What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?

Like: Fast and fun gameplay, lots of options: You can be a trap based rogue, a poison and stealth based one, you can also be a rogue that never uses stealth and have the rogue more as a fast paced light warrior
The class feels extremely diverse.

Dislike: The DW tree could be different between the two classes, that would make it more fun to play both a DW warrior and a DW rogue.
Too few good armor options, I had the dalish set on both my own PC rogue and on Leliana for probably the first 40 hours. I got the first Dragon Scale armor, but Dalish set gave me more dex bonus + 10 more in defense, so I kept running with it :)

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?

Not anyting that I've come to think about. I would love a fix to the dex-bug though.

What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?

I like all of them. I think the Bard is the one I wouldnt choose for myself, mostly because the talent's aren't very fun to me.
I have played 3 PC rogues which I really enjoyed and I alsmot felt it was like three different classes:
1. Duelist/assassin, focused on DW, evasion and combat, not so much on stealth, traps and poison
2. Ranger/duelist, focused on ranged attacks, stealth and traps and I really enjoyed having the pet ability.
3. Assassin/duelist, focused on stealth, traps and poison

What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?

Didn't really dislike any of them. Overall I think the DW talent tree feels more fitting for a rogue, so I would love to see a different DW talent tree for warriors.

What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?
I do like that the rogue has unique abilities that make you want to give a rogue a shot. The most obvious of those abilities is lockpicking. It's a nice way of making the rogue a real moneymakerclass.
I dislike that there are so few really good weapons and armor for the rogue and when it is there, it's 9 out of the 10 times extremily ugly looking. Especially the helms. I just don't wear helms with my rogue because I just can't stand watching at something so ugly the whole time.
Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?
Overall I think the rogue is an overpowered class. If you just equip the rogue with dual daggers, take 3 points in dual wield specialization and give m momentum... you deal so incredibly much damage. There is (on nightmare) no class in the game that comes even remotely close to it. And if you fail to exploid that, you just can make your rogue an archer. Take all the archer talents and use the preset tactic for archer. Also than you will slaughter about anything in your way without doing anything.
Than the stuff that I find underpowered. Well actually everything that I haven't mentioned at overpowered. It's useless to even have all those other talents and skills there since you don't use them anyway if you're smart and want to win. But the most useless thing about the rogue is trap detection. There is about 1 trap in the game (even on nightmare) that is gonna kill you if you don't know it's there. So why the detection is there is a mystery.
What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?
My favorite is the bard, because Song of Valor regenerates the mana of my healer and since an out of mana healer is the only way you'll certainly die, Bart gotta be my favorite. My least favorite is ranger. The stats bonusses are useless and the spiritanimals are not worth the stamina. They just die.

What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?
Favorite talentree is the dualwieldingtree because of momentum. The least favorite is the rogue tree itself.

I like the rogue because this class is a good counter against the mage. My rogue has always full acher ability and i fight first against a mage when there is one in the attacking party.

Prefered Specialization:
- Duelist
- Ranger

What i miss is specific Rogue Armor

[*]I have so far only played mine to level 7 and found the class fun to play.  It is different from either the warrior or mage.  What I dislike mainly has to do with not having a viable single weapon or single weapon and shield combat path available.  I used Lilliana with dagger and shield as a secondar weapon combo through the whole game, and my rogue so far has used single weapon and shield to good effect as an alternative to archery.
[*]Given the rogues necessary reliance on talents that require stamina the fact that they get the least per level seems a bit odd.  Dirty fighting being an automatic sucess seems a tad over powered as does the fact there seems to be no "spot" check to discover a hidden rogue plus the fact you can open doors and tool around as you will.
[*]The rogue specializations all seem to be good ones depending on your approach to the character you are playing.  This is in marked contrast to either the warrior (2 only make sense) or mage (none or 1 make sense).  Lelianna as a bard/duelist worked reasonably well and I am planning on duelist/assasin for my character.  Basically the rogue specializations all work in a RP sense depending on what sort of a character you have.
[*]I like the rogue tree itself.  There is nothing wrong with archery but as I have commented before duel weapon is for the birds.

