Considering the last we saw of him he wasn't anywhere near Kirkwall or even heading back there, that is rather unlikely. The comic takes place after the events of DA2, but before the interrogation by Cassandra.

But as you said, the interrogation takes place after the comic, and Cassandra interrogated him in Kirkwall. Fact is, Kirkwall is Varric and Cassandra's last known location.

We shouldn't assume that they would be there now.  It's been a couple of years and a lot has changed in Thedas.  If Varric and Cassandra have been working together off-screen since the interrogation, they've probably been searching the land for the Warden, Hawke and some answers.  I can see them being very busy bees.

 

I'm trying to track down the link, but I could have sworn that Word of Gaider/ Word of Mike stated that we will not be going back to Kirkwall at all.  I'll let you guys know if I find it.

Freaking Varric.... go to "The Cave", hes probably there, just clearing another infestation of Highway Men, Tal Vashoth or Giant Spiders  . Hawke does this so often it hurts.

We shouldn't assume it, I suppose, but there's no reason they couldn't have used it as a home base for their search though. It's where the majority of Varric's contacts are after all.

The only reason people have been thinking this is because of a picture that got released that had some Kirkwallish chains in it. While I am kind of really into Kirkwall as a place, I can't really see us going back there unless it's to examine the rubble. Unless Kirkwall itself has become the home of the Red Templars? 

 

We don't have a lot to go on to say for sure, anyway.

As some have said in other threads, the veil around Kirkwall was already weak, so one would assume a veil tear would be likely for the city.  Will we actually go there, though? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I never thought the chains reminded me of Kirkwall. <shrug>  From a lot of ancient Tevinter art I've seen, they seemed to have a chain fetish.  The symbolism, given that culture, makes sense.

It would be hard to destroy Kirkwall, though. It is buildt into the cliffs and all that.

I'm sad because we aren't going to Nevarra. I am much more interested in that nation than Orlais.

I wonder, though, with the Veil so thin in Kirkwall if it just is a crater at the end of the fade event. Maybe we don't go back to 'Kirkwall' because there is no more Kirkwall?

I thought it got confirmed that Nevarra was a location visited in Inquisition?
