Are mages allowed to talk to their families? (Psst, writers?)

Not sure if this is the right forum, but... eh.

It's pretty clear that they aren't allowed to *stay* with their families, and that a good deal of the families probably wouldn't even keep them. But there's surely at least one good family in Ferelden that doesn't want to completely abandon their abomination child to the mercy of the chantry? Isolde and Eamon?

So I was wondering. Are mundanes allowed in the Circle Tower? Say, to visit their kids? Could apprentices get mail from their families or something? Could full mages go visit their family while out doing circle business? Templars get to stay in contact with *their* families.
It just feels like someone, somewhere in the world would have a problem with the government taking kids away and hiding them from their parents forever and ever.

It depends on the Circle in question, and how rigidly the templars there apply the rules. Typically, an apprentice is not allowed to see his family or leave the tower. An enchanter might -- although it would require them leaving the tower to do so... but that does happen, if there is business that takes them elsewhere (meaning they can finagle the First Enchanter's permission).

Well, not to mention that most families don't want to be associated with their mage children. They're monstrous, and it's a disgrace to have one. The ones like Arlessa Isolde who don't turn them over at the first opportunity are rare.
