I thought I saw somewhere within the last day that there will be no DLC companions for the game proper.
Bioware does balance pretty good in the DA games:
DAO:
Had 3 warriors, 2 mages, 2 rogues. 4 females (2 romanceable), 3 males (2 romanceable)
-Considered Shale a Warrior and female......if not considering DLC character, it was perfectly balanced.
DAI:
Had 2 warriors, 2 mages, 3 rogues. 3 females (2 romanceable), 4 males (2 romanceable)
-Did not consider Seb as a romance.....if you take him as a DLC character out from rest of the counts....perfectly balanced.
So far for DAI we know there will be 9 companions. We have confirmed:
2 warriors, 2 mages, 2 rogues......3 males, 3 females.
Pretty good balance so far....I don't see them tossing it by bringing in 3 more male companions.
(here's to two human male companions....and a female dwarf)
Your math's a bit off in Origins.
Alistair, Loghain, Oghren, Sten, and Zevran make five males; four if you don't count Loghain.
Leliana, Morrigan, and Wynne make three. Four makes it more balanced if you count Shale, but that's debatable being that she/its a DLC character and doesn't seem to consider her/itself female, or having any gender at all, really.
Also the class count was off if you're counting Shale as a warrior, it makes four; Alistair, Oghren, and Sten. I won't include Loghain in that count since he replaces Alistair, but you can arguably count Dog as well, bringing it up to five.
Personally, I got my money on Adrian as the last mage companion and the character from Asunder they said would show up. While I don't agree with everything she did in the book (will not post spoilers), I think she would make an awesome counter to Vivienne. Adrian is the complete opposite to Vivienne in almost every way, she is very pro-independence for mages, hot tempered, very forceful personality, and no where near as obsessed with her clothes. I think having the pair of them around would make for some very outstanding companion dialogue, not to mention strong proponents for their respective viewpoints.
I suspect that the role of counter to Vivienne will be played by Solas; if you look at them, they're opposites in every respect. He's a thin, lanky, pale male elf who dresses in rags, she's a curvaceous, beautiful, darkskinned female human who dresses in outlandish finery. She's a pro-circle mage, he's an apostate.
There is no way these two are not going to be diametrically opposed on everything.
So 6 men and only 3 women?
My sheploo is not pleased.
1st slot: If Dorian is an Arcane Warrior, he would make a nice addition to the roster.
2nd slot: Wouldn't mind a 3rd Rogue stabbity type (Assassin with maybe some additional powers). Cole fits the bill.
Don't really mind if that means having only 3 women to choose from.
Id like Sandal, the first dwarven mage, and another qunari, this time a female rogue. This way we would have racial, gender and class equality. That would mean 3 humans, 2 dwarfs, 2 elfs, and 2 qunari. Also that would mean 5 males and 4 females. Sounds to good to be true but one can hope ![]()
I believe the Grey Warden may have been written by Sheryl Chee, but I'm basing that on a hunch about some tweets she made absolutely ages ago.
Can you show them?
An appealing romanceable female would be nice.
Can you show them?
Nope - it was over a year ago.
As I said, it's just a guess. But Sheryl surely wrote a companion or two, and until we know otherwise I'll guess she is behind the Warden.
Anyone suspect this Dorian fellow is the mustached warrior we see now, and the role being a mage has changed over to Solas and Vivienne?

Some people have suspected he is and that he's actually an Arcane Warrior instead of a straight warrior or mage. It's an interesting idea.

It'll also be interesting to hear more about Tevinter from a mage's perspective.
I think he is a renegade Magister so don't expect him to worship Tevinter.
So, confirmed companions' autorships: David Gaider (Cassandra), Mary Kirby (Vivienne, Varrric), Lukas Kristjanson (Sera), Patrick Weekes (Iron Bull), ¿? (Solas).
Also, the DA Wiki says that Jennifer Hepler wrote a LI/companion for Inquisition before her flight, although i cannot find the original source.

But he'll still have some interesting stories to tell about the country and it's inhabitants though.
Please have a third mage.
I definitely would like to hear Dorian's perspective on Tevinter. He and Cole were the most interesting concepts to me. I'd be happy to see either in one of the open spots.
But both would be better. ![]()
What I would like is to be surprised, and not have a Cullen or Cole or any character that we "know" is in the game like MrMoustache or Grey Warden Warrior Dude.
I'm not realy a fan of already knowing about every companion. We are only in March, nearly April and it would make me sad that every companion is already known, especially if it's that unbalanced. I want equal representation of class and gender please !

I agree with your hope that there could be a companion or two that would still be a surprise. Although I feel very doubtfull of having an even gender amount, it really seems like there's going to be more guys than girls.
So i just finish Asunder again. Dont Cole is a companion, My bet is on Adrian
Well, I'm 99.9% sure that Adrian appeared in a concept art. So there's that. Not sure if she'll be a companion though. A major NPC, perhaps?
Which concept art do you mean? If it's this one, then I think this character is Leliana:

it was her resume at the one site. I don't know if it still exist.
For the moment, everything is right in this pic :
Seems spot on. 3 females and 6 males, though. Not too balanced in that regard.

It is still there, but Jennifer left last summer and her follower might have been rewritten extensively since. It's probably not her character anymore.
