Well freedom of speech means I'm also free to not be racist, which I'd honestly prefer.

I'd rather people tell me when I'm being offensive. I'm a part of a marginalised group myself, and I know how much it can hurt when people throw certain words around without thinking.

Hurting other marginalised people is the last thing I want to do.

Yeah sure, sorry I just felt bad for you for a moment there.

That's not a free pass to say whatever you want to whoever you want.

You know, I would actually love it if it was, so people would be free to speak their mind. But nevermind.

I thought you were free to say whatever you wanted (long as it wasn't something that would cause a panic "fire" in a crowded theater for instance)

You just don't have any right to any shielding from the results of what comes out of your mouth.

I.E. stay stupid **** people can and will openly mock/respond to it.

it actually has to do with the government, so.....

God I hope so. One note characters can get really tiresome after a while.

I think there will be more to Vivienne than just the mage issue, or even her Orlesian fashion. I think the companions have always been fairly well-written, even if they held certain views I strongly opposed. I'm sure there could also be some common ground with Vivienne for an Inquisitor who disagrees about the mages.

Sure, if this were an open forum with no rules or regulations of it's own. It's not, and even if the countries where such things are claimed, it's still not legal to say whatever you want whenever you want. Freedom of Speech is complicated, and it definitely shouldn't be used to defend every statement you make.

Aren't rights just illusionary allowances the government gives in a form of bribery to keep people from questioning the limits a government can and cannot have in a more realistic fashion, eclipsing the fact that social structures and hierarchy exist mostly in the mind and instead convince others that there is some metaphysical force of nature that requires things function in a certain way with a structured and ever present government, or else people will have no means of knowing what is right and wrong, even by using their best judgements?

Everybody indeed has different judgments. Every persons right and wrong are different without a system.

Oh I know. (thus my horrible example of fire in a crowded theatre). And true freedom of speech is not freedom to say certain things (as many people who lost their jobs cause stupid tweets could testify xD) But yeah even if you could say whatever that doesn't give you any right to freedom from reprisal.

Rights are not given to the people by the government. But by the PEOPLE to the government.

I'm not worried one bit about Vivienne. She's good.

No. This thread is done. It's already a duplicate thread (though it's a good thing the actual Vivi thread wasn't polluted with this discussion) so highly doubt any dev will bother trying to clean it up.

Everybody indeed has different judgments. Every persons right and wrong are different without a system.

But that assumes that people have no ability to communicate, debate, and cooperate with one another. For example, they could discuss what they feel is the best strategy to use at the time, and when something major comes up, they can discuss changing the plan accordingly to accommodate that change in variables. Discussions on who is leader and possible arguments of that nature can be broken down by the simple fact that there need not be a set leader for every scenario, you can have alternating leaders whose skill sets allow them better coordinating ability under different circumstances. A government system tries to trick you into thinking things are fixed and stationary, that they do not change or require lots of time to change, or the whole system and humans ability to communicate and rationalize collapses.

You are a fool if you think the government can't take your rights away with a simple statement of "Well they don't count anymore."

The government giveth, the government taketh away.