What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?
As other mentioned, it would be nice to have more rogue-specific gear, perhaps even with a better design (I was severely disappointed by the bland look of Felon's Coat). Gameplay-wise, I like the utility of the rogue (Deft Hands, Stealth, Stealing), but - as many others have said - something is off in the way these abilites are divided: why is stealing a skill but deft hands a talent? They should be both skills, or, better yet, Deft Hands should be a rogue-specific skill that encompass lockpicking, trap-disarming and stealing.
Also, and this is perhaps my biggest complaint, the more rogue-ish side-quests (Favors for Certain Interested Parties, the Antivan Crows Trials, Slim Couldry) feel pretty generic when compared to Blackstone Irregulars and the Mages Collective (which also offer some nice roleplaying possibilities). These rogue-ish side-quests, in fact, can be effectively done by every class, and they make little use of the rogue-specific talents. I'd like to see more side-quests where an extensive use of Stealth, Deft Hands and the like is required.

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?
Archery is really underpowered, and I usually find that is better to use a bow with only high stats instead of devoting talent points to Archery, since these talents feel pretty bland. Maybe it's only my choice of style (I prefer melee, with bows only used to pick off distant enemies and drive them away from the rest of the mob), but I don't like archery.

What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?
Assassin is easily my favorite, since it lends itself perfectly to my style of play and it's pretty amazing in its own right. Duelist is a solid second choice. I don't really like Ranger, which I find pretty useless (the pet takes to long to be summoned, disappears whenever the player canges zone and - like the Mage's Animated Dead - is just not that strong to be bothered with).

What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?
Favorite: Dirty Combat - Coup the Grace; Below the Belt - Lethality; Dual-Wielding Strike - Whirlwing
Least Favorite: everything Archery :D

What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?
Like:
That the rogue is a great dps with backstab, DW talent tree, Assassin and duelist specializations.

Dislike:
That the rogue is the only one to open chests and disable traps, chests should be bash-able for worriors not all chests but some-to-most!
Trap-making is a skill all can get, so all can make a trap and set it but they can't disable it again? isn't that pointless? (make the trap-making skill a rogue talent instead?)
And that the equipment isn't as interesting for rogues as it is for worriors that's sad. Allso the rogue talent tree is dagger oriented no archer uses backstab, combat movement, Coup De Grace or deadly strike.
The other useful talents for archers is curled into all the above  talents so you don't have the opportunity to get them.

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?
Overpowered:
As I like the great dps with rogues it's overpowered in contrast to 2H-weapons. 2h-weapons just don't get the damage they should.

What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?
As said, the Duelist and Assassin specializations because if you are a DW they give good buffs to dps.
The bard is allso good for its buffs it gives the party and debuffs for the enemys. The ranger I havent used that much, so I have no real comment on that.

What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?
I think its the DW because it gains the most buff from other talents and specializations that the rogue has.

What i like about the rogue:

High damage.
Lots of talents that are not just about direct combat.
Stealth.

What i dislike:

Archery seems to take a lot of talent points to reach some usefull abilities.

Overpowered. I haven't come across anything i think is overpowered.

Underpowered: I think archery does too little damage.

Favorite talent tree: Dual wield. It does a lot of damage.(edit) Oh yeah and it recieves the most buffs from the other rogue talents.

Least favorite: Archery. It does not do enough damage.

Favorite specialisation: Finding just ONE favorite is hard but i very much like Assasin(for more damage) and Ranger(for more "units").

Least favorite specialisation: So far it's bard. I have only tried the early bard talents and i don't think they are very usefull.

Be sure to answer the poll on Rogue specializations as well!

1. I like everything about a rogue and just wish certain things were more useful. The cooldown on pick pocket should be reduced significantly.

2. Lockpicking and pick pocket need to be buffed up and useful for certain quests. Those people who decide not to include a rogue in their party should not be able to complete certain quests that require those skills - this is a roleplaying game after all. Traps should deal a LOT more damage so it makes dungeon crawling a lot more intense and exciting. You'd actually need to watch where you step.

