No the Romances are not the most prominent feature but relationships are a large theme in the game. Romances are an extension of those relationships.This is especially so when we get to Mass Effect 3 where we have Cortez talking about his husband, Garrus and Tali hooking up (if not romanced), Traynor's interest in EDI, and Joker and EDI's relationship. You oversimplified my argument. Also, I wasn't talking about just Mass Effect specifically. I was talking about the overall depiction of violence versus sex and how they are each integral themes when it comes to the human existence but the former is treated as less taboo than the latter.

 

EDIT: When I said heavily featured theme, I should have just said "theme" period as to not exaggerate. Romance is a theme in the game. Potty time is not.

I like how this thread took to the position that ME3 needed more nudity, and then became a complaint thread comparing nudity between different love interests, rather than taking the position that ME needed to tone down the violence (less exploding heads or achievements for burning people alive maybe), or that ME should at least properly depict the effects of trauma.

 

Well, the first to clauses are related in the fact that if one character is going to be tastefully nude, then why not all characters, even if they are in different scenes. 

 

The part about the violence is a lost cause because at this point, there is no going back, we've already seen heads explode, so turning down the gore will be seen as a step back. I for one would like a balance in the two: however explicit you make your violence is how explicit you make your intimate scenes.

Hell, we had more nudity in ME1 with Ashley and Liara. People can decide for themselves if it was tasteful or not. As far as I'm concerned, Bioware took a step back from it in ME2 and then ME3 was a mixed bag with Liara being nude and Shepard showering fully clothed with Traynor in underwear.

I personally didn't care much either way about the depictions of gore and sexual content through the games.

 

Now, that's not to say I liked it. It's just that it didn't matter much to me through my playthroughs. I mean in ME3 when you decapitate an enemy, or a headshot causes a skull to go boom the most you see is some blood splatter and a character model keel over. Do I think it's too much? It could be worst, which I would have a problem with. I'm OK with blood and limb loss to a certain extent but when you get past that you're starting to get a bit far (mutilation, torture, etc). So for that, ME was fine (maybe aside from the crew death you see in ME2 Collector Base, that's just yuck). Things like CoD MW2's 'No Russian' are the only flat-violence scenarios I just don't want to play, and won't. ME never really made you do those things though so I couldn't complain about that.

 

In terms of sexual content... I mean, it's 4-5 minutes of a cutscene near the end of the game. To me, not a big deal. It could just be that I like the lead-up in the relationships in games and getting to know characters, but whatever. The scene at the end is more to just say 'they did the do' for me more than anything, and I feel like I'm the only person who would prefer just 5 minutes of FShep and LI just cuddling in the games...

 

That said, would/could they push the envelope? Well, it can't get much worse (violence-wise) because I feel that there is not a lot of verticality to climb without intentionally being a 'gore-porn'. That's not what ME is though, so I would say that's not going to change. COULD they and would they get away with it? Yes.  WOULD they? I don't think so. Sexual content... That isn't going to change. I don't particularly care about it. I mean, I think I would be more concerned if I was playing the game and then suDDENLY BLUE NIPPLES (Of course it wouldn't be such a surprise... Would it?).

Ummm, just thought about an orphan getting adopted by an Asari when I read that, I doubt that was the intended though and that ti was very, very differently(likely waifu related), but that would be weird aswell...
If that kid was human, what would other "human kids" say if they heard about blue milk... Blueberry milk? We get cocomilk, your parrents are weird.
I wonder if that milk would make you a biotic if you survive growing up with that diet.. Then you growup joining Thessias Bioticball team.

She needed someone and she was very hungry!

Dr Astia: According to my omnitool she appears to be a biotic human, so she will probably be fine, her physiology is adapted to the Eezo.

Asari "Mom": So she will be alright then?

Dr Astia: She seems very healthy, the Eezo levels do seem unusualy high for a child this young and with her bodymass. Make sure you feed her enough, human children, especialy young biotics got a ravenous appetite.

Asari "Mom": You know, I found out I was sterile 200 years back, it was such a shock, I always wanted a girl that I could teach how to play Bioticball.

Dr Astia: I'm sure she will do great, remember that human biotic ball team that won the galactic championships?

Asari "Mom": Yeah, it was a shame they all got killed by that Reaper attack on the Arena after the award ceremony, strangely noone mentions it in the news.

Asari "Mom": At the arena, I'm a bioticball fan remember! The Reaperforces killed most of the people but the Bioticball players managed to distract them for a while allowing some of us to escape the onslaught.
Then an N7 team showed up looking for the ball and killed the Reaperforces, I'm thinking intel had been smuggled inside the ball. Then they just left us there, the Reaperforces were however dead and they seemed to have lost itnerest after the N7 team left.

Dr Astia: Take care of her, I have a feelign she will become a great ballplayer! Just remember, she will need a lot of nutrients and attention! They growup so fast.

And pushed beyond normal limitations by the other kids who taunted her that "humans" can't float! She, however, learned how to!
