You could, at the very least, be a little more subtle in your double standard.
You're welcome to think that protecting people from an unjust system is a double standard.
What did Merrill actually do? I mean what has she personally done to someone that is 'immoral' or 'evil'? You'd lot have me believe that she's Adrian's elven cousin.
Do exactly.....she dabbles in blood magic more then I prefer and other then that, her personality just annoys the dickens out of me. I like plenty of dalish, but can't bring myself to like Merril anymore then I can bring myself to like Zevran. It has nothing to do with their race or their actions, I just don't like their characters.
The Dales belong to Orlais, though.
Just like Ferelden was for over a century, but that changed when people rose up and fought for their freedom. If the player has the opportunity to help emancipate the Dales from Orlesian occupation, I'll certainly take that route.
I hate to tell you this, Mercury, but you do realize I'm not the only person participating in this debate, right?
You certainly kept dragging her back into the discussion. I guess I should've stopped responding to it.

I responded to posts that were directed at me. Anyone can easily peruse the previous pages to see that this is the case.

Dear Maker, are you doing this on purpose?
The double standard is that you accept Merril interfering in the business of other races because she believes it to be right but you'd call a Templar, who went after a Dalish Keeper because he believes it to be the right thing to do, a monster.
This has nothing to do with your perception of the Circle system.
I say again:
Ya'll are getting seriously too worked up about each others opinion of one character.
One of ya'll see her as having faults, the other sees her as being ready for sainthood, unlike me , you both like her. Get over it.
You're welcome to think that protecting people from an unjust system is a double standard.
Thing is, you can say the Templars protect mundanes from magocracies like Tevinter and nutjobs like Quentin.

They can also see where each one you responded I was pointing out the discussion about her weren't relevant to the topic at hand. In other words, I was responding to you but pointing out that continuing the discussion further was pointless.

Protecting people, whether it's an elven mage from one of the clans or runaway Circle mages who simply want to live their lives in freedom, isn't comparable to capturing and subjugating mages in an oppressive system.
This has nothing to do with your perception of the Circle system.
Actually, it does.

So you wanna fight another war while trying to fix the veil tears?
Dear Maker, are you doing this on purpose?
Yes. Yes he is.
Thing is, you can say the Templars protect mundanes from magocracies like Tevinter and nutjobs like Quentin.
I don't see anything to indicate that society would emulate Tevinter without the Templar Order, and I don't recall the templars stopping Quentin, who is implied to be from the Circle of Starkhaven (according to Gaspard's note). In fact, a "nutjob" like Quentin can also be seen in Huon, who lost his mind after a decade of captivity in the Circle of Kirkwall.
Not really disproving my point is he?
The funny thing is there are eight people who are uber active and defend Templars, no one else. It warms my heart when i see pro mages out number pro templars ten to one.
That said again you guys hate Merril because of the side she chooses and I can never agree with that.

Yes, yes it is.
You think keeping mages away from the Circle protects people, I think keeping mages in the Circle protects people.
So you wanna fight another war while trying to fix the veil tears?
If it means an end to the starvation, servitude, rapes, and purges of the elves, then absolutely. Having a place where the elves also don't suffer from religious intolerance would be nice, too.

Fair enough.

You do know Merril can side with the Templars and help Annul the Circle, right?

Merrill is still a pro-mage apostate who uses blood magic for several years prior, however, which was the point.

My but we paint with a broad brush.......
I actually don't think either of your sides actually outnumber the other. I can only name a handful I would truly consider pro mage either.

just posted a video about that actually.

Pro Mage?
Funny thing considering the context depends entirely on the PC if those sentiments EVER become more then mere words huh?
