Ahh but this is the chantry, the blight was stopped by a Mage but that didn't change the treatment if them outside of Fereldan.

The 4th Blight has lasted 12 years and was stopped with an elven Warden in the lead. Doesn't change a damn about treatment of elves.

Vivienne is power hungry.

What? I never disagreed with this.

who knows it may require the player to convice her that you are using it for good and not evil, (as long as you haven't used blood magic in a evil torchious way which I hope the NPC's can call you on)

That can certainly be a viable way to placate her potential distaste for the school. She still won't like or trust the Inquisitor using it however. There's no reason to believe that she's the trusting or forgiving type.

You'd wish. Even Orsino was a spineless worm.

Not even close to being true.

You see ANY other mage, let alone circle mage, standing up to Meredith? Going so far as to denounce her publicly on multiple occasions? If any of the other characters in DA II had half the courage that he did Meredith would have been called on her sh*t and made to answer. Instead they conspired in secret; hid like roaches and it got them nowhere.

Say what you want about him but don't pretend that the man doesn't have the quad of a Krogan.

Because of Hawke... They would succeed otherwise.

Orsino gave Meredith free reign to begin with. I hope you know, that Circle mage cannot be made Tranquil without an agreement of First Enchanter.

I kind of thought her intro description made it clear that Vivienne was more about keeping ahead than keeping with an ideological structure. All the cues made it seem like she was into the game and what most benefited her at the time, not into the Chantry as a belief system and maintaining it's power. I don't really understand where the idea comes from that she has strong faith or is specifically supportive of the Chantry/Circle for moral purposes. I think she's supportive of it because she's comfortable under it and the opposition isn't offering anything more comfortable than being the court mage.

I postulate that Vivienne is more than a phony social climber. Although she maybe power hungry, she strongly believes in the greater good.  I do not believe that Vivienne would have become the Enchanter to the Imperial Court of Orlais, personal advisor to the Empress (nor the First Enchanter) without strong belief in the higher cause.

During such chaotic times, it behooves those of us in power to aid in the restoration of peace and the establishment of order.

Vivienne allows nothing to stand in the way of what she desires—not those who claim she is a social climber, not those who seek to restrict her power, not even her fellow mages who would conscript her into a rebellion with which she disagrees. Vivienne fights to restore order in a world gone mad…

She takes great pride in her work, and her interactions with a certain unnamed Inquisition mage can be a little… explosive.

I rescind my previous statements.

Both individuals in the title are mages. One likely worse than the other. What would you have me do with a mage?

If Vivienne can heal, I will tolerate her. If not, I'm sending her back to the circle. If she resists, she'll be sent back in a box.

Orlais is strongly centered on playing their social climbing game, so I think it's a strong possibility that is primarily all you need to succeed there. I don't get the impression that Celene is a strongly religious character, either. I'm still not totally convinced Vivienne is strongly moral. Pretty much everything hints to me otherwise. That she has a problem with those restricting her power, her fixation on fashion and furs from "rare animals", her reputation as a social climber, her assigned "food" being ortolan bunting, which is a delicacy known for its cruel preparation. She just seems to very accurately represent Orlais and "the game" to me, from what we've seen.

Ah yes, the ''greater good'', I cringe every time I hear someone say that.

There's a difference between determined ambition and selling your body to the highest demonic bidder in order to learn a neat trick or two. Many people who say they are willing to do anything to get ahead and wont let anyone stand in their way, wouldn't go out andmurder their ccompetition. It's important to note there are many ways to interpret the statement, after all, wouldn't the risk of being exposed as a blood mage jeopardize her chances of climbing the ranks?

I don't think Vivienne will care. She's not pro-Chantry, she's just pro-Vivienne.

For all we know, she IS a blood mage.

let me consult my DA:II character development.

Q1 is the character a mage? Yes go to Q2 No go to Q3.

Q2  is the character weak or strong? Weak A1 Strong A2

Q3 Does this Character generally hate mages? Yes A3 No A4

A1 this pathetic mage is pitifully weak, Absolutely has to be made tranquil to stop it turning to blood magic. typical for mage scum this character has refused to accept what is right and in desperation has turned to blood magic, slay them before they become a dangerous Abomination.

A2 this character is a Dangerous Maleficar its true strength and hubris lies in its secret knowledge of blood magic, kill it before it brings forth legions of demons and twists the minds of other beings

A3 Congratulations this character is pure and righteous ready to rid the world of evil blood mages, place them in the highest available office

A4 sadly this poor mortals mind has been enslaved by an evil Maleficar, you should kill it immediately to send a message to its puppet master that we will not tolerate blood mages.

By DA:II standards Vivenne is most certainly a blood mage.
