And the solution is to simply avoid such scenes in the future.
Simple and clean.
Why?

I think it's better to actually take advantage of closeups/partial shots than to remove it entirely. This exact scene could play out exactly the same way with zero clothes and still leave the audience seeing nothing but midriffs, and shoulder shots.

But this is the problem: why is exploding someone's head acceptbale for an adult but not a pair of breasts? Why not censor both?
Maybe it's the fact I live in Europe, but what is this adversion to nudity? It's baffling.

You are obsessed with explicit sex. I made a point of not saying that in the OP; you keep bringing it up. Why?

That is also a good point, but I suspect a boat that ha slong sailed. But an exploding head (or scenes of genetic expermentation) is acceptable for a mature audience.
Edit to add: I understand the cultural impact of a pair of breasts in America (ironic given the size of their porn industry) or, god fobid, a penis but Bioware sell to a global audience of supposed adults.
Actually, now I recall, wasn't the Witcher 2 altered for the US release?
Witcher 1 actually.
But again saying "but we get graphic violence" is not a good argument for graphic nudity. Tasteful or no.
Asking for tastefully handled violence or sex is another thing. But given how objectifying some of the outfits are in Mass Effect (Miranda and Samara to cite two particular examples) makes me think they have a way to go handling clothed scenes before we can move on to outright nudity.

Who said anything about explicit sex. If I want to play a hentai game i'll go play one. No we are talking about Bioware's new found aversion to nudity (or in ME3's case selective nudity)

That was it, Witcher 1. I agree with the fact that there is a way to go (as I noted about Bioware in the OP) but my point is that a game rated as mature you can reasonably expect perhaps some graphic violence (like in a film), but equally you can expect nudity (like in a film), obviously plot dependant.
This game is not supposed to be played by children; neither is a mature rated film supposed to be watched by children.
Dammit, I was supposed to be carrying on with DA:O before the missus got back.

I don't think it's necessarilly reasonable to expect either. Mature means (or should mean, imo) that it contains adult content. Be it images or themes. I dont think an M label automatically obligates nudity or graphic violence. Just that it handles such things in a mature manner.
I mean, I'd find dealing with an unplanned pregnancy on the Normandy way more mature than seeing Liara's blueberries ![]()

I'll bet it's that lady sitting in the mess hall. She's been having dinner with that other crewman the entire game.

Yes, that would have been interesting. But nayway, the Mature rating syas:
MATURE
Content is generally suitable for ages 17 and up. May contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.
http://www.esrb.org/...tings_guide.jsp
So it seems reasonable, based on that rating, on what to expect in my opinion. Of course, you can deal with adult themes without having extreme violence or gore, which is generally quite refreshing, but then the game would not be rated as it is.

May contain isn't Must contain.
And at any rate, having them just to have (or just because it already has) an M rating doesn't mean it will be tastefully done. Ask for tastefullness first. Then ask them to push that envelope.

After Grand Theft Auto 5, is there any risks for BioWare to take anymore, or boundaries to push? They go further than that, and it's AO.
Unless you mean pushing their own boundaries in future games, in which case I view GTA 5 and Witcher 2 has open doors to other game developers to not be scared about nudity in games. The Mass Effect 1 "controversy" was many years ago, I don't see it as a problem anymore.
I'm not sitting here demanding nudity in games but when the situation demands it, it looks foolish to not see it, take previous Grand Theft Autos and the clothed strip clubs, something they changed in 5. Kind of like Dragon Age and their clothed ****** houses, it just looks bad, why put in a ****** house at all if you won't go all the way with it.
As for sex(or romance) scenes, I don't think they're needed at all, and I never liked them in Mass Effect.

There are countless movies, games and other works of fiction that show plenty of violence and little sex.
This is not a 'BioWare attitude.' Nor it is 1950's. That's just ridiculous. It's the overwhelmingly norm in fiction in the United States and likely Canada.
So if you're going to attempt to address it, trying to pin in on BioWare is just silly.
As is the idea that being 'treated like an adult' means being shown nudity.
I like how you aren't even trying to hide that it is you anymore David.
I bet it feels better to no longer be living a lie.

Can't really blame Bioware, this foolishness is endemic worldwide. Devil's advocate argument though, the innocent littleuns are more likely to be influenced by sex than violence. Unless they happen to be psychopaths, violence is something they won't actively engage in, sex is. I guess. I'm no child psychologist.
It's a funny one. I do find it bizarre that Liara's the only one that got a nude model, and everyone else showers and (going by the post-romance dialogue scenes) does the deed in their underwear. It seems kind of like it was a weird attempt to show more whilst not showing more, if you know what I mean. Instead of showing naked characters from the head up, they show the full body so you can see all the abs and curves and what have you, only they had to hide it in underwear...

You sorta ask for this by criticising the game not showing every sex act in extreme detail (I.e. fade to black) and clever use of camera angles because you will never be happy with anything other than hardcore pornography. Also, please note nudity and sex is not pornopraphy[sic]
That will happen as soon as horny teenage boys no longer make up the target demographic. If this is applied equally across both genders (i.e. let's see some penises out there) then i think that would not be so much of an issue.
