What is with you people and "females"? Female what? Platypuses? If you want to talk about a female human being outside of a scientific context, we have a noun for that in English: woman.

Here's some additional reading if you're still confused.

The reason I use "female" is that, to me, "woman" implies "human", and there are three other races that can be female.

So David Gaider just posted this in the twitter thread...
Do you guys think he was referring to a potential character, or something else getting cut? Just curious to see what others think.

No, I don't believe it hints at anything in specific. I think it is just a comment about the common misconception that things are cut from the base game to be featured in DLC just because they are greedy like that.

Plot quests, maybe. Or it's possible they are just shaving off pieces of quests that just don't fit with the rest of them.

Yeah I suppose you're right. David made such a big deal about how dlc no longer allowed for characters to be added later on that it seems a character getting cut is what he was likely referring to, seeing as how he has never brought up dlc for any other reason. I suppose it doesn't matter anyway, it's not like we will know either way.

On the issue of equality, I think Bioware has tried to make amends in a lot of ways. Consider one of the biggest complaint about ME was how straight women got the screwed on romances. DA2 has an etxra romance JUST for straight women. It's possible this is what Cullen could be again. This doesn't necessarily make up for the balance, or even align with the same motivations everyone has for wanting more women, but I think it does imply they're trying to listen to the complaints women are making.

For Bioware's sake, I do hope Cullen isn't a straight romance. Otherwise, I know quite a few male fans who would be most displeased. Not that I think they would actually go that route.

Edit: In DAO, straight women had 2 options to boot! Gay men and women still only had one.

If he's an extra 5th, I wont be surprised at all if he's straight. If Scribe Girl or another female NPC balances him out, I think they'll probably be bisexual and the companions will be split hetero/homosexual. It's possible that he could be a 5th extra AND bi, but somehow I can just easily see it mirroring the situation with Sebastian.

I really don't want the 2/2/2 system that only leaves one companion romance slot open to everyone, so I'm ready to cut losses with Cullen, basically. Bias might have something to do with my view. But I'd be happier overall if everyone just remained bi/playersexual.

ME3 got released after DA2.

The problem was pretty consistent in the games, though. It wasn't only a problem in 3.

I understand your concerns, but I don't think they're gonna run an uneven number. If there's Cullen as NPC, I think they will have one to mirror him.

Not really, in ME2 Femshep had the same amount of "real" LIs, and in ME3 it wouldn't have been too bad if she got to keep all of them...and then Thane and Jacob happened.

If Bioware is really going for a 6:3 party, they will get the exact same complains they got for DAO. Complains they tried to address in DA2. Complains they even made themselves recently at GDC against other games when the BioWare dev said that sfantasy based game had no reason to discriminate against female characters.

I agree, though Manveer Heir did specifically say at GDC that he did not speak for Bioware and did not necessarily represent its official position. That said, the company has a reputation for being probably the most inclusive and progressive major studio, period. To some extent I think it would be letting down that reputation if the gender ratio is what it seems to be.

My only point was that, Bioware's intentions aside, many of the major NPCs are women. Whether this is enough to satisfy people is subjective - I think the situation is unfair.

(If it is 6:3, the gender disparity would've come up constantly when they were working out early companion lists - was there a reason, then, why it wasn't changed?)

But in ME there was only Kaidan for straight females, Ashley and Liara for straight guys. In ME2 the "main" romances may have been equal, but Kelly, Morinth and Samara all have extra content. It wasn't ever really even. It definitely didn't favor straight females, like DA2 does.

Yes in ME1 but I don't count the flings in ME2 as romance...and Morinth ? really ?

If you meant in numbers the yea, but if you meant LIs in-general the everyone would have atleast 2 each

I'm just counting what the wiki counts as romantic content. I'm just saying, DA2 is the only game that I know of in Bioware's history that demonstrably favors straight women as far as romances go, so I think it's fair to say they're considering what women want to see in the game.

I think that Mort was saying that, since Cullen is an NPC romance, a female counterpart would likely be an NCP as well.  If they were both bisexual, then the other 4 LIs would be companions (1 straight male, 1 gay male, 1 straight female, and 1 lesbian), so each "option" would have 1 companion LI and another NPC LI.

At least, I think that this was the point.  But I might be mistaken.

Morinth is not a romance, it's a non-standard game over, and neither is Samara (in ME2), actually Aveline is more of a romance than Samara.

Ah I see what you mean now

If Bioware is doing 2/2/2 I don't think they're gonna make both the NPC LIs bi

We're getting a bit off-topic with the romance discussion, considering this is a thread about the last two unconfirmed companions.

True.  So if we only looked at the character who grant the romance achievements:

ME 1:  2 straight male, 1 straight female, 1 lesbian, and 0 gay male

ME 2:  3 straight male, 3 straight female, 0 lesbian, and 0 gay male

ME 3:  5 straight male*, 2 straight female, 3 lesbian*, and 2 gay male

* Although that's assuming that Kelly counts in ME 3.  She is listed as not unlocking the achievement in ME 2, but as unlocking it in ME 3.

ETA:  Oops.  Yeah, you are right Elite.  I thought this was an LI thread given the conversation.
