I really can't imagine the Grey Warden or the Iron Bull being any class but Warriors.

Iron Bull is seen holding a two-handed sword in every image with him in it and he looks a bit too big, even by Qunari standards, to be hiding in the shadows like a rogue.

Beardy (the Grey Warden companion) is seen holding a sword and shield in every image his been shown so I presume his also a warrior unless Rogues can now hold shields.

Until Bioware confirm that Cullen is a companion, I can't see him making it as companion while still maintaining evenly distributed classes in the game.

Non-companion romances are not new to BioWare and Ellis wasn't asked if Cullen is a companion in the game, he was asked if Cullen would provide companionship. People are jumping the gun, assuming Cullen is a companion.

Yeah, I am not sure if I misread the posts today, but I thought that Cullen was explicitly confirmed as a romance option and companion.  Was he only cleared as one?

The devs did not say anything about his companion status. They only said that he was a LI.

So from what I've read the panel said that there will be three companions per class, and implied that Iron Bull is a warrior. Since we now have Cassandra, GW and Iron Bull, this would confirm that Cullen is not a companion, wouldn't it?

Well, I think Shale is more arguably female. She was a woman before she was put in rock, so her "gender" would still be female, even if she lacks the female sex organs. That's my view, at least. Justice and Cole have never had a gender, as we know it, basically. I do understand where you're coming from on the issue. I know it's kind of a lame, semantic argument when you boil it down.

I just want Cole because I love the character concept. I really like what he stands to add to the lore concerning fade creatures, especially with the rifts. I'm biased in wanting him to get a slot, especially knowing he was at one point a concept. I understand people wanting gender balanced, it's just my preference for Cole to get a slot even at the cost of that. I do wish he could have gotten a slot another way, like making one of the other concepts female (warden or Tal-Vashoth would have worked great), but that ship has sailed.  :(

Honestly, I got really excited when the survey info was first leaked and it sounded like we might get Cole, since I really enjoyed his character in Asunder and there is just so much potential there for his story. And he would make a very interesting rogue! Now though I think I prefer the idea of having him as a major NPC. Either way, I'm hoping he's in Inquisition in more than just a cameo.

It basically confirmed either he isn't a companion, or Grey Warden is being completely misread by us and isn't a companion, I would think?

Or Cullen is a mage!  :o

It would, if we had official confirmation of GW and IB.

While IB has been confirmed in magazines/concept art, and we've seen GW in concept art, we don't have anything official.

The companion armour panel from waaay back said that the Grey warden and Cassandra shown were both warriors, and the panel apparently listed Iron Bull as a "two hander" which would imply warrior as well.

It's quite exciting, as having a non-companion romance confirmed hints at the real possibility of 6 LI's.

Yep, I'm aware.

My point is that companion status is "officially" unconfirmed, not warrior status.

They confirmed Iron Bull was a two-hander. Some people have still said that means dual wielder rogue, but I think it most obviously means two-handed warrior. It doesn't say in that blog if he is a companion, or not, though. It also doesn't mention grey warden at all and nowhere else has confirmed him. So, yeah, I think we can't call it 100% confirmed right now.

With the level of evidence we have, though, I think it's a fairly good bet on Cullen being an NPC and Cassandra/IB/Warden being our warriors, though.

We do have this image of the Bearded Grey Warden so I'd say his likely to be a companion.

It seems like every time Bioware reveals something, it just raises MORE questions! :D

Yeah, Warden was featured in game play and so was Sera. There's a video where you can see them more clearly, but I don't know where it is to link the whole thing now. I think there's more evidence right now for warden being a companion than Cullen. I'm just keeping all the options open until they're officially closed. It is always POSSIBLE that Grey Warden is a temp. companion. It's probably not the most likely thing, though, with the level of concept art and such that we've seen.

Yep, this is my stance as well. Is it likely that GW got cut after being shown in the gameplay video? Not really. But nothing's officially confirmed yet, so eh.

So, if the 3/3/3 information is legit:

Warriors:

Cassandra

Iron Bull

Grey Warden

Mages:

Vivienne

Solas

DHMG???

Rogues:

Varric
Sera

Cole???

As much as I adore Cullen, and I'm thrilled I'll get the chance to romance him, I think the fact that they purposefully avoided confirming him as a companion means he will be a NPC romance. If Cullen, Leliana and Scribe Lady are all important advisors to the Inquisitor, I imagine Scribe Lady will probably be the female NPC romance.

I really hope there are more women than that.   Bioware's usually pretty good with having an even-ish distribution.

Also who is Cole? Someone from the expanded materials?

On the subject of mutually exclusive companions:

Both Origins and DA2 had this... Alistair/Loghain, Bethany/Carver. In both cases, you don't have access to the companion for the entire game.

So, there's precedent for DAI to have this as well, if not evidence.

In DAO Loghain was a secret companion, that didn't count in the original party number, and in DA2 it was stated before the game was released that they were exclusive companions.
So unless Bioware says something I'd say the 9 companions don't present a mutually exclusive case.
