The rogue as almost perfect as is. A litte bit more power fr ranged attacks, and I think it is a winner on all fronts.

What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?
I dislike

the stealth, I know that sounds strange allow me to explain. You have to spend 5 talent points in each slot in order to become more and more stealthed. That's five slots you could use on actual dps. 75 percent of the time you walk into fights unexpectedly not like you can use it much.

I'd like it if the rouge stealth was one talent spec.

I like

I like how fast they are, that they are able to duel weild. Stack enough 50 with Dex and 50 Cunning and you should watch as they tear into foes like it was the last thing they do. I really enjoy watching them fight really quickly, stabbing and gutting and blocking blows. Was interesting to see the rouge do that

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?
If there is anything overpowered on rouge I wouldn't mention it for fear of the infamous Nerf that you did to Blizzard in the past. However I will say I think the crit backstab are underpowered. Just my two cents, then again my rouge could be fighting so fast I don't see the foes health drop

What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?
I stack 50 cunning and 50 dex, with 20 strength. I really enjoy the backstab. Their are not really that many to enjoy. My least favorite would have to be the feign death, it doesn't do any actual dps, like you faint to redirect arrgo. It's a good choice but not for a rogue

I personally think that the fact that only rogues can pick locks/treasure chests was a little backwards, especially considering that everybody can steal. You'd naturally think that swiping pocket-change off of someone without them noticing it(besides which, the "revenge" random encounter is a bit ridiculous too, how would they know it was YOU specifically that ripped them off?) requires more skill in sneaking about than taking all the time in the world to pick a lock. Maybe it's just me, but I guess I was just spoiled by Oblivion that way. In any case, suspension of disbelief only goes so far.

Dual-wielding is nothing unique to the rogue, aside from the backstabs. I personally would've liked a single-dagger tree that places an emphasis on raw single-target damage. Maybe even a chance-based instant kill move.

Archery is something I never really got into, but it seemed almost pathetic in how weak it was. Though I'm playing a PS3 console version, and I believe the dexfix hasn't hit there yet(still waiting 2 months and counting for that btw), so maybe my experience is simply limited(not my fault though).

However, the biggest problem is that rogues are completely overshadowed by mages in their role(be it a DPS DW rogue or a CC/dps archer). Mages have much more crowd control options that effect targets in an area as opposed to only single targets(pinning shot, shattering shot). The only mass CC talent for archers is Scatter Shot. DW rogues have impressive damage on a single target, but mages have a few spells that let them dish out that much damage(Crushing Prison, Entropic Death, Nightmare), and to multiple targets(SotC, Mana Clash, VWB). Also due to the fact that most fights involve large numbers of low health enemies, AoE damage is often more important than being able to deal large damage to a single target.

I love the Rogue class. In every RPG I play, I always choose Rogues first. I love Backstabbing and Stealth.

Dislikes

I dislike some rogue talents like:
Deadly Strike - this talent is so useless. if you execute it, you dont even notice its Deadly-ness lol.
Evasion - the animation really sucks. it breaks the pace of your rogue. BW, please remove the parry/block animation.
Feign Death - with combat stealth, this talent is really useless. even without combat stealth, its still useless.

Limited Armors - Rogues have limited armors. Almost all armors doesnt look good. I hope BW would change the look to something more mysterious, badass, assassin-ish and rogue-ish. I really hate the skirt. The lack of Rogue headgear is another thing I dislike. Helm of Honnleath is the only Rogue worthy headgear.

Overpowered

I really dont think Rogues are overpowered. I always critic my favorite class. So far I dont find it overpowered. Mages and DW Warriors are more overpowered though.

One exception though. Setting traps while on stealth and Stealthbombing. Rogues should break stealth when these are used.

Underpowered

Archery.

Favorite Specialization

Assassin - Its a must for Melee Rogues.
Bard - I love Song of Courage. It benefits CUN Rogues as well as party members

Least Favorite Specialization

Duelist
Ranger

Favorite Rogue Talent Trees

Dirty Fighting line - essential skills for melee rogues. Except Feign Death.
Stealth line - essential for rogues
Dual Weapon 3rd line - Momentum. The Bread and Butter of Melee Rogues. This must not be nerfed ever.

Least Favorite Talent Trees

Lockpick Line - this line must be transfered to the Skills page.