3. Only 2 real specs IMO. I guess that's why there's only 2 recruitable rogues in the game. I wish there were more to be honest - like a monkish type spec.

4. Once again, not much choice here. That's the big thing I'd improve on with the rogue class.

I average i would say that i Enjoy rogue the most. The stealth mode however is way to basic it needs a complete rework. you should encourage sneaking out of sight rather then straight through the enemy core. look at the thief serie for insperation

i dislike that lockpick is a rogue only talent when it's the only way to open a chest. it should either be a skill for every class or you should beable to bash/unlock with spell, or someone should have the key.

another is that stealth still count as in combat. if you sneak by something you should sneak by it. area transitions shouldn't prevent this.

the skill knock unconscious is missing. (alternative to backstab for those that don't want to kill)

I dislike that you can't use poison on arrows (but that goes for bow use in general) and that you can't set your rogues to position for a backstab\\flanking automatically.  I'm constantly pausing to move the my rogue becasue they have a tendancy to put them seleves in a full frontal combat.

overpowered is the dual wielding attacks underpowered is the stealth ability, a character with a super high dex and 4th tier stealth should be able to sneak up on anyone.

I like the assasin and duelist trees.  While I normally like rangers, I don't see any real benefit to them in this game.

I like the arrow of slaying and the marked for death.  Don't care for the scatter shot because no matter of I set up the tactics my archer always seems to stun my own party with it...so I don't use it or supressing fire at all.

My experience with Rogues is limited but I do have some thoughts.

What I like:

Rogue has the potential to be one of the most versatile classes in terms of how you build your character. With a different allocation of skills, talents, and specializations you can end up playing characters with a greatly different early to mid game feel.

Rogues also have by far the most out of combat options in the game. They have extra quests, the ability to scout, trap finding/setting, and, most of all the ability to open those locked chests and doors which seem to be EVERYWHERE in the game.

I like the overall "feel" I get from the class.

What I don’t like:

It’s more of a game design thing, but I hate the fact that it feels like you HAVE to have a rogue in your party to get a complete experience of the game. Rogues being the only class to be able to open chests and doors makes me resent them. When not playing a Rogue it bugs me that I have to make my NPC rogue active all the freaking time to open stuff. Anyone can steal, but only a few folks can pick locks?

There aren’t enough NPC Rogues. Having a 3rd or 4th Rogue NPC would have been very nice. Warriors get too much representation here.

The Armor ... as others have pointed out there is a good variety of style for warriors as their high end armor has a lot of variance in appearance, while rogues are pretty much the same from level 1 to 20.

MAD. Rogues seem to need to spread out their attributes more than most other classes.

There really isn’t a good option for the STR based Rogue, like the bandit, thug, or highwayman of classic fiction. I would have loved to see a medium armor + either single hand weapon or TH weapon specialization for the Rogue.

Overpowered:

Dual Wield in general, especially with Runes and such, but that’s not just a rogue specific problem. The amount of raw single target damage a Rogue Assassin can dish out while fully buffed is staggering.

Scattershot ... it’s usually not overwhelming on a PC or NPC simply because few parties have more than one archer, but it’s downright broken on opponents. Going into battle against groups with many archers at higher levels is just way too hard thanks to this one ability.

Out of combat utility. More than any other class in the game you have things to do as a rogue. Rogues have an easier time getting good dialogue options than any other class, they have all that scouting, and even extra quests. It’s too much especially when compared to a class like the Warrior.

Specializations:

Ranger is my favorite, though it could use a bit of improvement in this game. It is annoying that the summoned critter can’t make it across area transitions, but I just make sure that I have tactics set up so that it autosummons. It’s also amusing how good an enhanced bear is with additional party buffs boosting it. Hundreds of HP, increased hit and damage, etc. It’s also useful in that it soaks up damage from attacks that would otherwise be going to other party members.

