I find the lack of mention on any big city we will be visiting disturbing...does this mean there will be big cities for us to visit in DA:I

DA:O had  Orzammar and Denerim

DA:A had   Amaranthine

DA:2 had   Kirkwall

DA:I  ????

I'm pretty sure we'll be visiting Val Royeaux, and maybe Denerim if we go to that part of Ferelden.

Also, if we venture to Nevarra, probably a major city there. Hopefully.

I've been known to make the radical prediction all we'll get is a sliver of Val Royeaux and The Dales and it'll otherwise "just" be our main keep and culturally-flavored keeps we take for ourselves all over the lands.

Generally people scoff and tell me I'm nuts, but I can definitely see it happening.

Actually thats exactly what I think is going to happen as well. Still wish we will get a big city to propoerly visit and explore..

It's been a while ago, but Jeff convinced me to share his views on the subject. Well, a JeffZero's comments on it, anyway. There's no telling that was actually said by Jeff himself.

Also, of all the cities in the DA universe, the most likely we're going to see in my eyes in the Black City. Keep in mind I said 'see', not 'visit', though that's extremely likely to me as well.

Well the OXM magazine says we're getting five regions, so maybe a city hub for each region.

Orlais: Val Royeaux

Ferelden:Denerim

The Dales: Halamshiral

Nevarra: Nevarra City

Free Marches: Starkhaven or Kirkwall

Wasn't there an article or something that said there wouldn't be a big city like Denerim in DA:I? I remember reading it and feeling quite disappointed.

This I suspect. It'll be the sub-regions within the f\ve "overmaps"

I've hyperbole in articles about this game before. Vivienne's lisp, anyone? Don't trust the articles.

Anyway, even if there is no "city hubs," I don't see how that has to be a bad thing. Don't diss it 'till you've tried it.

Indeed. I have many JeffZerobordinates, typing from proxy JeffZeroccounts, spreading JeffZeroism in a sort of JeffZerodoctrination Theory if you believe the press.

If I recall the keeps in each larger area are to act as hubs.

The OXM magazine states we'll visit some major cities like the capital cities in Nevarra and Orlais. The Gamestar magazine stated the opposite.
From some shots in the Discover the DA World i doubt we won't see some cities.

I think a major city in each region would be to much to ask from the devs. Given how much time and resources they require(i am guessing) . But maybe one or two cities like DA:O (denerim and orzammar) wouldnt be such a bad idea. It will be interesting to see how large cities and their population are dealing with the current cataclysm of the fade tears...

I think we will see Val Royeux.  Just from the fact that we have been hinted at that there will be Orlesian balls and the survey made reference to the Inquisitor being invited to the Palace in Val Royeux for a ball by the Impress.

Even then there could be a possibility that we may not see all of Val Royeux maybe a small part of it rest being closed of. You never know..any lack of concrete information on the issue really troubles me.

We didn't see all of Denerim.

Actually, I haven't played a RPG yet where you traveled around the world that truly had any area where you saw all of a great city.

I've learned never to assume seeing a sliver of something means I get anywhere near the rest of said something, yeah. Just because the first two Dragon Age games never employed much of an "instance-based" approach to locations doesn't automatically mean the third game won't either.

There's a lot of ground to cover this time and several "hubs" (as Mike Laidlaw himself referred to them) in the way of keeps the Inquisition acquires and can interact with. Regardless of the negative reaction which may well come thereafter, if the developers believed while assembling the game world it was a good idea to segment cities in order to present event-based settings as a means of offsetting the substantial workload associated with concocting a livelier set of wilderness locations, that's what we'll end up seeing.

Several things have added up to lead me to believing this will be the case, including a history with BioWare location sizzle reels, the recognition of a trend of no discussion on city exploration whatsoever, the choice to call keeps "hubs" and the tiny fragment of civilization we've been shown versus everything else.

There *are* other possibilities here and there is *of course* the possibility I'm totally mistaken. Maybe come E3 we'll see a sprawling, fully-exploitable city and everyone can breathe easy on this front. I doubt it meself.

In regards to the last post of the first page, I should note that when I use the word "fully" I speak in relative terms, yeah.

We have seen artwork of the fountain area in Val Royeaux.

That's great and all, but it still doesn't solidify anything.

I don't mean to spread a doctrine of pessimism with my thoughts on city likelihood, but I'm exceptionally believe-it-when-I-see-it here, because I feel there's ample reason to suspect something may have been tweaked in this element.

My bad...I may not have phrased it corretly...what i meant was that we did see quite a large part of the city. We did see orzammar a lot of it though....