What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?

Like:
 • Rogues are the only class that can open locked chests/doors.
 • The way backstab is implemented with the flanking circle at the enemy's feet, and that backstab works on stunned or immobilized opponents.
 • Rogues are not limited to typical Rogue weapons. Want Massive Armor and a Greatsword? Hey, why not?
 • Large variety of Rogue-specific talents.
Dislike:
 • No single-wield weapon talents. There are small shields with no fatigue penalty that are perfectly suited to a one-handed rogue, but no incentive to use them. They shouldn't get the Warriors Sword/Shield talent set, but why not a set of unique rogue talents that focus on maximizing backstab damage with a single, lethal blade? Could encourage use of full-size weapons as well.
 • Dual Wield + Momentum + Enchantments + Backstab = Ridiculously overpowered.
 • Lock picking should be a SKILL, not a TALENT.

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?

Dual Wield + Momentum + Enchantments + Backstab = Ridiculously overpowered.
Rogues start off a little too weak in the very early levels (level 1 or 2). Some origins can be tough to play as a rogue.

What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?

Favourites are Duelist and Assassin - both have a nice blend of abilities, and strong roleplaying potential. Least favourite is Ranger (really, just summoned animals? :( ).

Also, why is the rogue the only class without a "Forbidden" talent like Reaver and Blood Mage that require a more evil moral choice to unlock? I suppose you could argue that Assassin is the "evil" the choice, but even a very good / noble character easily picks it up from Zevran.

What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?

Favourites are Lock Picking (but it should be a skill), the Dirty Fighting chain, and Dual Wielding.
Don't really have a least favourite. All of the talent trees are useful depending on the type of character you want to build.

* What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?

I like the versatility of the rogue or rather the ability to melee or hang back and deal ranged attacks with a bow.

* Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?

I think archery is underpowered but if it was to have its dps increaed then better and more defensive armor has to be there as well. Some might say Ranger is overpwered but I play as a rogue/ranger/bard and the added power gained from the weak archery i think is balances.

* What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?

I lilke Bard because its excellent as a support specializatino which is what i feel the rogues role is, but I'm liking ranger becaue it makes up for the decreased damage dealt by the rogue.

* What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?

My favorite is poison making, and traps are my least favorite.

Thats basically the Bread and Butter of Melee Rogue. Nerf it and the Melee Rogue will suck at combat.

[*]What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?
I love the Rogue specific talent tree, and thought that the skills that the rogues get--dirty fighting, lockpicking, stealth, etc were really cool and fun to play with. I'm kinda sad that Rogue has to share two trees with Warrior--it'd be cool if there was more of a separation of abilities there, even if it was just the final ability in each tree was different. Maybe it's only something that bothers me, but I'd like to see more diversity between the two classes. But I really liked that you could see the flanking bar on the enemies, made it super easy to get into position. It'd be nice though if there was some way to program the tactics somehow (no idea how this would work) to get the AI to be able to get into backstab mode. My main major dislike is the arrows--Special arrows are really expensive in DA, so it'd be nice if either you could buy them by the stack, if special arrows were dropped more frequently by enemies, or if you could rig it so you could coat your arrows in poison. I also agree with other posters that said that rogues/mages get shafted on armor styles--warrior's get really cool looking gear, like nearly every set is differently designed and shaped. Rogues have maybe 3 styles of armor, and then its just palatte swaps (and for mages, two sets). OH, and for the chests, it'd be nice if every once and a while there was something really worthwhile in the chests you unlock. My first playthrough I didn't play rogue, and a missed a few chests, and I remember going back with a rogue later and being really sad that it was just more junk armor--which while nice to sell, I suppose, made me feel kinda lame for going all the way back into the area to unlock it =\\
[*]Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?
Archery's definitely underpowered, especially early on in the game, though by the end its pretty awesome. It'd be nice though if you could coat your arrows in poisons at least, though.
[*]What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?
Assasin/Bard are my favorites, with Duelist/Ranger as my least favorite. I agree too with someone earlier who pointed out that there's no real shady moral choice for rogue--it'd be sweet if in the future game if either the assassin or bard classes (since we know both involve espionage/assignations) involved a moral choice in order to be unlocked. Aside from the awesome abilities they give you, those two are also my favorite specs because they're the most fun to roleplay, with the most interesting lore--Antivan assassins and minstrel spies from Orleis--cool stuff. Duelist is something the pirate chick invented herself, so not a lot of backstory there, and ranger, well, I don't know if there's an NPC that teaches it to you but I got it unlocked from a tome, so literally no backstory there on why you can summon pets--seemed like kind of an afterthought spec.
[*]What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?
Favorites would prolly be the DW Momentum tree, lockpicking, and the dirty fighting stuff. Least favorite...I don't have a least favorite tree, just specific abilities like defensive fire and play dead--stuff I never found a use for =\\

Now that you mention it: This.

