Ah yes.

I think he was pretty resigned to them killing/tranquilizing him so it probably was acceptance of his punishment.

Nah it probably would've been as off as Cullen going on a mage killing spree. Did BW ever fix that random encounter glitch where finding him saving those people from darkspawn wasn't triggering? (Jowan I mean not Cullen).

True, but they retcon the Cullen one during Witch Hunt? The mages there say that he got sent away because he was too hysterical to return to duty.

I guess not, because I don't ever recall seeing Jowan during Denerim.

He seemed contrite because he was caught, he lost his supposed love interest and basically resigned himself to die.

  He was contrite because he lost, not because he felt overly bad nor guilty.

He always seemed willing to help Connor, even before the Templars and Irving show up.

Not that i recall, last time i played ultimate edition it was still there.

Didn't he have like 3 endings?

I usually kill him. I guess I should save him once to see it if nothing else.

Like i said he was beaten before the PC ever encountered him, He fled, cast away everything for his personal ambition and freedom and ultimately it was pointless, he was caught, freed and sent to do a job, he was caught, imprisoned and resigned to die as the Keep and village around him turned into a living hell.

I doubt the mage personally felt much sympathy or empathy at that moment considering he caused the entire chain of events to begin with, if he was willing to kill one nobleman why would he care about the serfs or soldiers in his realm?

Cullen? Yes, but they all get retconned to the "Cullen gets sent away to recover from his PTSD" ending during Witch Hunt and Dragon Age II.

Ah.

I think Jowan's Intention was supposed to be his ending except it's bugged to all hell so you're stuck to playing on PC or watching it via youtube.

Though Jowan pissed me off from the mage origin. Oh yes leave your friend hanging bare assed in the wind once you reveal yourself to be a bloodmage. Real nice. My mage couldn't stab him fast enough.

Well... in my case, my Warden tattled on him. Which actually made me hate Irving a little.

"Yes... I thought he might do this. I'm gonna let him continue his plan so that I can make Greagoire look the fool when Lily escapes with him."

"WTF?!?!"

I couldn't really blame Irving for that. He was probably tired of the mages always being blamed for what templars and their ilk did of their own free will.

I was referring more to Lily trying to break Jowan out. He didn't force her to do that. (Also screw both of them and their "well your smart and strong you'll be fine even though they still have your (insert correct spelling of blood vial here)." Screw those idiots. My mage couldn't facepalm hard enough.

Well, at the time, I was role playing a Loyalist Mage... so it felt... incredibly dangerous and petty to her to let a mage that they were going to make Tranquil destroy his phylactery and try to escape. And, lo, it is. Considering all the crap he pulled in Redcliffe because they couldn't track him. =p After Redcliffe and the Broken Circle quest my Loyalist had a brief heel turn and hated Wynne for the rest of the game for being an abomination (and for breaking her and Alistair up). Broken parental figure rebellion, FTW! Whee! That was a hard to role play, but satisfying playthrough.

They weren't the biggest idiots in that origin.

XD that does sound fun. I usually HC my mage as the lucky mages that via virtue of being Irvings favorite are spared most of the crap that goes on in the circle so they're just a bit arrogant and/or naive. Well save my male. He's just a douchecanoe. A powerhungry douchecanoe. He didn't save the anvil because that much power in hands other than his settled badly with him and Branka's madness didn't seem preferable.

Doesn't matter if the character is moderate if he/she doesn't have the option to make the moderate choice. Right Hawke?

I needed a reason to abandon my usual Romancing Alistair thing (really wanted a Zevran romance this time). So, I did a head canon that my Warden actually listened to Wynne when she said it was a bad idea. So, of course, she was super pissed when her parental figure replacement (Where Irving was the father stand in, she was a total teacher's pet too) betrayed her by hiding the whole Faith thing. Didn't speak to her for the rest of the game after that. Which gave me a meta reason to not have Wynne in my party (for balance) and fueled her friendship with Morrigan. FYEAH rebellion phase. =p

Ah. Bleh at taking Wynne seriously during her romance conversation. Though nice Rping. XD

Oh, I usually never do, but I had fallen into a habit of loving Alistair before Zevran showed up and wanted to do something different. Hah.

Anyways, on topic!

Loghain... not a moderate?

Mentioning Loghain...heavy riiiisk...

Seriously though hm...I thought it was just something he said to get Uldred on his side? (not that it ended well).

But the priiiize. I know he is greatly anti-magic in the books. Just can't recall if he says anything in Origins about it.

Ah? But if he had been killed or made tranquil in the mage origin, would it really have changed anything?

Bear with me on this. Loghain was still going to hire an apostate to help Isolde tutor Connor while poisoning the Arl. Isolde was still desperate to keep her son out of the Circle and was looking for an apostate to tutor him.

End result, Eamon would still be poisoned, and the tutor may or may not have been more competent so as not to get caught, and Connor probably still would've been desperate to help his father.

Of course, if Connor is taught by a more competent mage, he may have learned not to trust the lady who offered to help, or he may be so desperate not to know that as he is a child.

You'd still have a poisoned Eamon and a desperate Isolde.

A more competent apostate surely wouldn't have left demon summoning books out for Connor to read.

Where did Jowan even get that book to leave out? He didn't exactly seem to be carrying much more then the clothes on his back when he ran.

In Kirkwall. Which considering the intelligence levels of all the parties involved... that's not saying much. If Merrill had gotten a hold of the tome Morrigan had, there would be mention of it. Witch Hunt DLC was too big a deal to ignore its possible involvement in Merrill's search. Might be an assumption... but considering the Keeper says they left Ferelden directly after the events of the Dalish Origin... I doubt that Merrill got her hands on that VERY important piece of the puzzle.

Considering she built an Eluvian and could feel the power remaining to be tapped into, I'd give her a bit of credit for her efforts.

Again. Morrigan is an expert because she knew how to read the Dalish tome and wasn't afraid to use it. Morrigan is not around for the events of DA2, which means, sadly... again... Merrill being the expert means jack squat. She even admits that she doesn't know enough but she THINKS she should be able to restore it. Not exactly a rousing vote of confidence.

You mean Merrill addresses her own limitations? That's not surprising, since age isn't infallible. She's pooling together the lore she's gathered and direct information from the shard she took; it's not like she knows the result beyond a shadow of a doubt.

From what she's obtained, she believes thus technology can greatly benefit the People, but she's being honest about the fact that she could be wrong.

The reason I say that you think she has no flaws it is because you refuse to acknowledge any. You have an argument for everything, even if it flies in the face of direct evidence both within the game and as WoG.

No, I disagree with you about Merrill's attempts to help her people with this elven technology; that's completely different than thinking she's without flaws.

My last paragraph was directed more at the others in the thread who WERE complaining about the rival path. I am sorry that wasn't clear, I certainly wasn't mistaking you for them.

It's not as though I don't agree with those people about preferring Friendship to the Rivalry path with her character; I disliked it quite a bit.
