In one of my Origins playthorughs, I ended things with Zevran, and then eventually moved on to Morrigan. Will the keep recognize my ended relationship with Zevran, as well as my continuing one with morrigan?

I don't think so, considering that the original games didn't do that. Romance is a flag with only a yes/no toggle.

That'd be great, and I hope so.

This. As far as I can remember, the flags only recognised whether or not your character was in a relationship with another. I don't believe it recorded previous breakups etc.

I heard that if you romanced Zevran as a guy in Origins, and eventually broke up with him, that he will stalk you in DA:I. He'll confront you and cry until his mascara starts to run. It won't be a pretty sight.

In they game you could. As soon as you started flirting with a different party member, the two party members would make you choose between them.

And then you had to choose, which flipped the person you broke up with flag to "FALSE" and they never acknowledge it again.

You're not allowed to ask these questions, and Bioware doesn't like it when you toy with their characters' feelings. I would expect BiowareMod01 coming to your front door, saar qamek in hand and his merry band of robots in tow, in a day or so. Nice knowing you OP!

My question is will breakups and new relationships affect party synergy both in and out of combat? Will a companion be over protective of another if they are in a relationship while in combat? Will one companion despise the other? We will find out on the new Bioware show " As Thedas turns".

They did have a state for breakup at least for some of the romances. I think I remember there being a "I'm sorry for breaking up u ok? xxx" dialogue option for at least some of them.