It's especially incongruous when you notice that the artwork for the Duelist specialisation talents all show a single-weapon stance. Plus, historically, the presence of "buckler" in "swashbuckler" was no coincidence - the original swashbucklers did in fact use a buckler.

What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?
I love the Rogue class. It is the class I personally prefer as my main character to control. It is probably the most useful overall in terms of using Coercion, Lockpicking, Stealing, Stealth scouting, and damage dealing while still maintaining a decent amount of survivability.
But as there are some things I don't like. As mentioned by others, Rogues have a very small amount of unique looking gear. Another thing is how underpowering the Archery Talents are (more on this later on).

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?
Rogue's use of Momentum is possibly one of the more overpowered abilities it can get. While Warriors can also use this, they don't benefit from the very deadly backstabbing.
The most underpowering thing on Rogue is easily the use of Archery. I always use Leilana as my primary archer of the party and in almost every game she deals less than 2% or 3% of the overall party damage. Even with the use of abilities like Arrow of Slaying and Critical Shot, the overall damage is still underwhelming considering the time needed for aiming. Another underpowering thing about Rogues is the lack of diversity with Shortbows. Longbows have a few extra choices, but is still quite limited in feeling. Crossbows are sadly worthless.

What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?
Assassin and Bard are my favorite. Assassins increase the damage dealing capabilities of Rogues by a good deal while Bard can easily help a party with it's two utility songs. Ranger isn't my favorite, but it isn't my least favorite either. I feel Duelist is possibly my least favorite. While it was very... enjoyable how I acquired the specialization, it didn't really live up to description. The boosts to melee ability of a Rogue is nothing particularly amazing. I was under the impression it would be like BG2's Swashbuckler. But in the end it was quite lackluster and it's only use is basically for Pinpoint Strike.

What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?
Since Rogue only has two weapon talent trees, it's not a particularly difficult choice. Dual Weapon is my favorite. Archery is my least favorite. See my complaints about Archery above.

Like:
I like the flexibility of a rogue in DAO. In the past I have always preferred to play a warrior or mage, but DAO has made me a rogue convert!

Dislike:
The stealing cooldown. I understand having a cooldown for talents/items used in combat but for stealing it's pointless – all it does is make the thieving process time-consuming and tedious.

Favourite rogue specialisation:
Ranger, not because I liked it as a whole but simply because it was the only way to get a pet (albeit with the annoyance of having it disappear between levels with a long cooldown).

Favourite talent tree:
I love the dual-wield talents, particularly Flurry and Whirlwind.

All in all, a great job!

What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?

I absolutely love the Rogue archetype, in any game that handles the class fairly I find myself gravitating towards them since I personally prefer playing an involved melee type over straight forward point and clickers or casters. Knowing you have powerful answers for most situations, inside and outside of combat is very empowering. I also like the fact that Rogues, like warriors, are gear reliant, it gives you something to look forward to from the progression standpoint.

That's not to say that rogues are a flawless class in this game. They have what I feel are three glaring problems. First is that their armor designs are very dull, where are the hoods, cloaks or masks?

Second problem I have with rogues is that they are very, very slow starters. Unless you dump talents early on into device mastery, even with a PC rogue you'll have to pass over numerous chests in the first few areas of the game. Stealth is of hardly any use early on as well. Combat wise you start pretty weak too, especially if you go with the archery line. These issues pretty much are minor though since once you get a few levels under your belt your rogue can really come into its own, it's great how their talents synergize so well with each other.

The third problem, is one they share with Warriors, being that stamina <<<<< mana, and this is only further exacerbated by backstabs rewarding autoattacks so much. You don't get to do enough *meaningful* active abilities per combat as a Rogue or Warrior making player attention focus mostly on the mages in the party.