Assassin was my least favorite, more for how it was built rather than any mechanical issues. I would rather have had Assassin boost poison and perhaps trap making rather than combat. As is the Assassin is pretty much required for any melee build. It just seems to me that the Duelist should have had been the “melee rogue” specialization. With so much melee overlap between the two you end up with a bit too much synergy. This specialization wasn’t really "evil" like the Blood Mage or Reaver seemed to be.

Talent Trees:

I really didn’t care for Deft Hands and Stealth being complete 4 slot talent trees. IMHO these should have been skills or smaller parts of more general Rogue trees.

[*]What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?
  • Like - Had a lot of possible builds and ways to develop.
  • Dislike- Forced to spread thin in their talent and skill points.
  • Dislike - Lockpicking is a major reason to be spread thin.
[*]Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?
  • The strength requirements for a lot of the good "rogue" capable armors are around 20 and so rogues, unlike mages and warriors, have to devote their points to more than 2 attributes.
  • The strength requirements on the best swords really force the rogues into the dagger path.
[*]What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?
  • Assasin and Bard are the favorites. Assasins have 3 passive skills and I place a huge value on passive skills as they don't consume stamina. Bard specialization can be useful with just the first level talent alone.
  • Duelist is neat but always seems to be less useful than a dual-wielding skill or something from the assasin tree plus that seocnd level skill is a big roadblock to pushing up the tree.
  • Ranger I've really never used.
[*]What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?
  • Below the belt is a great and useful tree for all 4 powers.
  • The Dirty Fighting Tree is  great except for the useless Feign Death
  • Locking is a necessary eveil but I've never gone more than 2 levels up the tree.
  • Stealth is just not useful in a party environment and it is just so silly (I mean really walking "unseen" through the middle of a well-lit room. I only used it in mouse form.

I play on the Xbox 360

Likes
I really like the variety the rogue has to offer.  You can be an archer or go in with 2 daggers.

Dislikes
I didn't like having to be a rogue to be able to open a chest. I remember one play through, I didn't have a single rogue and I missed about 60+ chests.

Overpowered/Underpowered for Rogues
Overall Archery doesn't even compare to a backstab rogue.  I had a rogue with double daggers rocking some 60%+ backstab bonus, when the rogue was behind a target, he did so much damage.  I was seeing some 50 backstabs constantly.  Its really Overpowered.  Another thing that is overpowered is when you stack Dex on a rogue.  I had dueling running and with some 70+ Dexterity and I had some 160 defense.  Making me almost impossible to hit with a melee attack.

Specialization
I like the idea of Assassin, overall somewhat disapointing having to get Cunning when Dexterity is a better stat for rogues.  Bard is good with the songs.  Ranger seems like a wasted specialization to me, Bear is too big, Wolf is good but not worth a specialization, and Spider is just meh.  Dueling is good, I only use it for the buff to defense in attack.

Armor
Rogues could definitely use some new armor sets.  Warriors have access to AWESOME sets of Massive and Heavy Armor.  All a rogue has is pretty much Felons coat and Wades superior Drakeskin armor.  I would like to see more light armor sets in the future.

I really like the rogue class, it was actually my first full play through.
Likes:
I know many people have said the opposite but i actually really like that they are the only class that can open locks and disarm traps - if everyone could do it then i think it would take away one of the most important reasons for having a rogue in the party. And in general i really like the versatility of the class - I've played as both an archery based and a duel wield and found both to work well (i play in the Xbox and i know the dex is meant to be bugged but i have never found it too be too big an issue).
Dislike:
Many people have said it, but lack of interesting looking equipment. There is plenty with good stats but it does all look much of a muchness. Again been said before but stealing seems a bit pointless, i know its not actually a rogue specific talent but i can't help think of them together :) The quest you get from slim are about the only time in the game stealing seems worth having. Oh, and others have mentioned the 'stealing success' and then not actually getting anything, i assume its a bug but very annoying. Oh, and feign death never really seemed any good to me. Finally, it may just be me failing to notice (also a high possibility with any thing) but with the AI for Zev, he never seems to actually move behind targets for backstab, would be quite good to see that as maybe a tactics option. Although i suppose that might mean he never actually hits anyone and spends all his time trying to get behind people... i know nothing about programing :)
Best/Worse Specialization:
Assassin and Bard are my favorites (though i haven't actually tried playing my PC as a Bard - just used Leliana). Duelist is ok but i've found Ranger pretty useless, especially as you have to re-summon the animal every time you enter a new area.
Favorite talent tree:
The rogue one - if for no other reason than its the only one they have the is unique to them.

