Yes, but as a whole, the order is politically neutral. 

 

The same criticism(?) about some Wardens having titles can also be applied to other supposedly politically neutral groups, like Templars who aren't supposed to hold titles (Bann Elfstana's brother in Denerim) but doesn't stop them from wielding the authority of a viscount in Kirkwall.

 

Granted, I can easily see that as the Divine's, or maybe the Seeker's own social experiment like what the First Warden told the Hero of Ferelden with Amaranthine. It sets a precedent, and if it succeeds, may be used as an example for similar situations.

It's true and holds some water, but the Wardens as a whole simply aren't politically active (except in the Anderfels and Amaranthine apparently, or when you have your Sophia Dryden's) and are politically neutral, all for the purpose of being able to recruit freely from criminals to nobles freely (more or less) to help combat the blight, and to be able to call on any group for aid, hence the treaties in Origins.

Well, for one, being gay does give me far more power than the average person.

 

But what mages are capable of is completely irrelevent to my point, and you can spout that trite line all you like, but I will never accept the potential to do harm, even great harm, as an acceptable basis for discrimination.

Saving countless men, women, and children from execution is an achievement to me. And that was partly because of Orsino encouraging the Circle mages to tell their story to the other Circles.