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?

Nothing in particular. Momentum and combat stealth are borderline OP, but nothing even remotely close to several of the tools available to mages *coughmanaclashandforcefieldcough*

As for underpowered, maybe the archery "stances" for the most part they do nothing more than waste your stamina for very little impact.

What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?

The 4 Rogue specs are overall fine, they probably have the most balanced set among the 3 base classes. I've never been a fan of summoner type classes but I can see the appeal rangers can have for others. While the other 3 choices are all effective in their own way.

What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?

The "Rogue class" talent tree is great, there are some stinkers in there for sure such as feign death and deadly strike, and it was baffling at first to see device mastery as a talent instead of a skill but you get used to it eventually. The tree has so much potential synergy it just "feels" fun.

I can't say I have a least favorite. Although I'd never make a PC archer type character I find the tree useful enough (pc version where archery damage is respectable.) It's just a shame that the two combat trees rogues have are completely identical with what warriors get. I can go almost as far as saying if rogues had a taunt like ability warriors would be completely redundant in DA:O, a little more class diversity wouldn't hurt.

What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?

I like having lots of skill pointsand being able to invest in three or more skills, especially since combat training is more or less a must-have. Being able to easily afford both Coercion and Poisoning is alone worth it.
I like the huge amounts of damage dealt when I can backstab something repeatedly.
I like the stealth ability, once it gets to the third level. Before that, it's not that great except for trap users.
Dirty Fighting. A quick, reliable stun that can make Ogres drop my friends and interrupt spellcasting? Yes please.

I dislike having loads of cool abilities and not being able to use them because I run out of stamina so quickly, even after I invest in some willpower.
I dislike the small amount and variety of gear. All of it looks the same and the gameplay differences are minor as well.
I dislike being spread out over so many attributes.

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?

Nothing inherent to Rogues seems overpowered to me. However, they do get a free point in Poisons, allowing them to use grenades you find from the start. I thought grenades were extremely powerful in the early game.

Archery generally seems pretty underpowered. Unless you are back alley thugs and have lots and lots of archers of course.

What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?

Duelist has got to be the favourite. It really helps you stand your ground if your enemies' attention turns to you. Plus, combining a mass freezing spell with Pinpoint Strike? Hilarious.
I also like Assassin, which is considerate enough to be mainly composed of passive abilities, so it doesn't strain my stamina reserves any further.
Never tried Ranger.
Bard is the one I like the least. It devours stamina and I really didn't detect any significant return for it.

What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?

The rogue specific talents were a bit of a mixed bag. You have the Dirty Fighting line which starts extremely useful and keeps becoming less so with each step, ending in the fairly useless Feign Death. On the other line, Lethality is a must-have for many Rogues, but the preceeding Below the Belt and Deadly Strike talents are useful only in the rarest cases.

I can never bring myself to spend talent points on lockpicking with characters I actually use. Even when I had my rogue and Zevran in the party, I still delegated lockpicking to Leliana whom I wasn't using otherwise.

After my dissertation about warriors, I would be remiss if I
did not include a well informed opinion about rogues.

Rogues are more fun than warriors in that they have more
options. Unfortunately, the mechanics for opening locked boxes and disabling traps
are obscure; the formulas well hidden. I’d rather have some sort of flavor text
as we increase our skills or attributes that indicates, “You can now disable
difficult traps and open moderate locks,” or, “You can’t open squat, you newt.”
You know. Take some of the guessing out of it.

On the note of attributes: Rogues need the most. Mages need
(in my opinion) two primary attributes; getting them to their maximum skill
levels is easy. Rogues, on the other hand, need a little bit of everything,
unless you want to focus them on a specific skill tree. I’d like to see the
skill trees beefed a little bit, or the requirements relaxed so Rogues (And
Warriors for that matter) can reach top-tier abilities at a rate more
approximately equivalent to a Mage.

Other than opening locks, Rogues feel like weaker versions
of warriors with mechanics that can be gimmicky. The area that we can flank isn’t
outlined or clear unless we’re watching the damage we are doing – add some sort
of visual clues besides damage so we can see when we’re flanking, perhaps?

