Different ways of playing with Infiltrator class?

I can think of several off the top of my head:
1) Stop being a coward with a sniper rifle and grab a shotgun. Claymore for one-shot kills.
2) Use Marksman with Tactical Cheat and a good automatic weapon.
3) Focus on power combos instead of weapon kills. While probably not the greatest example, here is a power-focused Infiltrator in action.
4) Ignore Cloak completely and try a playstyle without cloak. Any playstyle. Here is an example of a cloak-less Infiltrator using Energy Drain with a focus on Cryo.
5) Try for a melee spec and try to kill as many things as you can with melee. Like a Brute.
6) Use Flare and exploit Tactical Cheat to nuke everything with a decent cooldown and lots of power damage.

Also, what are your specs for the melee class? Or do you just use melee armour pieces?
Use Melee armor pieces.
Spec Fitness for Melee.
Use Fortification and spec it for Melee damage on purge.
Put the Omni Blade mod on a shotgun (requires Omega DLC).
Sabotage for Tech Vulnerability, as it will increase heavy melee damage which is good for tougher enemies.
Tactical Cloak for damage and melee damage.

Yeah running some sort of CQB / melee / shotgun infiltrator sounds like what you want to do.

As a bonus power try using lash. You will get a good laugh with it.

Some what related I guess. Is the Engineer's heavy melee also affected by the Tech Vulnerability evolution of Sabotage?

I know the Infiltrator's melee is. I am unsure about the Engineer. I have not tried it myself, and I have not seen anyone else try it. I suppose I could give it a go later today or tomorrow to see. I suspect it does, but the Infiltrator can just do it so much easier/better than the Engineer.

Shotgun Infiltrators have always been my preference when using a sniper rifle became rather tiresome. You could also try using various kinds of weapons, such as a heavy hitting weapon or a rapid fire weapon. Using an SMG can be rather enjoyable with an Infiltrator, especially when it has a high rate of fire.

Apologies for the late reply. I just tested this, and yes, the Tech Vulnerability of Sabotage will increase the damage of the Engineer's Heavy Melee.
I tested against a level 60 Cannibal. Heavy Melee only left the Cannibal with 6 bars of health. After a Sabotage, the Heavy Melee left the Cannibal with 2 bars of health before the backfire killed the Cannibal.

when running an infiltrator to nuke with flare, do you spec flare for damage or AOE?

I would recommend damage to really get the most out of it. You can get +90% from Damage Cloak and and another +10% to +35% from passive depending on your spec. And then if you want, you can get up to +50% with armor (Serrice Council + Umbra Visor) and up to +30% from Pistol or SMG Power Amplifier mod. Some squadmates can also give you additional power damage although that can be flaky.
I feel that I should qualify the above by saying I have never used Flare for any extended period of time. I just feel that Flare is built around having high power damage and should be supported as such.
