I don't agree with 6:3, but I'm saying the games have never had more than four female companions in the party at the same time.
In both Origins and DA2, the base number was three women. Only under certain circumstances in DA2 were there four with Bethany, and she was absent from a significant chunk of the game regardless.

Bioware keeps going on about how they're constantly striving to be more fair and equal, but women get the short end of the stick as usual. Go figure.

At this point, I really don't see any other female making it into the companion list. Not that I'm bothered, most of the important characters (Morrigan, Leliana, Celene and Flemeth) in this game seem to be female anyway so it balances it out there.

How does that matter?  In DA: O, there is at least one character who you can't recruit until about 1/2 way through the game since you need to get through at least two of the three treaties sections before you can get everyone.  Doesn't mean that you don't count that character in the tally.

The less said about DAO's party repartition, the better.

I think it would have been nice if they'd made one of the characters gender swapped earlier in conception, but at this point I don't really see a new female popping up. I guess we could be surprised, but I'm doubtful.

It's too bad they didn't make Iron Bull a female Qunari, I think, because people have really wanted a female Qunari. I think it may have been a bigger issue when they turned out not to be a LI, though, so maybe that's what they think they're avoiding. Grey Warden also would have been a good choice as female, though. Honestly, they could have also just left out Varric for a female. It doesn't seem like we need him.

Strong female NPCs are no substitute for strong female companions IMO.

Is Jannika the only female Warden that we meet in the entire series if we don't choose a female PC in the first game (not counting the ghouls) or make Bethany a Warden?  Yeah, it might be interesting to see a female warden in the future.  Maybe a female dwarf warden?

Sophia Dryden is the only other female Warden I can think of off the top of my head.

It´s rather strange that people care so much about the ratio of women and men in that game. I like Bioware´ s characters because of their personality not their XX/XY chromosomes.

Well, Bethany CAN be a warden. She was in my play throughs where she didn't die instead of Carver. There's also Sophia Dryden, sort of. Then Velanna and Sigrun, if you can't that. We don't get a strong focus on any that actually know anything about the wardens, though, no.

Same, but still, it'd be nice to see some more female companions added to the roster.

*Shrugs*

I guess for some people that's important.

Personally, I don't really care what gender gets more attention in the companion list. I'm more interested on what each character will bring to the game and story than what gender they are.

Yeah, sorry, I wasn't clear.  I was actually talking about Sophia Dryden and Utha when I said "the ghouls".  I kind of put Bethany, Velanna, and Sigrun into this weird other category because they aren't Wardens unless we, as the player, decide to make them Wardens.  I was thinking more about the idea of fully developed Warden character who could offer her own perspectives and motivations as a character.  I guess not, though.  Perhaps there will be a lady Grey Warden NPC in DA: I as part of the Grey Warden's companion story?

So David Gaider just posted this in the twitter thread...

It's that time of the project where I must kill babies to save puppies. #priorities #DAI

Part of me wanted to post "some fans should probably consider that the next time they ****** about DLC".

But then I thought better of it.

Do you guys think he was referring to a potential character, or something else getting cut? Just curious to see what others think.

1. Cassandra
2. Varric
3.  Vivienne
4. Bull
5. Warden
6. Sera
7. Solas
8. Tev.Magister/ Dramatic moustache guy
9. Cullen or Rogue.

This is the list of companions guys.....Then we will probably have....

Leliana - spy master, advisor
Some other girl - trade stuff advisor
Cullen or some1 else - battle advisor

I think there will be advisors so that male/female ratio is balanced. Not to mention cullen being companion and not having advisors will mean 7 male vs 2 females or sth like that. Also there is Leliana in conceipts left and right.....I am 100% sure there are some kind of NPC's (advisors) which play a major part in the game. Since i dont think Leliana will be romancable (because she already had a shot in DAO) i think the romancable characters are.

1.Cassandra
2.Cullen
3.Sera.
4.Solas
5.Scribe Lady / Trade Advisor/ Put a name you like (Megan)
6. One of the Varric/Warden.

At worst we will get the first 4.

To take a wild hypothetical, if the (tentative, theoretical, totally unconfirmed) advisors have roughly as much content as the companions, Leliana plus Scribe Lady would make the ratio of major characters 5 women to 7 men. (And if Cole has been replaced by Unnamed Female Rogue, it'd be 6:6)

Then there's the Empress Celene, Briala, the Divine... Morrigan herself has been said to play a significant role.

I'm not defending Bioware if the total does turn out to be 6:3 in the party (it's a bit mystifying and I don't see how a predominantly male party is justified), but there are other major female characters in the game.

DAO was male dominated plot-wise and they didn't feel the need to add more female companions to compensate (quite the opposite in fact).

I can bet you that BioWare do no count NPC genders before making their companion list. I said it before, NPCs cannot stand in for companions. The companion gender equality is not about how long you get to talk to female or male characters in the game. It's about party/gender/personality choices.

If BioWare is really going for a 6:3 party, they will get the exact same complains they got for DAO. Complains they tried to address in DA2. Complains they even made themselves recently at GDC against other games when the BioWare dev said that sfantasy based game had no reason to discriminate against female characters.

I stand corrected. There are several more female Wardens: Genevieve, Fiona, and Utha.

I guess it depends on what he was referencing?  Was it about companions?

Something else. It's way late in the game to be cutting companions or adding in new ones.

No. He originally tweeted about cutting some stuff, with no actual reference to what it was actually cutting.

Agreed completely except for #9.  I think it's "Cole or other Rogue".

And for "Trade Stuff Advisor", I suspect "Scribe Girl"

Plot quests, maybe. Or it's possible they are just shaving off pieces of quests that just don't fit with the rest of them.

What is with you people and "females"? Female what? Platypuses? If you want to talk about a female human being outside of a scientific context, we have a noun for that in English: woman.

Here's some additional reading if you're still confused.

On the issue of equality, I think Bioware has tried to make amends in a lot of ways. Consider one of the biggest complaint about ME was how straight women got the screwed on romances. DA2 has an etxra romance JUST for straight women. It's possible this is what Cullen could be again. This doesn't necessarily make up for the balance, or even align with the same motivations everyone has for wanting more women, but I think it does imply they're trying to listen to the complaints women are making.

Wouldn't female be more appropriate since we are talking about humans, elves, dwarves, and qunari, which are all different species (or at least, sub-species)?