Compared to Mages, Rogues are not as useful, nor as capable
of mowing through enemies. I would love to see dual-wielding skills that
include damaging opponents who are further away; or an archery tree specific to
rogues that includes ranged tricks that are more useful for AOE with fewer
requirements. Alternatively, up the damage rogues deal based on dexterity
significantly. They should be able to defeat enemies at ROUGHLY the same rate
as mages if we choose to go assassin or dual wielding, with around the same
effort.

If you want all three classes to be balanced, that is.

 I do.

I want each class to be roughly the same in ability,
requiring different tactics and gear to maximize their effectiveness.

Also: I’d love to see more equipment specifically for a
rogue with cool effects: Shadow Garments that add a shading effect and lower
threat, Gloves that grant access to a special skill, and so forth. I feel,
right now, that the gearing in DA:O is perhaps one of its weakest features.

I think that about covers it.

#What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?

Actually, I think it is one of the most well rounded classes in the game. Although it does have some faults.

Love the stealth option works well, but can be abused. Being able to lay traps around hostiles without an increased chance of breaking stealth, just does not feel right. Being able to use bombs without breaking stealth period, is totally wrong. Great little dps class, lock picking and trap disarm should be rogue only skills... excellent survivability... feign death, excellent, agro pull FD :P reminds of EQ.

# Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?

Overpowered, definitely the use of bombs and trap setting while in stealth. Underpowered the archery tree, specials attacks take way to long to activate. Over use of sustains to flesh out the tree. Serious lack of animations in the archery tree make it the most bland boring class build to play.

#What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?

Most used, Bard followed by Swashbuckler (although the Swashbuckler tree still has DA:O's over dependence on sustainables... would love to see a disarm talent added to this tree)

Least used assassin, personal preference, just do not like the feel. Ranger is nice in concept but the constant recasting after zoning and the inability to set the pet's tactic window is a major pain.

# What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?

Lock picking (whats a rogue without lock picking and trap disarm), stealth a must have. Locks and trap disarm should remain the domain of rogue. Like all the trees :)

Dislike the lack of light armor models in the game (same as mage). Not just re-textures but stylish fantasy designs more flare please... also the lack of body curves on the female armor is ghastly... flat back zero backside for the lose.

Traps and poisons aren't exclusive to rogues. Nevertheless for my rogue-ish playstyle stealth, traps and poison always go hand in hand (and so do for a lot of players I guess).

Like:
Stealthed reconnaissance behind enemy lines while the rest of the group stand somewhere safe around the corner waiting for the rogues return. Disarming Traps while stealthed is great as well as setting them up. Doing great dmg from behind feels unique to the class.

Dislike (from major dislikes to minor dislikes):
Rogues tend to get aggro real fast. Trying to stay behind an enemy often is very annoying and forces you to control the rogue all the time. He won't go behind an enemy by himself when the enemy moves. Stealthed moving is a bit slow, so setting up traps is extremely time-consuming especially when you know it is essentially unneccessary. Materials for traps/poisons take too much time to find, take too much inventory space.

I have not tried the rogue yet although it looks like an excellent character to play. I've tried the mage and the fighter.

My fighter uses two weapons and it would be interesting to see if a similar levelled rogue could do the same damage.

What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?

Like: The ability to backstab is always a plus as its an easy way of dealing good damage. They also have a wide variety of skills; attack, sustained and passive. Plus, the ability to unlock chests and deactivate traps.

Dislike: They have very little stuff specific to them. Warriors can learn all their weapon talents if they try so other than that rogues have thier class tree and thats it. They also have a ridiculously low number of item-sets for them - I count 2 or 3. This makes them difficult to use well as they won't have the same item-set benefits that warriors will have - thus being hindered.

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?

Underpowered: Daggers - I know they have to be weaker than warrior weapons to make them different and I know their main focus is armor pentration, but they are stupidly weak. I mean they have a low damage value which is fair enough but then they also have a strength modifier of 0.85 - that's 2 blows to the damage they deal.

Overpowered: If you train them right they have way too many oppurtunities to backstab. Backstabing should only be done if ae behind foes. The passive ability that makes it so you can backstab when enemies when they are stunned is too much especially as though rogues have an aility which instantly stun foes.

What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?

Favourite: Duelist, purely because that it greatly strengthens melee fighters with its abilites. Assassin does this too but 2 of the 4 abilties are passive and simply help with backstabbing which is why I prefer duelists. Rangers are also good - they're just like AI controlled shapeshifters which is very useful.

