I am finding that the online tutorials are vague and are not really helping me and being that I am in college I do not have all the time in the world to wrestle with them.

I am trying to get the following files such as models, textures, and audio in and out of dragon age and into 3d studio max and Photoshop. I have managed to extract some stuff like textures from erf’s but they come out as files that can’t be opened by my software like Photoshop or 3ds max. This is my first time doing this so I need a simple straight forward answer.

Models

I currently have some weapons done and partway done. They just need to be textured in max. I need to get weapons out of Dragon Age so I can scale stuff. I can convert stuff to and from MMH.xml’s, but I need MMH.xml’s first.

Textures

I have gotten as far as dds’s from erf’s but Photoshop can’t open those.

Audio

I have not attempted

there is a dds plugin for photoshop, do a search for tzpan's tools in the projects section to find out how to get fbx files from compiled models.

You need a *.msh (Mesh) a *.mmh (ModelHierarchy) and a *.mao (MaterialObject) for a full working model. The first holds the actual model with texture (UV) and weight information, the second stores stuff like the hierachy (bonesystem) of the file, modelnames, etc. and the *.mao describes which material type the model will use and what textures.

*.msh's are found in "modelmeshdata.erf" *.mmh's in "modelhierarchies.erf", *.mao's in "materialobjects.erf".

If you want to open and save *.dds files in Photshop just google "nvidia dds plugin" and I while your'e at it I'd recommend to get the "Windows Texture Viewer" from there as well so you don't have to open Photoshop every time you want to take a look at a dds.

No experience with audio...

Edit:
As Chewy said you'll need an converter to get stuff into Max. Import *.msh's if you just want just the models and *.mmh's if you also need bones and skin modifiers...
