Isn't it in the rating system 'rules' somewhere that you can't show an erect male penis on screen.

Though it would make for a funny sex scene where Liara is saying "don't worry Shepard, it's just down to stress."

Shepard would just do his best Danny McBride impression and say that the system doesn't have enough resources to render the whole thing.

You sorta ask for this by criticising the game not showing every sex act in extreme detail (I.e. fade to black) and clever use of camera angles because you will never be happy with anything other than hardcore pornography.

That will happen as soon as horny teenage boys no longer make up the target demographic.

Well no, like david you are making an assumption based off your own bias. At no point did I say 'extreme detail', and to say I would only be happy with hardcore pornography is ridiculous. Conflating nudity and thus having to show everything is such a leap it's baffling.

As an example, the liara scene is well done in quite a few ways apart from the absurb lack of nipples and shep remaining in her underwear. It's even more ludicrous when you think liara is completely naked. It ends up that instead of enjoying the intimacy you end up with 'why is shep still in her underwear'.
The traynor scene is even worse.

Regards your point about teenage boys, you are supposed to be 17+ to play this. Able to marry, have kids and go shoot foreign people at the request of the government. Also I suspect the average age for a bioware game is higher and probably more split among genders.
We are not children. Although some of the responses make me wonder.

I agree with the sentiment Von, but unfortunately I don't see it coming to fruition. A good number of us across the pond relate nudity with sex. You also have to take into account the reaction of Fox News(and lets not elaborate too much on that subject)some years back about the romance scene in ME1.

I honestly thought this was going to be about Vega's voice again, like the old days...

this shot always bugged me for some reason. first time playing i was like, "really bioware? you have to show a closeup of her butt?" also, i could have sworn i heard a fart coming from the tv at this time.

on topic, violence and nudity in games never really concerned me though i will admit Traynor being in her undies while in the shower does look silly. like others have already said, they could make clever use of angles to not show anything like they do on tv.

Yeah as long as we keep getting treated to shots and outfits like that, I wouldn't be asking Bioware for more nudity.  Even if we got it, tt would likely just be treated as a joke; juvenile fan service like that shot of Miranda.

You complained about the use of fade-to-black and camera angles to hide features that would upset the censors, and it logically follows that you want media to not cut away from sex. If you want to maintain that fading to black or clever use of camera angles to avoid showing full frontal nudity is bad then you necessary have to admit that the only media you could find acceptable is pornography - or admit that your argument (fade to black is bad) is stupid.

So any sex scene (or should i say a scene with full frontal nudity) is pornography?

I guess that makes Game of Thrones porn then.

Well you Brits got rid of the Puritans and sent them over here. "Another religious group stirring up trouble? Send them to the colonies!" I blame England for this mess. Thus we get exploding heads and excessive violence = okay. Full frontal nudity =/= okay. Showering with clothes on = okay; Showering naked =/= okay. Having sex fully clothed = okay; Having sex naked (except for careful angles of alien) =/= okay. FShep and Traynor sleeping while wearing bras aka torture devices.

But closeups of Miranda's ass? They make her character into a joke.

People were stoned and beaten in the town square for being too sexy or showing too much skin back in the colonial days, so that should tell you all you need to know about why violence is accepted and sex is not in american fiction.

Yeah, but it's porn with a story worth following!

I'm not sure why, but for some reason the majority of Americans seems incredibly prude. European movies/games can include as much nudity as they want and still get a teen friendly rating. In the US you get an R or even X rating.

The Witcher 2 was named a few times, well it was made by a Polish studio.

Actually, I many time saw people and critics accusing GoT from being porn.

And in fact in some states "frontal nudity" is considered as threshold of pornography.

So does that just confirm it as a peculiary American thing compared to Europe?

Poor things :)

The weird thing is how over the top they seem to want to go with "sexy" - probably going to draw a bit of hate here but Miranda's design, and her outfit, are just ridiculous, not to mention the camera angles designed to show them off, but there's complete panic at the suggestion of a nipple. There's also the nudity vs. pornography argument that's come up a few times, there's a big difference between characters being nude because it's appropriate for the scene and showing them nude for eroticism.

Agreed, although they weren't exactly prudish when it came to certain parts of the banshees, were they.

I don't give a flying crap about the nudity thing. I'd be content with just a fade-to-black.

If I want nudity then I just look at my lady friend   who is real and looks better than the characters.

On the Trayner shower scene, I thought Trayner kept her underwear on as an invitation to Shepard to come in the shower and take the rest of her clothes off.

Is the "nudity as porn" really a question in GoT? Regardless of whether the nudity was appropriate or not, the scenes were quite obviously designed to be sexually arousing. I admit I haven't been watching GoT since the end of season 1.

Bioware could've had femshep removing her clothes while walking towards the shower and then say she's interested.

But wet insta-dry jump suits are all the rage in certain parts of the country.

I guess the deal is that parents buy M rated games for their 12 year olds, and then complain about the content, and a NC-17 rating is a death sentence as far as sales go. -- they have to go in "the back room" or in "Adult book stores."

But it's okay for monsters, unless one has a monster fetish.