Least Favourite: Obviously the bard. The abilties aren't brilliant - none are things you couldn't go without - the stat boosts are OK, plus... it just seems... boring. The others seem interesting and are suited to different types of fighter (duelist and assasin for melee and ranger for ranged). The bard just seems to be there for the sake of it.

What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?

Favourite: Both Dual-Weapon and Archer are both very good, both suited to thier roles well. A very good balance of types of talent, good variety of attacks. The only downside is that basically all the archer sustained abilties affect fire rate - that's just irritating! I almost never use them because of that! There's also the fact that a warriors can use both of them too - there's no weapon tree unique to rogues!

Least Favourite: The rogue tree itself. There's nothing there that really stands out, there's two trees devoted entirely to stealth and lock-picking which seems a waste and the other two have nothing brilliant either. So the rogue tree as a whole isn't good. Plus, why do rogues have to get more class abilites than the others?

1. What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?

The Rogue in DAO really felt like more than just a thief.  You could ignore stealth and thieving if you wanted, making the rogue into a melee (or archery) character not necessarily tied to criminal enterprises. Being able to dual wield and have archery made them versatile enough, and the spread of cunning and dexterity skills gave you different ways you could build your Rogue.

A lot of the rogue and it's specializations focused on backstabbing / flanking.  An awful lot.  While I went that route, it felt to me like had I decided to not use the flanking / backstabbing that I would be missing out on too many skills and abilities.

2. Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?

Rogue archery felt a little underwhelming for me.  It was mostly fine, but it never seemed worth it to me to use it on my rogue.

In a sense Open Locks skill tree is overpowered, as in arguably most parties will "need" to have a rogue since tehre's no other way in DAO to open a locked chest or door.

3. What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?

My favorite would be Duelist.  I really liked how you had to go about unlocking it in the campaign.  It also seemed to offer some very good abilities for what it was designed to do (helped in dueling.)
Bard and Range seem ok.
Assassin woul be my least favorite, but that's personal dislike of such things as assassinations.

4. What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?

Below the Belt, Dirty Fighting, and Dual Weapon.
Archery because it doesn't feel like enough oomph, Lockpicking because you have to unlock 4 levels but basically do the same thing (open chests and such)

Likes/Dislikes:

I love sneaking around in stealth.  I always scout ahead and disarm any traps.  Stealing is good too for some extra gold, but if I get an item it would be nice if the game would tell me what it is.

I don't like that the ranger's pets don't follow you from one area to the next.  I also think that some of the bard song graphics need to be changed.  For example, party members under the influence of the Song of Courage are shrouded in an ugly pink fog.  Maybe instead you could just put a musical note above the character's head or beside his portrait.

Underpowered/Overpowered Abilities:

Archery is underpowered, although Arrow of Slaying is nice.  You should also be able to put runes in bows and they should also benefit from the mage's fire/frost weapon spells.  I love the fact that you have an endless supply of regular arrows.

I haven't really found anything about the rogue to be overpowered.

Specializations:

I have always enjoyed keeping pets, so I would have to go with the ranger as my favorite specialization.  The master level pets can easily hold their own against many enemies and rarely die, while serving as another target.  And contrary to an earlier post they do get abilities such as Howl, Overwhelm, etc.  The poisonous spider even has a ranged attack.  But there are two significant problems with the ranger: his pet vanishes when he leaves an area, and you can't have more than one pet in a party even if you have more than one ranger.  IMHO ranger pets should be treated like any other sustained ability.

I rarely make a fighting rogue, preferring instead to give them a bow while leaving the blades to the warriors.  For that reason I would have to go with duelist as my least favorite specialization.  It is completely useless to an archer.

Talent Trees:

My favorite for the rogue is archery.  My RPG parties usually consist of one member with some king of ranged weapon, and it is almost always the rogue.   It also seems to compliment the ranger specialization well.

My least favorite tree for the rogue is the dual-weapon tree. I would rather leave that to a warrior class character.

What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?
Like: The whole feeling when playing a Rogue. I like how they end up with high armor penetration, critical hit  ratio and backstabs so they can be differentiated form Warriors.

