One thing I don't understand is how they supposedly spurn Spirit Magic, and yet command spirits in the form of Sylvans.

Maybe they don't summon spirits and instead do something completely different? I mean, no circle mage can summon up roots and move through the earth the way velanna does.

Sylvans aren't really comparable to golems...

just saying

Either way, they're a big benefit.

But you can make them readily in a forest, which is where elves tend to hang out, and you don't need to sacrifice lives and spend a great deal of time and resources constructing a body for the golem.

It may not be spirits, since their magic allows them to control certain aspects of nature, like having roots attack an enemy. Similar to the anime Fullmetal Alchemist, where Van controls constructs in the image of his son Alphonse Elric.

Are totally epic. That's why I'm a dwarf.

That and I really like dwarves.

As paragon, and hopefully King of Orzammar, I can promise you two dozen steel golems plus lyrium for your mages in exchange for aid against the darkspawn in the deep roads.

When you think about it, it wouldn't be the first time. The honorable topsider was an elf, and he was given full honors and a dwarven burial because he was so respected by the dwarves he fought with.

And since there's a precedent, we can make it a tradition and that'll shut the dwarven nobles up. :D

You're most generous, Paragon. :)

Just be sure to sell us plenty of fresh fruit and quality wine. We can't exactly grow grapes and such in the deep roads.

Since the first FMA series never occurred, I don't know what you are talking about. Only Brotherhood exists.

The 2003 version was literally a "Here, enjoy this while we work on the manga" for the FMA fans.

I read some on FanFiction.net. There's quite a few interesting stories about the Dark Brotherhood. "Lucien's Luck" stood out as a good one.

If you use the search option there for 'Dark Brotherhood', you'll find a plethora of stories with basic summaries of the tales. Short, lengthy, one shot - all kinds.

Nice. I saw an interesting one where a vampirelord head of the dark brotherhood tried opening a branch in Ferelden and ended up conscripted by Duncan, and boy was she pissed, not to mention she had to deal with the discrimination against elves, and even more so because she was a dark elf.

I think you'd like it.

Cool. You remember the name, by chance?

There's actually a really nice (but short) story about Merrill talking with a romanced Hawke about what her vallaslin represents. If I can find it, I'll let you know the name.

Not off the top of my head, but it's in the crossover section of Elder Scrolls and dragon Age.

Gracias. I liked the Vampire Lord option for my Telvanni Mage-Lord, and I'm curious to see how that would work with a serious Grey Warden like Duncan.

The slightly humor story I was talking about was: "Of Beards and Elven History."

You wound me.

Frankly, I think the rationale in the condemnation of all mages for the actions of a few Magisters could be applied to humans, although I think the same people who are willing to point that incident out as evidence against mages would be loathe to do the same if applied against humanity.

Well, not quite. It wasn't by virtue of being human that they were able to breach and desecrate the Golden City. They needed to use magic to do so.

But humans supposedly didn't have magic, until they learned the secrets from the elves and then used that knowledge to destroy the ancient elvhen civilization. Pretty much all the lore of everywhere points to humans just being flat-out dicks.

Magic is just a tool, it doesn't get a say in how it's used. It was "the hubris of man" that brought the darkspawn.

Except that the Imperium allows Elven Magisters ._.

So that logic really doesn't apply, That line of thought doesn't work.

City elves live in the Dales; they outnumber the humans, apparently. I don't see why those elves and the Dalish clans couldn't work together to emancipate the kingdom so it can be independent again.

Probably already mentioned and I apologize for bringing it back, but the CE/Dalish dynamic does fascinate me.

Reasons it might work:

1. Us against them/enemy of my enemy is my friend mentality

Reasons it wouldn't work

1. CE are Andrastian and suspicious of mages

2.  Dalish at least claim to be the ruling class of the dales, I don't see CE seeding authority to the Dalish

3. Dalish aren't exactly going to give up their keepers

4. Prejudices: Dalish according to the lore look down on CE as weak and to be pitied and as people who  are not even true elves.  City elves vary between fear and respect of the dalish.

I just don't see the Dalish and CEs being able to work together in a cooperative manner. What I think we will see occur is the CEs have their rebellion and the Dalish proceed down the path indicated in Masked Empire and the two basically occur independent of each other.
