Both, I believe. Their Rite gives them resistance, their focus the ability to enchant things extremely well.

As long as they don't spend too much time in it's presence. I don't think the tranquil have the same resistance as the dwarves who live underground and handle lyrium. According to the codex, "Even though dwarves have a natural resistance, raw lyrium is dangerous for all but the most experienced of the Mining Caste to handle. Even for dwarves, exposure to the unprocessed mineral can cause deafness or memory loss. For humans and elves, direct contact with lyrium ore produces nausea, blistering of the skin, and dementia. Mages cannot even approach unprocessed lyrium. Doing so is invariably fatal."

Does that mean templars could use unprocessed lyrim as a weapon against mages?

Then again that would require something that could use lyrim as a projectile...

I suppose so. But a mage could just make a shield to bounce it off. Proximity wouldn't necessarily damage the mage, but only physical contact with it would.

Lob's quote says just approaching it is fatal so I'm not sure it'd need to hit them.

This has what to do with what i wrote exactly?

Seems you went on an Imperium Tangent.

What it has to with it? The Tevinter holds a place in Dwarven culture that the chantry can never replace. Tevinter have sent aid where Chantry was sleeping. The Chantry and dwarves had a business contract for Lyrium and I think that's over now. They are either seeling directly to mages, Templars, neither, or both.

Funny you mention that. During several thousands years of alliance the Dwarves and tevinter had two disagreements in total and that was one of them. They are long past it. There is no need try, all you have to do is go read some Dwarven lore and history now. one disagreement in every thousand year is very impressive alliance if you ask me.

David Gaider explained that ONLY the tranquil and dwarves are somewhat safe from effects of Lyrium and that is why the tranquil are the best enchanters because they can spend so much more time than anyone else with Lyrium and work on best and time-consuming enchantments. It has nothing to with "discipline of the mind" or anything else. The Tranquil fail to think logically most of the time.

The Dwarves whole shtick in dealing with the surface peoples is that they befriend everybody they can, regardless if those people are sworn enemies. The Dwarves' oldest remaining ties are with the Imperium, but today World of Thedas says they are also the only nation that maintains genuine friendship with Orlais: who are Tevinter's greatest non Qunari rivals.

In ancient times they also helped the Avvar in their wars with the Imperium, despite being allies of the same. And the fact that Cal'hadash gave shelter to ancient elves who escaped the fall of Arlathan (also enemies of the Imperium) is also the reason Kal'Sharok wiped them out.

Still, it never hurts to befriend all, but the lore clearly states that there is an on-going alliance between Dwarves and Tevinter. They've sent aid to each other several times, be it resource or army. They only do this for their closest allies, Tevinter and grey wardens. They only trade with those who they "befriend". Its likely they would probably kick Hero of Ferelden out if he was asking for aid and not a grey warden. I do think Dwarves should change but right now this is how it is.

The bold part was what I was talking about, two incident in several thousand years. Comparing it to other alliances of Thedas, its an impressive one.

Its a game damn it. I was laughing out loud when I was committing genocide on GTA. Its funny when you mention something without checking its background. The topic of usually irrelevant.

Yeah there is an alliance between Orzammar and Tevinter, but also between Orzammar and Tevinter's enemies. And there is a long history of that too. My point is they haven't always been the most reliable of allies.

Huh, maybe those "Video games make people psychopaths" people were right after all.

However...

So you laugh when the elves are massacred, but get all up at arms for what the Templars do?

If you ask me none of the alliances in Thedas are reliable. In comparison I find this one impressive. For example Dwarves sent aid to a Tevinter city during a blight and their aid was the only reason it survived. And as far as I know Grey Wardens were not even involved. I believe it was 4th blight and the city of Marnas Pell.

Since DA is more serious you need to look at the bigger picture. Tevinter was at war with Arlathan. By taking a look at history of war at Thedas, the old or new ones, its the same. What did Orlais did to Ferelden? I think you need to know the real meaning of war.

Yes everyone who played GTA are psychopaths, you heard it here first. Because there is no way to play that game without committing genocide.

You didn't answer my point? If you are accepting of it, why do you complain when people suggest doing it to the mages?

And I never said everyone who plays GTa are such. Don't put words in my mouth.

I don't complain when people suggest doing it to the mages, lol where are you getting that from. I might debate it as its a forum and its one reasons of its existence. If they have the power to do it to the mages, by all means. I'd like to see them close Veil tears that only magic can close.

And you did imply that. "Don't put words in my mouth" does not save you. People indeed laughed when they killed in GTA and you said "Huh, maybe those "Video games make people psychopaths" people were right after all." Its quite obvious what you meant.

It is not praise to say someone may be, as in not even surely, right. Otherwise we'd be praising everything. And I will not apologize to appease someone who laughs as they kill people in a video game.

S'okay :) It is just slightly possibly that I'm a bit insane... I laughed like crazy whenever my Krogan headbutted someone to death and then went "Ha! You're dead!" for weeks back when I still played ME3 MP

I don't need apology nor anything for that matter from someone who judges individuals based on the things they do in video games.

I am still not unconvinced you cannot induce Lyrium resistance alchemically or through magic.

After all you can have magics that induce spell resistance and magical resistance, why not solid magic?

This is a good point.
