Hey, just letting you guys know I can't launch your game at all. The dvd installs the game just fine, but when launching it "fails to authenticate the disc" and quits the application. Anyone else know any known workarounds or fixes (I have a fixed exe to play currently, but hate using those due to patching issues later down the road)?
The game runs just fine with a no cd executable, but like stated above, I really don't want to use one of those in the longterm.

had same issue after waiting since 1 pm yesterday for a response from EA (talked to chat but they werent helpful at all) . right now trying to download through eadm and see if that works.my system is well above min requirements and this is with xp so should run smooth. never had this much trouble from a game.mass effect/fallout 3 etc all run smooth and zero problems. and dont know what this disk 2 stuff is i only had 1 disk and this is my 2nd copy i returned it once. hand it to ea to ruin another game would think they learn but one day it will come back on them.

Ya, I only have one disk, so that suggestion doesn't help, ty though. It's likely some wierd incompatibility with my Benq dvd drive.

I have the same problem with the UK Play.com version. So far the only way I've managed to get it to work is to get a fixed exe file like the poster. This really sucks.

Activate your CD Key in the EADM program and download it instead. Otherwise look for firmware and stuff because it might be a compatibility issue with the disk drive.

Make sure you deactivated any virtual drive currently active.

Heya!
it was the drive...can´t believe it though. Everything runs smooth except this title, well.
Since i did already owne a second drive i thought trying this one will not hurt and see..everything works fine now. The old drive is a plextor 130 old one the new one is more a burner but still (LG)
In my case it was just the drive.
Have fun, good luck

Hey well I have a Plextor PA-130A and updating the firmware looks like it has fixed the issue. I had firmware version 1.01. If you have the same version try going to http://old.plextor.b...=DVD-ROM drives otherwise try http://www.plextor-e...om/support.html
I would definately try updating your BenQ firmware

I am also having this issue, I found my driver name easily enough (MAXTOR STM3250820AS 6QE08W45), but searching the site for new firmware, no go.
I'm not sure how to run the game off an .exe or whatever, can anyone assist?

Using a MAXTOR STM3250820AS; 6QE08W45 drive, exact same issue as described, no hope however of finding new firmware and any attempt by me to somehow 'crack' the game to avoid the issue.
I don't know where to find a no cd exe also, or how to even use one. Is it possible for a guy to just buy a game and play it these days? I'm really getting put off badly here.

Just do some google searching and there are a few places to get the no cd exe, but be careful about what you link or download. I searched far and wide for a firmware update for my drive, but apparently it's too old (plus the Benq site doesn't even have a support reference for drives, just monitors and something else, forget).

Seriously, Bioware, your CD check is causing issues with certain drives, I know this isn't necessarily a hight priority for you right now, but it's unacceptable for people to have to shell out an additional 20 to 100 dollars (depending on the drive). Is there anyway to circumvent the launcher without using a no cd exe?

Markam5555 its your DVD drive that needs updating not the hard drive at least a quick google suggests what you listed there is your hard drive.
If you got this problem stick the name and version of your DVD drive up here. To get that go to your control panel - system - hardware - device manager - dvd/cdrom drives.

I also have this "Failed to authenticate the disk. Please insert the correct disk and try again." message when trying to launch the game through the DAOriginsLauncher and through the daorigins.exe. This was after a clean install. I then found the thread mentioning a patch, so gave that a go, which gave me a whole different problem (clicking 'Play' from the launcher did absolutely nothing at all... which was resolved by downloading a VC 2005 Redist installer). However, that still left me with this 'authenticate disk' problem.
I saw mention (on the EA customer support site: http://support.elect...=&p_faqid=22234) about optical drives with DLA enabled (something to do with drag and drop CD/DVD recording). Anyway, I don't have anything saying DLA on my drive's properties but it did have 'Enable CD recording on this drive' ticked. However, disabling this still doesn't fix this problem for me.
I don't have any of the software in their 'List of conflicting software'. I also don't have any of their 'CD Emulation Software' that they say might cause problems.
My optical drive (LG GCC 4120B) has the latest firmware (2.02). No other optical drives.
I have a couple of other physical hard disc drives.
I'm running WinXP SP3.
I installed Dragon Age Origins to my D - drive (my OS is on C)... just in case it's worth mentioning since I've occasionally seen some shoddy software assume everything must be on C:.

I found a possible solution. EA has kindly offered a digital version to owners of the DVD retail copy.
You'll have to uninstall your current DVD version for this to work.
http://eastore.ea.com/eadm
That's a direct link to the EA Download Manager. Download it and login with your EA account details. Then use your CDKEY to activate DAO for digital download. You can then download the digital version. You'll have to leave the EADM installed as it uses DRM to check that your copy is legal, but its the best way I can see to fix it short of trying a new DVDROM.

Had same issue with my Plextor DVD PA-130A and DVD-RW PX-760A. Both have latest firmwares but still the "Failed to authenticate the disk. Please insert the correct disk and try again."
It's not practical for me to use the EA Download Manager - this would takes ages for me :-(

I have been chasing this up with EA support who seem intent on refusing to properly fix this problem. They have suggested that I get the download version of the game, which I don't think is an acceptable solution (I bought a disc verison because I didn't want to have to worry about exceeding my ISPs download limit and having to leave my PC on for days to download 20GB). After asking whether there was any other solution and even if anyone was actively investigating a proper fix rather than suggesting very inconvenient work-arounds, I was told that it's most likely an esoteric problem with my CD drive.... The fact that I've played 40 or 50 other disc-based games on my PC, most of which also do a simple disc check without any problems, combined with the number of posts on this problem on these forums strongly suggests that it is a valid problem with their disc check that needs fixing.
I admit to having resorted to an unofficial no-CD work-around but resent being forced to do so despite doing my best to help EA properly fix the issue that they refuse to accept. I won't be buying any more EA games that claim to use the same simple disc check (Mass Effect 2 has mentioned this) until they acknowledge and properly fix this.
