Sorry if this has been asked before, but my search turned up nothing.
Is there a language filter for ME2? It may be a little grating to other people within earshot of my Xbox.
I can deal with it if there isn't, but it'd be a nice convenience to have. I also realize that it'd be hard since all the dialogue is voiced...it would be immersion breaking to have "bleeps" or even momentary breaks in the speech where the offending word was. In any case, anybody know if there is/isn't one?

I don't think there is, but I could be wrong. Mass Effect 2 has ALOT more bad language compared to the first so I would not be surprised if they implemented such, however since everything is voiced and would most likely have to be a "bleep" or just "blank" out the sound then...I kinda doubt it.

ah, i can see it now...
"AHHHH ****, MY LEG!" converts to, "Twiddle-dee-dee! That will require a tetanus shot!"

I really doubt it; BioWare's target audience are young adults accustomed to that sort of language anyway.

Unfortunetly not.
Even Epic who love their swearing had the decency to add one to their games.

I think this came up when the first Subject Zero vid was released a few months back and the Devs said there wasn't going to be one but I don't have a link. But I am in the same boat you are and wish there was.

Tell them to suck it. They're grown men and women so they should be able to take it as such. If they're not adults then they should not ever in a million years see you playing the game anyway so you'd best never play it around them.

All right, thanks for the replies! Thankfully not a big deal, just more of a minor point of possible friction.

Is there really that much cursing? I've only heard Jacob's 'insightful' comments on the Council.

Look at the live xfire video footage, a merc drops a few words including an f-bomb.
I agree this would be a useful feature, but i think i will be all right without it. I just hope they don't take such a strong approach to ME3. Like someone said above, even Epic Games had a filter for GoW and UT3.

Yeah its the same issue here. I can deal with language, gratuitious language annoys me though. But my parents almost burst into flames about it and it's damn hard to play GTA4 on the TV without being yelled at to turn the sound either off or as good as off.

BW DEVs confirmed in some thread on the old forums that to include a language filter would ruin the RGP immersion and they would never do that. Then to have actors contracted more time to create a more mild dialogue would be financially unwise since that funding could be put to better use either developing or marketing the game and future DLC.
Was it considered? Yes. Was it approved? Nope.

That's back in December and it's the oldest page I could find that discussed the issue. Not the one with the DEV confirmation (unfortunately) but still accurate enough to show that this is hardly the first time this topic has come up and one that's been on the forums for months if not years now.

Just curious, since I honestly don't watch many DVDs anymore or go through all the menus when I do watch them, but is this sort of thing common for R-rated movies? In the US at least, an M-rated video game has the same age rating as one of those.

Retarded answer. Game is rated Mature. Those under 17 cannot buy it. If parents buy it for them, they're every bit as retarded.

That's what they hope for. The gaming market is ranged from 7 to 30ish. To not market to teenagers is bad business. You can put whatever rating you want on and still bank the majority of your player base to be kids. COD:MW2 anyone?

Seriously. I was surprised at the amount of squeeky voices i heard on MW2. I don't know how these kids fool their parents into buying the game.

I got a really nice surround sound headset for christmas. I can turn the volume all the way down on the t.v. and still be able to hear. I can't bother people.