Dislike: Deft Hands and lockpicking. I absolutely hate it. Talents points are fairly limited in DAO and I cannot afford to waste them on lockpicking when I should be improving my combat skills. As much as I want to open those damn locks, when I get a talent point I always use it for a combat talent. Make deft hands a skill, please.

I also don't like the equpment for Rogues in this game as several people have already mentioned. Add more designs please...

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?
Not really.  Dual Wielding is ok. Heard people say archery isn't any good but I don't have much expierience with it to comment.

What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?
My favorite is Assassin to maximize my backstabs(it is what makes me different than a Warrior after all). Duelist and Bard are also good as secondary specs with Ranger being my least favorite though I wouldn't call any Rogue spec bad. You can't go wrong whatever you choose.
Dual Wield is my favorite. It's not like we have many options anyway. It's either archery(which is considered to be buggy and bad) or DW.

As far as talents go, I like Momentum, Coup de Grace and lethality.

Rogue is my favorite, though I'm enjoying my current mage playthrough.  I like the subtlety that can go with the class, the pinpoint strike rather than mass destruction, and the fact that they do useful things the other classes can't.

Other people have already ragged on the boring visuals for light armor; to that I'll add my probably useless complaint that when you put it on the female characters, it's apparently more important to display cleavage than to protect things like your lungs and heart.  DA:O's audience is not entirely composed of straight males (or gay women), and some of us like the look of practicality.

Please god make rogues actually aim for their targets with Dual-Weapon Sweep instead of energetically attacking thin air, and (mentioned in the tactics thread) have a way to make them automatically circle to backstab.

It would be nice to have a skill that makes it possible to stealth around elite bosses.  (Judging by the number-crunching I saw elsewhere, it's an auto-fail, no matter how high your Cunning is.)  Sure, they're elite and all, but it takes one of the niftiest things about rogues entirely out of play for the exciting fights.

I'd rather see lockpicking be treated like trap disarming: linked to your cunning, without having to spend four valuable talent points on it.  Contra all the people calling for a mage lock-opening spell, or a warrior lock-bashing ability, I like it being a thing rogues do that other people can't; on the other hand, that does mean you have to have a rogue in the party, or else go back with Leliana after you're done killing monsters.  (Which you can't do in, say, Warden's Keep.  And btw, what the heck is up with not giving Daveth a point of lock-picking?  It really annoyed me this playthrough, having to leave treasure scattered around the Korcari Wilds.  Though admittedly the loot from chests tends to be quite forgettable.)  Stealing, while productive on a small scale (and occasionally providing a good drop), is thunderously boring; pleasepleaseplease get rid of the 10s cooldown, which serves only to waste my time.

I've mostly used the assassin and duellist specializations; buffing just isn't something that interests me a great deal, and ranger seemed like a waste, given that all you do is summon better pets.  (Much like I've never bothered to take Morrigan past the first level of shapeshifter, nor give anyone else that specialization.  I'd rather have the mages chug lyrium and keep casting.)

Archery, as people have said a million times, kind of sucks.  Slow, insufficient damage, no runes or applicable poisons, no way to know if you're beyond range, and Leliana will spend the whole battle shooting a hillock between her and her target if I don't notice her shots are being blocked.  I pretty much only use archery in fights where I know I don't want the party to advance (maybe because there's a Blizzard in their way).

Currently re-playing as a Rogue, would be nice if my tanks would act accordingly. Not in a way that can be fixed with tactics, but in order to enage the fight I need to run inte enemies, thus getting all of them on me. Can AI sort of run ahead of my, like in Baldurs Gate you could specify a formation and thus keep your rogue or caster away from frontline.

Also going into shadow was not too useful. On the second playthrough you already know the position of the enemies, thus scouting is pointless. And on harder difficulties going into shadow for a single hit, and then pulling your teem back to you, is simply a death wish.

So rogues role in combat is a bit blury, while rogues abilities to disable enemies take too long to recharge and have short effect to make any difference.

I can think to use him as an archer, but then why all close combat skills?

What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?

I like pretty much everything, exception made that rogues are too powerful, hence no fun with them ;p ... I had three playthroughs at hard diff with a rogue.
The first rogue was a human dual wielding assassin/duelist (retail version). He was using two axes, it was quite gimped cause i was experimenting with stat points etc (i've put points into constitution, willpower and strenght, wasting them). Even if i gimped that char, it was still great.

