Hi Aizen.

Currently there's 6 confirmed companions. Three females; Cassandra, Vivienne, and Sera. Three males; Varric, Solas, and Iron Bull.

Feathers is all but confirmed leaving possibly 2 completely unveiled.

The elves in DA2 were ridiculous, every time I saw one all I could see was a gigantic neck. They may have had a riveting story or been an awesome character but all I could see was a neck and even had the necks not been like that I would still hate Merrill she is such a moron she is like a child, I don't get how anyone can romance her it would be like romancing a child, and not a very smart child.

Qunari please. Imagine the Qunari Inquisitor and The Iron Bull clashing their horns for her.

Sera is still not officially announced, but I don't know if there will be any others. It could go either way at this point. I wouldn't be overly surprised if there is a 6/3 slant, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is one more female, either.

Personaly I hope its a elf and not a creepy on like merril. And they said the elf design will be diffrent right? I usually dont choose to be a mage but i will definalty be going all out for DAI so i must be a mage. I hope the next companion they show is a prettly elf girl

Marethari's death was her own doing.

I'm sorry but morbid curiosity demands I ask this, what apparent mission statement

Bioware is famous (or infamous) for being pioneers for equality between genders and sexual orientation. Things weren't ideal but they improved upon it and now it created some of the few games were you can play a female protagonist, have more than one token female in the group, and romance them with more depth. Same applies to LGB.

So their apparent mission statement is essentially continuing this trend.

It's the culture of the video game company. That is all.

If they do 6/3 gender slant, it might be because two males are mutually exclusive. The gender distribution in Origins actually is 6/3 if you count both Alistair and Loghain.

Seriously doubt it, if it was the case, they wouldn't write "9 companions" on the official site

Actually its 5/4 because Shale is a woman

It's still 9 characters in the game. I'm not sure there's any precedent that they wouldn't. Both of the other games had mutually exclusive characters, so it wouldn't come as a surprise at all if this one did, I'd think.

Shale was an extra DLC character that put the count to 10. We aren't getting a DLC character this time.

Not a major fan of the merrill/aerie/tali archetype. Excited about the rumoured look of Sera and hope she is more worldly.

It's still 9 characters in the game.

But when you advertise "Led a party chose from 9 unique, fully-realized characters", it's more than likely that you can indeed choose between 9 characters.

(I don't like mutually excusive characters)

I don't really like them either. I'm not especially FOR it. I just wouldn't be surprised if it happened again, since it has in the past two games.

I'll be happier if it doesn't, though, don't get me wrong.

Let us not cite older games like DAO as evidence..

If DA2 and ME3 were any indication, Bioware has improved greatly on the equal representation front.

I see no reason we shouldn't give them the benefit of he doubt.

There's no mission statement, it's just that Bioware is one of the more equal opportunity games on the market and there's not exactly a lot of competition. Bioware's equality has actually regressed the more games it produced - boobs and butts are always bigger in sequels, Shepherd managed to lose weight but also get a boob job and a whole new face decided via beauty contest by the third game. Bioware's still the most progressive company out there, but I don't think they have ever stated any commitment to equality. If they had, they wouldn't hide away the female Hawke/Warden/Inquisitor in advertising like some kind of dirty secret they don't want potential customers to know about. There is no mission statement, just a lot of cool people in key positions who do their best to make a good game for everyone, but they don't control everything.

So there's no guarantee that the male to female companion ratio will be equal.