Edit: Duel Weld is not real thing... although maybe it should be

PC version of Dragon Age here, just for your information.

Like:
  • Feel of Combat - I really like it, as a rogue is quite flexible as for melee/ranged. While it makes me pause the game more due to that, I feel the fights are less 'fire and forget' like many mage battles turned out for example.
  • Interesting Story Lines - A rogue got a good chance to play a lot of story lines, which is one thing that drives me a bit away from mages for example, with having the Tower over and over.
  • Mixture of Utility and Combat - To have both available makes it even interesting to have two rogues in a party. The most fun I had so far was with main as rogue (Assassin/Duelist) and having a Bard/Ranger along.
Dislike:
  • Lack of Variation of Gear - Like many said before, rogue gear (and also mage gear for that matter) is lacking some variations.
  • Demand for Persuasion in Story Line too High - This is more of a general complaint, but I think it hits rogues hardest, as rogues are a class who got utility skills highly attached to themselves, role playing wise. E.g. traps, survivability are skills that I would first and foremost attach to a rogue role playing character. I know that I can very well make a fighter or mage skilled in traps, but my inner role playing sense cringes at that thought.
  • Poisons - At least for me, I always went for some sort of stunning poison (e.g. Deathroot), as it allows criticals then. The rest of the poisons were more or less neglected, except Soldier's Bane in one or two fights (won't mention them here specifically, as this is a no spoilers section). Anti mage (mana) poison was not that useful for me so far, as mages are usually the first to come down and they do come down very quickly in general and besides, stunning helps there a lot, too :D
  • Stamina Pool - I usually neglect an increase of the stamina pool, even though it might allow me to keep two/three sustained abilities up. In the end, damage is what matters, how fast an enemy goes down and for that I usually use two sustained abilities at most per character.
Specializations:

As for the specializations, I think Ranger/Bard (deeper skills) are the perceived weakest for me, though it depends a lot on the group set up, as e.g. the stun of a Bard can come in very handy, if there are no other means (mage for example). A Ranger can be pretty good with the summoned pets, though I usually dismiss them in favor of other sustained abilities, the costs are quite high to maintain both pet and a sustained. Not to mention that pets disappear on zoning, which makes it quite annoying to recast them.

Perhaps a Ranger could come with some more boosted skills with regards to 'outdoor' abilities (survivability perhaps?) and/or lower pet costs. A Bard with some boost to Persuasion or something (charming songs), not sure, as it is indeed highly specific as for how the group is set up.

My favorite Specializations so far are Assassin and Duelist. Initially I thought Duelist to be quite weak, but it makes the rogue actually a class who can even tank very high damaging encounters.

Talent Trees:

My favority of all times are Archer and Dual Wielding talent trees. From the generic rogue ones a bit of stealth (up to two is quite desirable for me) and lock pick. As for the Dual Wiedling, it is a bit more my personal style and it still allows the rogue to be able to tank in battles even.

General Sentiment:

While both Like and Dislike list a couple points, rogue is my favorite class in Dragon Age so far, with having played all other classes extensively as well.

What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?
I liked the versatility of the rogue being able to do either ranged or melee attacks, pick locks, and disarm traps; however, whether by design or no, that pretty much means you have to take a rogue with you in order to do the latter too.

Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?
I felt on my rogue play-through that the class was pretty well designed - can do a lot of damage but needs a tank to keep the bad guys focus.

What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?
I do not have a preference; think this class had the best mix and match of any of the specializations - assassin, bard, duelist, and ranger.  One thing about the ranger is that it would be nice maybe if it worked with your range attacks?  Maybe that's in the role-play of it but with just the 4 to choose from I'd have to say it was my least favorite, tho overall am fairly satisfied.