My second rogue was a dalish ranger/duelist archer (retail version). This playtrough was challenging enough and for this reason, fun to play. The only annoying thing was that i had to summon again my pet on area change and i had to set tactics again at each summon. About ranger summons, i know that overwhelm wasn't intended, but i think that for a rogue archer, having a pet with overwhelm it's not overpowered at all, so you should put that by default on special summons (when you get the tier 4 ranger talent). Again i messed up a bit my stats (less than with my first rogue), so probably i didn't reached the apex in this character, still, it was deadly as mage killer and a great support class for my party.

My third rogue was a dwarf assassin/bard with two daggers (1.02a). This playthrough was the easiest one. This time i've put points only in dexterity and cunning, ending with something like 50 natural dexterity and 55 cunning if i recall correctly. Basically i couldn't be killed by anything. I had Shale as main tank, the only thing i needed was him to get aggro and for the time shale+oghren+wynne had killed one mob, i killed five just with auto attack. I could tank everything with evasion and 120+ defense or more even (not to mention that being a bard granted me a great sustained buff)... I had stealth, bombs, poisons... and being a dwarf granted my a base 10% magic resistance.... way TOO MUCH. You can solo the game in nightmare mode and only with auto attack with a character like this one. Also i had taken only 5 talents in dual wielding: DW training, finesse, expert and sweep + dual striking... because i was after the "get all rogue talents" achievement.

Also, about the -aggro items... on rogues means you always win. They should be mage only. I can run behind enemy lines with mob ignoring me, so i'm already in backstab position.

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?

Underpowered: nothing. Overpowered... well if you ignore all stats exception made for dex and cun, you become a killing maching. Probably willpower and constitution should become actually useful stats, so you HAVE to put some points there, making your rogue a perfect and fun character, and not the godmode character he is now.

What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?

Fun to play... well, most of them have passive talents or sustained, so well.. Duelist i would say (even if those talents are not really needed since again, you just need autoattack to survive). Talents are fun when you actually need them to get past challenges, otherwise they are only more buttons to press.

What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?

Assassin
"Mark of Death" should be instant without casting animation, i almost never used it seeing that i just needed autoattack and it wasted 2 seconds for a casting animation (and with two seconds i can get one mob killed...). Also having another active talent in this line would be fun.

Bard
"Distraction" and "Captivating song" for bards it's pointless. They are designed for Leliana, not for your warden, which doesn't need them... i mean, you probably have 4 points in stealth (everyone pick up stealth IV, it's fun) so why do you need to distract someone? Also there are -aggro items, so why on earth you would want to distract someone. To save your mage from aggro? It's impossible to loose aggro once you get provoke and taunt... even if your tank is standing still taking hits. Captivating Song... I got it once with Leliana to test it out, and i think i used it only one time ;p You can't move, can't attack, do nothing and stuns are on a diminishing return. Make it a shout like shale's one with a long cooldown.

Duelist
My first duelist took all 4 talents. Assuming i'm surely dual wielding something and i took some dual wielding attacks, i don't see why i should use "upset balance". I'd rather use my willpower for a punisher or two. Pinpoint strike is fun, but with a rogue having 100% chance to get a critical strike on backstab, why should i use it? The real useful skills in this line are Duel and Keen Defense.

Ranger
Rangers get +1 constitution (which is laughable compared to other bonuses i get from other specs) and +5 nature resistance..............dotdotdot. Most likely, everyone who made a rogue archer got this spec so why not giving +2 dexterity +2.5% ranged critical chance?
Summons are great, but after you get Bear and Spider you summon Wolf only if the other two pets got killed (which may happens once in a playthrough). I would remove the wolf summon and add a sustained talent to ranged damage and attack instead of the wolf summon. Also it's not overpowered to give Bear and Spider the overwhelm talent.

I hope this was useful, thanks :)

Rogue seems very well balanced.

It's a pity that cutscenes over-ride stealth, which stops the rogue from disarming traps prior to combat if the enemy intends to talk first.

There's also the time-honoured stealth exploit - creep past all enemies until some event forces the party to jump to you. You can by-pass virtually all combat in some sections that way.

The rogue doesn't seem to get XP for avoiding unnecessary combat by stealth (even if the party catch-up is done legally).

Loved the crafting system, traps etc. Even more powerful grenades and traps would be nice-to-have.
