necessary, deaths.

Heh, so were Justice and Shale, but I still see them as male and female respectively in representation. Especially since their memories/experiences are slightly coloured by that.

Hoping it's and actual lady *cough* dwarf *cough*. Though then I'd be left with the difficult question of 'who to take in an all-women party'. Always a tricky one at the start of DA2!

This is so much what I want.

A dwarf lady follower would make my dreams come true.

Well, I think Shale is more arguably female. She was a woman before she was put in rock, so her "gender" would still be female, even if she lacks the female sex organs. That's my view, at least. Justice and Cole have never had a gender, as we know it, basically. I do understand where you're coming from on the issue. I know it's kind of a lame, semantic argument when you boil it down.

I just want Cole because I love the character concept. I really like what he stands to add to the lore concerning fade creatures, especially with the rifts. I'm biased in wanting him to get a slot, especially knowing he was at one point a concept. I understand people wanting gender balanced, it's just my preference for Cole to get a slot even at the cost of that. I do wish he could have gotten a slot another way, like making one of the other concepts female (warden or Tal-Vashoth would have worked great), but that ship has sailed.  :(

I love Cole, he's a big mystery and there is so much to find out about him, but I'd rather a more equal distribution of genders... maybe Cole could be in another game... but if the 4th female is sacrificed for Cole, I guess that would make the sting a little bit better

If IB had been a female Qunari, I think I would have died from excitement.

Ah well.

I think they plan on balancing the M-F ratio by the NPC's that will be heavily involved.  We know Morrigan will play an important part, and Leliana runs the spy network.  Since this game is so much larger.  I definitely think NPC's play a larger part now.

We know Morrigan, Leliana and Scribe Girl were all heavily features in concept art and will likely be important NPCs with only maybe Cullen being a male NPC, if he isn't a companion, so this might be a good theory.