What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?
I don't have a favorite per se; liked the archery tree at the start but currently favor the dual-wield; both are good to me.

Rogue is my favorite class, I've played more rogues than mage & warrior combined.

I can't say I have favorite talents or specializations, I choose them based on character/role play and try to make each rogue I play focus on different aspects of the class. My current rogue is a thief, and I've invested heavily in stealth, lock picking and coercion at the expense of weapon skills. Previous rogues have not used stealth at all.

I probably use assassin and duelist most for rogues. I only use ranger for Dalish elves, for rp reasons, because the Dalish live in the forests, everyone else comes from a city. I rarely choose bard for my PC, though I did use it once as a secondary specialization for a ranger Dalish rogue.

Like everyone else, I'm disappointed by the armor for rogues, that it's so limited and mostly all looks the same. I especially hate the bare arms & legs on male rogues, so that limits them to the studded leather style of armor for me.

I prefer being the rogue in my party because I like being able to open chests and disarm traps myself. When I'm not a rogue, I dislike having to take Leliana with me every time, especially in situation where the game forces a particular character into the party. As for Zevran, I'm playing on Xbox and can't respec him to be a lock picker. He has zero lockpicking skill when you pick him up, so getting him to the point of being useful as the the lock picker and trap disarmer of the party takes time. Because of that, I end up with Leliana in the party all the time when I'm not a rogue. I like Leliana, but I like variety even more, and wish I had more choice in that regard.

Dual Wield + Momentum + Enchantments + Backstab = Ridiculously overpowered.

Thats basically the Bread and Butter of Melee Rogue. Nerf it and the Melee Rogue will suck at combat.

The only real "Nerf" I'd like to see done to this is to make Momentum drain your stamina quickly, like the description says it does (but it doesn't really do).

Momentum should be a sort of overdrive that the rogue can go into on occasion for a short period of time to overcome powerful foes. The type of thing you would use on bosses, or when surrounded by a ton of enemies. It also doesn't make sense to me, from a roleplaying perspective, that a Rogue would be able to use this hyper-speed all the time without tiring.

The way it is now, you basically just turn on Momentum and forget about it. You end up attacking what feels like 4 or 5 times faster than any other character, and out-damage even the the strongest Warrior wielding a massive hammer. That just doesn't feel right. Momentum might as well be a Passive skill the way it is implemented now.

This is definitely my favorite class! Mostly because I think it's the most useful, considering that you can pretty much go around lockpicking stuff, stealing stuff, etc, without having to require another member of your party if you build your character right, so I really don't have anything I dislike about the class.

Though, I felt as if the stealing skill could've had more use in the game.

My favorite specialization for the Rogue is definitely Assassin, I like the others too but I guess the one I like least is probably Ranger, since, if I only find use for it when playing a Blood Mage.

I can't choose just one talent tree but I guess I like the dual wielding ones the best, followed by the locking one.

I've never done a complete playthrough as a rogue. I just quit halfway through. This isn't a problem with the class however, its my personal preference as to how I play. I really like theidea of an archer rogue however.

Ok, after almost 4 pages, it has pretty much all been said.. I agree with the poor armour options and the lack of decent shortbows.

Rogues are my favourite class, still on my first play though as an archer ranger/assassin, now at level 21.

I like the fact that only rogues can open locks and disarm traps. Please DO NOT change this!

Do not like the fact that archery in DA:O is so poorly implemented. The only way I can use archery is with the Better Archery mod. This brings archery to life and makes it a very worthwhile path to follow. It adjusts bow mechanics /stats for both short and longbows, and allows for rune placement on bows and mage element enchantments. It also adjusts the spamming of enemy archery talents, i.e. scattershot, from low level enemies, however, it makes the higher level and boss archers very deadly. You need to take them out right after mages or your party will be cut to shreds in no time..

I like the dual-wield implimentation.

I have a problem with the rogue talent lines. Overall, there are too many lines for available talent points. Plus there are some redundancies and a couple of near useless talents no one would use.

The rogue priority should be stealth and tools. I have no problem with tools (lock-picking and trap disam) being talents.

