I don't understand...disliking Aveline? But I am curious as to what you found unlikeable about her. And what you're wanting in Cassandra.

There's a litany of reasons I dislike Aveline, primarily her annoyingly judgmental nature and self-righteous attitude, but it's compounded by a lot of little things I won't get into here.

What I'm hoping for in Cassandra is more proactive individual who's less dismissive of outside opinions, someone who comes off as confident rather than arrogant, who's righteousness isn't so hollow. I'm hoping for someone who remembers she has a spine when it matters(Looking at you, Donnic-quest), and who doesn't tell everyone else in the party how to live their lives.

It never ceases to amaze me how different one and the same character can be perceived by different people. ^^

(and this is meant in a positive way; it's very interesting)

Me too.  I found Aveline to be such an incredibly likeable character, but when I read some of Fiend's description of her, I could see how she could see could be perceived that way.  I guess it's a testament to the writers' ability that they are able to craft characters that allow this happen.

I think it was Luke who said that if the characters are polarising it means the writers succeeded. It would be far worse if fans just reacted with "meh".

I think two of the mages this time will probably be males (Solas/Dorian) and we know Cassandra is a warrior, so I'm not sure the classes are that poorly balanced, if it weren't for the imbalance overall. I guess you can't speak much for it, though, since it looks like they just stuck a woman in each class.

As for Aveline, I wasn't a fan of her, myself. I thought she had one of those personalities that tends towards valuing rules more than independent thought, which I always take a strong dislike to. What really soured my opinion towards her was the situation with the "convict" elves that joined the Qun. I'm not in the least a Qunari fan, but the Arishok had me easily siding with him over her. That takes some major disapproval, on my part.

Although I like Aveline, I took issue with her approach on that issue too, since it was far too black and white. I tend to favour the characters who are a bit more flexible and look at each situation uniquely.

Just gonna disagree real quick. Aveline doesn't value law, this is evidenced by how she often engages in light corruption to help people like Fenris or Isabela, or even Hawke. Aveline values order. She believes that Order keeps people safe. She also believes that individuals have a responsibility to make society better, it's why she peaches at Hawke.

Agreed. Aveline also disapproves of bringing the Magistrate's son back to justice.

I think that they also tried to address this in the DLCs.  Between Awakening, Leliana's Song, and Witch Hunt, we had Ariane (a female elf warrior), Sketch (a male elf mage), Finn (a male human mage), and the introduction of Anders.  It wasn't perfect, but it was a start.  Then in DA 2, there were, effectively, 2 mages and 2 fighters (not counting the Hawke sibling), and it was an even split.

Sketch.

I still want a god-damned MAGISTER (a woman if possible - to counterbalance the pro-circle "toady" (maybe I am unfair, as pro circle could mean pro mage or even only pro basic idea (as I don't think anyone can argue that young mages need training)...but i am inclined to believe that we are getting a younger, powerhungry version of Wynne that's more chantry oriented then the later, maybe because she is bitter because she didn't get the cushy first-enchanters-job she had been selected for already!)

greetings LAX

ps: I would not want her to be girly (more like say Selene from "Underworld" meaning: classy-aggressive)

There's actually a pretty good chance we'll get a magister, but it will probably be a man. You can read more about speculation on the possible character here;

Semi confirmed rumor

In the interest of fairness and a proper gender balance ... Bioware has scrapped Cole, DHMG, and Feathers as companions.   :P

Scratching 3 males for females would just make it equally imbalanced in the other direction. lol

Er, unless the devs have changed their stance, it's the last Friday of every month that we'll be getting info on new companions. So it won't be this Friday that we hear anything new

I think he's joking about removing companions altogether, not replacing them.  1 male and 1 female per tree, if you take out those 3.

I think they should fill the last two spots with Nug Wrangling Dwarves who talk incessantly about falling up into that big sky.

Let's begin races.

I bet 10 royals that it is Male Warrior. Grey Warden.

How about you?

The next companion reveal? I'm guessing that it's a non-human male. So Solas or Iron Bull. I think that they might want to wait until closer to release to reveal Iron Bull (since he'll be a much bigger marketing thing), but it might also be strange to do two mages in a row. My money is still on one of those two.

Granted I haven't exactly been paying attention to the Solas talk for a while, but I'm not aware of any actual evidence for him being an awakened elf or anything similar, or really anything other than an apostate that just happens to know a lot about the Fade. As far as I'm aware, everything else is wild speculation.

He was the fourth companion revealed, it only makes sense he would come next.

I think there are good arguments for Follower Friday being either Iron Bull or Solas, but I'll be surprised if it's anyone else, honestly.

I still think trying to apply any logic to the order they'll do follower fridays in is a fool's game. Likely as not they'll be completely random with it, just to subvert our expectations.

Actually, no. The day Vivienne was announced to be featured the next week was March 21, which was the third Friday of March. The we got info the next week up to the next Friday, which was March 28.