Currently, it is like this:

Dex/lvl
10/1                           14/4                                18/8                             22/12
Dirty Fighting -> Combat Movement -> Coup De Grace -> Feign Death
Below the Belt -> Deadly Strike -> Lethality -> Evasion
10/1                             14/4                     23/8               35/12
Dex/lvl

Tools line
Stealth line

I would propose something like this

10/1                                                           14/4                                       18/8                                       22/12
Dirty Fighting/Below the Belt- -> Combat Monvement -> Coup De Grace/ Deadly Strike -> Lethality

1- Combine Dirty Fighting and Below the Belt- into 1 first level talent
2- Combine Coup De Grace and Deadly Strike into 1 3rd level talent
3- Dump Feign Death and Evasion. Feign Death is not needed and Evasion has an animation that interrupts things. Both are super-seeded by Master Stealth, anyway...
4- Keep the number of rogue talents acquired during progress the same.

This will result is 3 key rogue talent lines. This way one can build a rogue with a preferred combat style I.e. Dual-Weapon, and still have decent talent distribution in archery.

My one problem with the rogue is the enormous point-sink that is lockpicking. It's not an option; there's no other way to get into those chests, so you have to take it, and that's four specialization points gone. That leaves the rogue exceptionally uninteresting in combat until at least midgame, since you've got a lot less active abilities than the other classes (warrior and rogue both get piles of passives that they need, plus an extra four points spent on lockpicking). The game's interface is good, but it's not good enough to make trying to set up backstabs fun; you're left with your autoattack.

I like the extra skill points the rogue gets, as well as the specializations... there's no Rogue specialization I don't like. Fixing bows would be awesome, but that's not a rogue-specific problem.

ADDENDUM:  For lockpicking, what I'd like to see is that it be a direct function of Cunning (and perhaps Dex as well), available only to rogues, rather than a four-tier talent.  If it has to be a talent, make it the first tier of a four-tier set of talents with neat effects.

Haven't played too much of the Rogue, but I do have a few thoughts. Once I've played more as the Rogue I will come back with more ideas.

Dislikes

- Rogue 'armour' options are fairly limited

- Rogues don't look a lot like Rogues (need cloaks, hoods and stuff)

- Stealth is very powerful and should have counters like certain creatures (Mabari, Wolves, Werewolves) being able to smell Rogues.

Likes

- I think it makes the class feel more unique to be the only one who can open locks. It would be nice if (some of) the best Rogue equipment in the game was only attainable through lockpicking...then only Rogue teams would know what it is.

What do you like and dislike about the Rogue?
Overall I like the rogue - although I don't like the name very much.  I see the rogue as being a lightly armoured warrior (a scout or skirmisher) so the archery tree makes sense.  Things I'd like to change
  • I'd like to see an armour / defense tree focused on things like evasion
  • Doing something with the lockpick and pickpocket trees - as has been pointed out you don't get anything worth having from the chests but you have to dedicate four talent points and a lot of cunning to be able to open all the chests in the game.  I wonder if this is an experiment that Bioware is running - they've told us that the chests contain junk but many of us are so obsessive that we still have to open them.  Shorter version - make chests easier to open, the lock pick tree shorter, or put something useful in chests.
Is there anything that you feel that is underpowered or overpowered on the Rogue?
  • I like backstab, but I would like the probability of warriors getting a critical from behind to be much higher than it currently is.
  • Archery seems to be underpowered, in that (in this playthrough) my Lelilana with no dual weapon skills appears to be more useful than when she is shooting (with 4 archery skills).
What are your favorite Rogue specializations? What are your least favorite?
I like Duellist, I don't really like Bard.  This is partly because I don't like buffs that I have to turn off after each fight (and I can't leave them on as I I find the visual effects distracting when not in combat).  I haven't tried Ranger yet.

What are your favorite Rogue talent trees? What are your least favorite?
Favorite is dual wielding, although I don't use much of the area effect talents.  Least favourite would be archery and lockpicking (because the whole chest / reward / lockpicking approach seems to be poorly though out - sorry)
